Chapter 1106 - 1114: Sorry

~3 min read 550 words

Jane Sampson’s hands were shaking as she held her mobile phone. The kind of sorrow she felt was indescribable.

She had lost it. Whether it was stolen or whatever, it was ultimately her fault for not taking care of the stuff James Black had given her.

Just as Jane tapped the mobile phone screen, a phone call came through.

Coincidentally, the very touch from Jane had answered the call.

Seeing it was James Black’s call, Jane almost wanted to hang up.

Just thinking about how she had lost the gift he gave her made Jane feel so upset that she didn’t know how to face James Black.

"Hello."

Although Jane had answered the call instantly, the delay in her response made James Black think his mobile phone was broken.

"Can you hear me?" James Black asked.

Jane then took a deep breath and responded, "I can hear you."

"Did you purposely pick up and keep quiet?" James Black’s voice was low, "Are you in trouble again?"

Jane pressed her lips together and did not speak.

The excessive silence on the other end made James Black slightly frown. It wasn’t like Jane to not talk back at such times.

"Jane Sampson."

After a moment, James Black called her name softly, "What’s wrong? Who upset you?"

Jane had been holding back, but hearing James Black’s words, the sense of grievance and discomfort in her heart overwhelmed her.

As she began to speak, tears started rolling down her cheeks.

"I lost the lipstick you gave me," Jane said, her voice laced with tears. "It wasn’t intentional. I thought no one would take a used lipstick. Every time I used it, I put it back in the lipstick box."

Jane felt incredibly wronged.

Her entire collection of lipsticks was just sitting there, so why did someone have to steal the one that meant the most to her?

If James Black hadn’t called her just in time, if he hadn’t immediately sensed her mood, Jane thought she might not have cried or felt so wronged.

"Which one?" James Black stood up from the sofa the moment he heard Jane sob, tension gripping him.

Though he often teased Jane for being touchy, she wasn’t usually one to cry.

"It was the very first lipstick you gave me," Jane responded pitifully. "The one that was specially customized."

James Black understood. He knew that Jane always carried that lipstick with her.

Hearing her cry so pitifully, James Black realized she must indeed feel very guilty.

"James Black, I’m sorry, I’m so sorry..." Jane repeated her apologies, then tentatively asked, "Can you please not be mad at me? I didn’t mean to do it."

"Don’t cry." James Black went out to the balcony to catch some cold air to calm down, and then his voice softened significantly, "Are you worried about me being mad at you?"

James Black sighed gently, "Silly, why would I be mad over a lipstick? You already said it wasn’t intentional. It was stolen, so I don’t blame you."

"You yourself said just the other day that I wouldn’t want to scold or hit you, so how could I bear to be mad at you? Huh?" James Black thought probably all his good patience in this life was spent on this girl named Jane Sampson.
