Chapter 287: Is This the Intensity of a Metropolis?
"One disaster per day, no minor ones, only major and catastrophic disasters. This is the intensity of our T0 sector, Metropolis."
Facing the seamless, trouble-making intensity of Metropolis, Ma Ma Zhaodi couldn't help but sigh.
And in the video, Superman's figure appeared just then, flying up toward the clouds above—Ma Ma Zhaodi wasn't worried about what happened after he flew into the storm, because if he really was done for, then Metropolis probably wouldn't need to report on the third day anyway.
Unknown cause, unknown background, unknown purpose—in the eyes of all Metropolis residents, this disaster came out of nowhere; the only thing certain was that it didn't look like any gentle, harmless natural phenomenon.
At this very moment, Drake and Camilla sat in their newly rented house in the suburbs, both staring blankly at the black clouds gradually spreading overhead.
"I think the suburbs might not be safe either."
"It's fine. Whether it's the storm's center or the city center, we'll definitely be the last ones to go."
After Superman flew into the storm, everyone prayed.
After the sky changed color, day, dusk, and night had no difference; people could only know how much time had passed by the time displayed on electronic devices—and according to reports, Superman stayed inside for about twenty or thirty hours. Because the duration was too long, there was no complete video of the middle period, only some photos and citizens' oral accounts.
"I heard a huge roar in the sky," stated a Black woman with dreadlocks: "Louder than thunder, and very dense. I felt it was Superman fighting bad guys up there."
"The sky hasn't changed much since then," sighed a middle-aged man in a suit and leather shoes: "At the time, I hoped Superman would win, but when he actually did win, that's when I realized I was happy too soon."
"Anyway, it was just a boom, like a super-giant bomb," guessed a young student holding a book into the microphone: "Maybe comparable to a nuclear explosion, I don't know—anyway, after the explosion, the sky returned to normal. Many building fragments fell from inside the clouds, but they all vanished before hitting the ground, as if evaporated—but those fragments were really huge, and you couldn't tell what material they were made of."
Ma Ma Zhaodi looked at the report; the newspaper finally explained the battle roughly—a female mage named Alazaza used her staff combined with her own massive-range formation to steal Superman's power, and used part of the energy to construct a huge palace of her own above the city.
Superman was almost sucked dry; in the end, he found a chance to shatter Alazaza's staff, otherwise Metropolis would have been done for again.
"I just don't get it," Ma Ma Zhaodi flipped through the report repeatedly: "Where the hell are all these overpowered mechanism monsters coming from? I've heard Superman is weak against magic, but damn, can he really be that weak?"
"And this Alazaza, how have I never heard of her? Is she a famous villain from some comic?"
He thought about it over and over for a long time, but his memory truly held absolutely no information related to this.
"Alright, never mind. At least this isn't some major event from my memory, and the matter was resolved satisfactorily."
Ma Ma Zhaodi exited this news with a confused look, his gaze turning to yesterday's report—logically, since Superman and that woman fought for so long, the time should have already reached the second day. In other words, as soon as Superman finished dealing with Alazaza, Metropolis had another situation arise.
This wasn't Drake and the others' fault at all, Ma Ma Zhaodi thought; if it were me, I'd have run on the second day—if I could run.
He clicked into the third day's report again.
"Terrifying Earth-Stone Monster Approaches Metropolis; Massive Tornado Almost Destroys the City!"
"Great," Ma Ma Zhaodi thought: "Metropolis really has work to do. Did that Sandman from next door come over?"
He clicked the video link attached to the news report again, and finally smiled with relief.
In the wilderness outside Metropolis, a terrifying tornado was advancing toward the city center; it connected heaven and earth, swirling up every stone and soil along its path, leaving flying sand and rolling stones, destroying everything in its wake.
Vast patches of turf and animals were sucked into this terrifying whirlwind; strange lightning and thunder occasionally crackled within this eerie wind.
"Roar!"
A human face made of earth and giant stones appeared at the top of the storm, roaring fiercely at the distant city.
Clearly, this was not a hurricane formed naturally by nature.
So what did the citizens of Metropolis think about this?
"No."
Drake and Camilla stood on the grass, both staring blankly at the distant storm earth-stone giant slowly moving toward them. Every few meters it moved, a huge amount of earth and stone was sucked into its body, making it grow bigger and bigger—and at this very moment, it was already as big as several Godzillas.
After a few seconds of silence, Drake spoke.
"... Camilla?"
"What is it?"
"I want to move."
"Okay."
"To the city center?"
"Okay."
"Book flight tickets now, leave the luggage."
"Okay."
The two ran back into the house at the fastest speed of their lives, quickly grabbed the cash, credit cards, and other valuables in the house, then drove away without looking back, disappearing onto Metropolis's highways.
They left with firm determination, as if having made some kind of resolve.
And at this moment, a flash of bright red finally appeared in the camera's view.
"It's Superman! Viewers! Superman is here to stop that storm monster!"
The reporter in the helicopter cheered into the camera. As a Metropolis native, he was used to being protected by such an omnipotent superhero—the sense of security brought by the God of Men was simply too strong.
After Superman charged into the storm, Ma Ma Zhaodi could see him using every means to fight the giant; the red beams were heat vision, the white wind pressure was ice breath, and the flying gravel was smashed by his fists—and that earth-stone giant was now actually exchanging punches with Superman.
"It has a mind!" Superman dodged the giant's punch in an instant, exclaiming: "I can't kill him! The Stranger!"
Ma Ma Zhaodi paused the video.
"Who is the Stranger again?" He scratched his head, looking at every corner of the screen.
Subway, old man, phone. jpg
My head is so itchy, like it's about to grow a brain.
"Could it be a superhero from the Mystical side?"
Thinking this, Ma Ma Zhaodi spent spiritual power to open his Third Eye—and when he looked at the screen again, he indeed saw a mysterious figure wearing a deep blue cloak appear on the screen.
"No, Superman." The Stranger on the screen shook his head.
"There are no living beings inside; only the souls of the deceased."
