Chapter 32: Give it to me? Can you bear to part with it?
He didn't know whether Zihan was joking, but he hoped what she said was true.
By the time he returned to his room, Liuli had already washed up and was lying on the bed looking at something.
He didn't disturb her, going straight to the bathroom.
What Liuli was looking at was a notebook in which her grandmother had recorded things before she passed; after her grandmother realized her memory was failing, she began writing down what she wanted to remember in that notebook.
Sometimes seeing it was as if she hadn't forgotten those things at all.
As soon as she opened the notebook, the first page had Liuli's name written on it.
Liuli's eyes reddened; she had never taken it out to look before because she didn't dare, just like she didn't dare read the letters her grandmother had written her.
In her grandmother's later years, the world consisted only of Liuli.
She loved eating dragon fruit, cucumber, tomato, and potato.
She most liked eating barbecue.
She didn't like wearing tight clothes or dressing up.
She didn't like studying.
The notebook contained only Liuli's likes and dislikes.
It turned out her grandmother had always known she didn't like studying, which explained why her grandmother never forced her to study and just wanted her to play.
Even though her grandmother knew being first was best, if Liuli wasn't happy, what did being first matter?
Her grandmother wrote Liuli's preferences in the notebook for fear she would forget them.
Turning to the back, Liuli saw what her grandmother had written about Cheng Li and Gu Die.
——Cheng Li is my and Liuli's benefactor; no matter who you forget, you cannot forget him—without the Cheng Li family, there would be no me and Liuli. —
——Thank heaven for letting us meet such a fine child; if Cheng Li and Liuli were together, I wouldn't worry no matter when I died. —
——A few days ago a child said he was Gu Die, Liuli's husband; Liuli never told me anything about this child, so I thought it was fake! Fortunately I didn't get my hopes up for nothing—turns out they really are married; this Xiao Die child is not bad, and I don't expect him to be outstanding, as long as he treats Liuli well, that's enough—don't let her suffer injustice. —
Seeing Gu Die come out of the shower, ready to go to bed, she put the notebook in the drawer of a nearby cabinet.
She blinked, and her tears flowed back in.
"Not sleeping yet?"
Gu Die asked.
"I'm about to sleep."
After answering, Liuli lay down and soon fell asleep.
Gu Die looked at the materials for a while and then fell asleep.
In the morning Gu Die didn't call her either, so she knew he wouldn't, and had set her alarm early.
After washing up, she went downstairs and saw Gu Die waiting for her to eat.
"What about Zihan? Still not up?"
Liuli opened her mouth to ask about Zihan.
"Eat first."
"I'll go call her."
This woman, how could she not have seriously listened to his words?!
"Chu Liuli, sit down and eat."
Gu Die shouted coldly; hearing him call her name, she sat down as if by reflex.
She didn't know why he was so fired up first thing in the morning, as if he'd eaten gunpowder.
She could only obediently eat her meal.
Zihan clearly wanted to go to the company but couldn't get up, and Liuli was also worried sick for her.
As soon as she heard some movement, Liuli turned to look; fortunately Zihan had gotten up, just in time to help ease the awkwardness.
"How come you're both up so early!"
Zihan sat down beside Liuli and asked.
"It's already not early; are you going today?"
Liuli asked, looking forward to Zihan's answer, hoping that if Feng Wei went again, Zihan could help her and argue with Feng Wei.
"Of course……not going."
Zihan had originally wanted to say "of course I'm going," but upon seeing Gu Die's expression, she could only say she wasn't going.
Liuli's mood plummeted to the bottom.
"You really aren't going?"
"Even if I went, there'd be nothing to do!"
"Even if I went, there'd be nothing to do! It would be perfect for the two of us to keep each other company!"
Liuli laughed.
"I actually want to go—look at him!"
Zihan said this in a low voice near Liuli's ear.
Gu Die, seeing this, also knew what she was saying to her.
"What does it matter what he does?"
"That's his company; if he won't let me go, do I dare to go?"
Seeing the two whispering, even Aunt Lin wanted to laugh.
"You're his cousin—are you still afraid of him?"
"I'm certainly afraid—you're the only one in the world who isn't afraid of him, Chu Liuli! Why don't you go talk to him; maybe he'll agree."
"Even if you said it, it wouldn't work; if I said it, it would be even less possible!"
"Are you still eating?"
Gu Die really couldn't help but watch the two of them talking and looking at him, as if they were badmouthing him.
They kept talking for half a day, and yet there's so much slander about Gu Die?
"Alright, ask him—he might just agree!"
Zi Han kept urging Liuli.
"Gu Die, can Zi Han also go to the company?"
Liuli had to ask.
"What do you want her to do?"
Gu Die asked back.
"I haven't even gone to the company to work before; I know nothing—having her along would be better."
"Just tell me what to do; no need for her to go."
"You!" Zi Han said angrily to Gu Die—his refusal was too blunt.
"Just let her go, okay?"
Liuli asked again.
"Okay."
Seeing how eager she was for Zi Han to go, Gu Die had to agree.
Zi Han was stunned—did he really just agree?
