Chapter 1223 - 1231 Acting Fascinated
After a night of spring breeze, it had halved before it gradually calmed down and returned to silence.
Because there were still matters to attend to today, James had set an alarm, but probably because he was preoccupied with thoughts, he woke up before it even rang.
Fearing that the alarm would disturb Jane when it went off, James canceled it ahead of time.
He lay back down and cuddled his petite wife in his arms for a while before he planned to get up, but he hadn’t expected Jane to hold onto him so tightly even in her sleep.
Her hands were tightly wrapped around his waist, and her small face was almost buried in his chest as she slept soundly.
So if James wanted to get up, he would have to pry her hands open.
James bent down and kissed Jane’s forehead, still not awake, and then started gently tugging at her hands.
But with this tug, her grip tightened even more.
James then chuckled softly, "Woken up and still pretending to sleep? Let go, I need to get up."
"Don’t," Jane’s voice lazily drifted out.
There was no point in pretending anymore after being caught, so she simply decided to act spoilt.
"Are you leaving?" Jane asked, her voice muffled as she looked up at James.
"Yes, didn’t I tell you about the mission? I need to go back for a bit," James soothed her, rubbing her head gently. "It’s still early, you go on back to sleep."
Instead, Jane flipped over like a koala, pressing her entire body on top of James, made a sound and then shook her head.
Then in a tender voice she began, "The ancients do not deceive me; since ancient times, young men have been fickle. Last night, you were still calling me darling heart and little darling. It’s not even dawn yet, and you haven’t left my side, yet you flip your attitude so heartlessly, thinking to despise me."
Darling?
Little darling?
The corners of James’s mouth twitched imperceptibly.
He had never called Jane such cheesy names in his moments of affection; he was too reserved, and even in moments of affection, he barely spoke.
At most, he would call her name, coaxing her to call his.
When had he ever called her darling or little darling?
"Lost in your acting?" James tapped on the back of her head lying on top of him, remembering that Jane was currently filming a costume drama.
"Hmph!" Jane huffed unhappily.
James laughed softly, lifted the woman buried in his chest a bit up, then rolled over and pinned her beneath him, hands propping next to her ears, looking down at her.
"After all this, you just don’t want me to leave," James whispered, lightly touching Jane’s lips with his.
Jane blinked, her ears reddened, her gaze flitted away, "Maybe a little bit."
Still pretending it’s just a little?
"Jane Sampson, it seems I really need to find time to fix your bad habit of saying one thing and meaning another," James scoffed, then rolled to the side and sat up, "You go back to sleep, I’ll clean up and get ready to leave when it’s time."
Jane sneakily rubbed her waist to alleviate the soreness, and after a while, she followed him down to help James pack up his few belongings.
After James finished washing up and came out, he saw that Jane had already done all that was left for him, and since there was still time before he had to leave, he simply pulled Jane to the sofa, placed her on top of himself, and let Jane continue being spoiled in his embrace.
