Chapter 1143 - 1151: Get Up for Me
After she spoke, that nurse urged James Black to follow her forward quickly as the hospital elevator was overcrowded. Since it was just the third floor, the nurse led James Black up the stairs.
They came face-to-face with another nurse descending the stairs. After exchanging a brief greeting, the nurse who was leading James Black asked, "Sister Chen, did the patient make it through? This mister is a relative of that patient, I’m just about to take him upstairs."
The slightly older nurse glanced at James Black, then let out a soft sigh and shook her head, "We did everything we could, but the patient passed away three minutes ago."
The foot that James Black had lifted suddenly felt as heavy as a thousand pounds, hanging in mid-air, unable to descend.
"Gone... what do you mean by gone?" James Black’s voice trembled.
"I’m so sorry, our doctors really did everything they could, but the patient’s injuries were too severe. Despite several rounds of resuscitation, we couldn’t bring the patient back. The patient’s remains should still be in the surgery room. Hurry upstairs and say your last goodbyes to your loved one." After the nurse finished speaking, she added a word of comfort, "Condolences."
"It can’t be!" James Black roared lowly and bolted past the two nurses, sprinting upstairs.
Third floor surgery room 2.
Third floor surgery room 2.
James Black kept repeating this to himself as if the path underfoot was not really a path at all.
It was as though he was on the roiling waves, nearly capsizing him.
It was easy to find Operation Room Two on the third floor; it was right at the end of the corridor on the left.
James Black ran there as fast as he could. The door to Operation Room Two was open, and two caregivers wheeled out a sickbed from inside, covering the person from head to toe with a white cloth.
Such was the way they bid farewell to this person’s life.
Beside the bed, there were a few unfamiliar faces — men and women, old and young — wailing loudly.
James Black stood in front, blocking the caregivers’ way. His eyes were bloodshot, the hands hanging by his sides slightly trembling.
"No, it can’t be." James Black slowly approached the bed, unwilling to believe, afraid to believe, refusing to believe that the person lying on the bed was his dearest.
She had clearly said that when he arrived in King Town, she wanted him to take her to eat spicy hotpot.
And her favorite cold drinks.
Ice cream would do as well.
"I command you, get up!" James Black’s hand rested on the bed, never daring to lift the white cloth that covered her face.
"You don’t have my permission to go anywhere! Not even underground!" James Black’s voice was hoarse. "As long as you get up, whatever you want to eat, I’ll buy it for you, I’ll take you there, hotpot, ice cream, cold drinks, or potato chips, anything is fine, just get up, and I’ll take you right now."
James Black thought, he really could compromise on anything.
No problem, whatever she wanted to eat, he’d take her.
If she ate too much and got a bellyache, he’d buy her medicine, he’d rub her belly.
If she got sick, he’d take care of her, he’d be by her side.
Whatever she wanted, he was willing to place it into her hands.
Anything.
Only if she would just lift the white cloth herself, sit up, give him a smile, and tell him she was just scaring him, that would be enough.
He definitely wouldn’t be angry.
He definitely wouldn’t blame her.
"The things you wanted from me, I haven’t given to you yet. The things I wanted from you, you haven’t given to me yet." There was an indescribable pain in James Black’s heart. "You little swindler, you clearly promised to have a child for me. You swindler, I haven’t agreed yet, and you’re thinking of leaving my side, of going somewhere else?"
