Chapter 1142 - 1150: Major Traffic Accident
Just hadn’t expected that the phone call that went through forty minutes ago would now show as powered off.
He tried calling again, only to receive a notification that it was not in the service area.
Standing in front of the patio window, James Black felt irritable as he glanced down at the bustling street below. The weather in King Town had grown cooler, and while the sunlight streaming in was glaring, it should not have been unbearable.
Yet, James Black couldn’t help but step back irritably and sharply pulled the window curtain closed.
In his mind, he thought that the first thing he would do when Jane Sampson arrived was to lecture her on always charging her mobile phone before leaving the house!
This girl loves to scroll through her mobile phone and play games before sleep. After playing, she never remembers to charge it; she’d just set it down and go to sleep.
She often hurriedly gets up in the morning, and when leaving the house, her mobile phone would still be flashing a red light warning of low battery.
And yet, she still never remembered to charge her power bank and often didn’t even remember to keep the power bank charged.
James turned away from the patio window, sat on the sofa, and noticed a new message notification on WhatsAPP, hoping it was from Jane Sampson.
But when he opened it, James almost dropped his mobile phone.
The new message was a news alert pushed automatically by WhatsAPP.
It was specifically local King Town news.
Eighteen minutes ago, a major traffic accident occurred on the Maple Bridge section of the King-Ship Highway. The cause of the accident was still unclear, but it had already resulted in damage to over thirty cars, three fatalities at the scene, five people seriously injured, and many more with minor injuries. All the injured had been transported to King Town’s First Hospital for emergency treatment.
James’s hands shook as he finished reading the message.
He opened the location sharing that Jane had sent him previously, time-matching, and estimating where she should have been around ten plus minutes ago. No matter how many times he calculated, there was a ninety-five percent probability that Jane’s car had passed through the Maple Bridge section around that time.
Thinking this, James instinctively thought to call Coco Edwards, but as soon as Coco answered, James remembered that Coco was staying in Cloud Province for treatment and hadn’t come to King Town with Jane.
"I can’t contact Jane, do you have the phone number of Jane’s new assistant who came with her to King Town, or the driver’s?" said James, and then added, "It might be that Jane’s mobile phone is out of charge."
"How could that be? She charged it this morning before leaving, and last night Lucy even made sure her power bank was fully charged," Coco shook her head and said, "Maybe she accidentally put her mobile on silent mode or switched it off? Wait a minute, I’ll send you Lucy’s phone number."
After the conversation, Coco hung up the phone.
A few seconds later, Coco sent Lucy’s mobile number to James’s mobile phone.
James called directly, but it showed that the other party’s mobile phone was powered off.
James’s heart sank, and he immediately took his wallet and room card and left the hotel, taking a taxi directly to King Town’s First Hospital. Upon arriving, he rushed into the emergency building and stopped the nurse at the reception desk, blurting out, "Excuse me, among the patients brought in from the Maple Bridge car accident, is there a female patient surnamed Sampson?"
"Yes! Are you one of this patient’s relatives? This female patient is in a critical condition, and the doctors have already issued a critical illness notice to her relatives. She’s in surgery room 2 on the third floor," the nurse quickly replied and then came out from behind, saying, "Follow me, I’ll show you the way so you won’t get lost."