Looks like everything requires Liuli to step in.
"Forgetting friends for beauty."
Zi Han muttered a complaint.
"You don't want to go?"
But Gu Die still heard it.
"Want to! Cousin, you're the best!"
Zi Han laughed and coaxed.
"Hurry up and eat."
Liuli said, and then Zi Han started eating.
Liuli ate really fast, finishing in a moment.
"Liuli, are you full?"
Seeing Liuli stop eating, Zi Han asked.
"I'm full."
"Why are you eating so fast?!"
Zi Han asked the question Gu Die had been wanting to ask.
"Is it because you guys eat too slowly?"
Liuli didn't think she ate fast; it's just that Gu Die and Zi Han chew slowly, so of course they eat slower than her.
"How come I never noticed you ate so fast before?"
"That's me—Cheng Li and Bai Xu eat faster than you and Yu Ke, so you wouldn't notice!"
Gu Die, hearing her mention two guys' names in one sentence, lost his appetite.
"What, cousin, are you full too?"
Zi Han asked, confused, but Gu Die ignored her and went out to drive.
"How am I slow?"
Zi Han was even more puzzled.
"If you have time to talk, you should eat fast, or else we'll both be left behind by him."
After hearing Liuli's words, Zi Han started eating big mouthfuls.
She had never eaten like that, wolfing down her food.
Liuli went to the changing room first to change clothes; after she came out, Zi Han finished eating.
"I'm going to change clothes!"
Zi Han rushed into the changing room, hastily changed into a dress and came out—she had never been in such a hurry before, and didn't even pick out the clothes properly.
"Thanks to you, I can finally wear the limited edition!"
Zi Han said to Liuli.
Liuli couldn't care less whether it's a limited edition; she just wants her clothes to be comfortable, price doesn't matter.
"If he weren't my cousin, I would have to marry him!"
"I'll let you have it."
Liuli laughed.
"Let me have it? Are you willing?"
"Why wouldn't I be willing?"
"Women, all say one thing but mean another!"
Zi Han shook his head, grabbed Liuli, and ran to the car where Gu Die had parked.
Both sat in the back seat, talking and laughing; previously, when it was only Liuli and Gu Die, the whole trip was silent, with hardly any words spoken.
Seeing Liuli chatting and laughing with Zi Han all the way in the back, Gu Die didn't know what to feel.
He had thought she was quiet, and he himself was quiet too, but now he sees she's actually quite talkative—why does she say so little to him?
Arriving at the company was no different: Gu Die led the way, with Zi Han and Liuli trailing behind him. Liuli was thrilled—she used to follow Gu Die all by herself, which had been terribly awkward.
This time, with Zi Han along, she felt much more at ease.
"Young Mistress, good morning."
Someone greeted her.
"Good morning." she replied.
Liuli found it strange that no one greeted Gu Die, yet everyone greeted her.
Upon reaching the office, the assistant had already prepared coffee and was waiting for Gu Die.
"You've changed assistants again?"
Zi Han asked.
"What's wrong?"
Changing assistants was routine for him; his assistants were all women, so he switched them often.
"Cousin, you're quite the ladies' man!"
Zi Han said jokingly, and Gu Die instinctively glanced at Liuli.
Liuli showed no reaction, and even laughed along with Zi Han.
"Do you think you two came here to play?"
Gu Die said coldly.
"Or do you actually want to assign us work?"
Zi Han asked.
"It was your own decision to come."
Zi Han didn't want to work; she had just come from the busy barbecue restaurant and hadn't had a chance to have fun yet.
"Xia Zi, take those submitted activity plans and give them to them."
"Yes, Young Master."
The assistant replied.
Zi Han gave Liuli a pleading look; she really didn't want to do anything.
"Zi Han, aren't you feeling unwell? Just sit; I'll take a look."
Liuli gave Zi Han a look, and Zi Han understood.
"Yeah, my head has been hurting since this morning."
"Then you can go back; staying here is pointless."
Gu Die said indifferently.
"Cousin, you don't know how to sympathize at all?"
Zi Han said this as she flopped onto the sofa, acting as if she didn't want to deal with anything.
Gu Die remained silent.
The assistant brought over a stack of documents, and Liuli hurried to take them.
Being idle is still being idle; she might as well do something to avoid boredom, besides, she couldn't spend every day playing at the Gu family's.
Liuli took the documents and placed them on the windowsill table, then began to read them seriously.
When Gu Die glanced at Zi Han still sitting on the sofa, Zi Han sat down opposite Liuli, pretending to read the documents seriously.
"Liuli, why are you listening to him again?"
"I came here to work, after all; if I could, I'd actually like to be his assistant."
Liuli replied; she had come to the company to supervise Gu Die and Feng Wei, otherwise she wouldn't have come at all!
Any job is better than staring at Gu Die's cold face.
"Why would you want to be his assistant? He's so demanding."
True, he's demanding, but the assistant is good-looking with a great figure—any girl can't help but glance twice, especially since Gu Die is a man!
Moreover, the assistant is by his side every day, closest to him; who knows when he might give her a green hat.
And claiming not to be jealous? That's fake!
