Chapter 1232 - 1240: Who Cannot Tolerate
However, ever since the case was handed over to the police, it has been conducted in secret to protect Jane Sampson and James Black, which is why even the sentencing took place without the presence of outsiders.
But due to Charlotte Miller’s celebrity status, the media were bound to find out about her imprisonment.
"Ah?" Jane Sampson sounded lost as she let out a puzzled "ah."
Peter Gingery had only briefly mentioned to her before that Charlotte Miller’s guilt had been confirmed and the case was handed over to the police; afterwards, Jane stopped following up on it. Since she had been paying attention, she noticed that Charlotte’s WhatsApp had not been active ever since, and she heard from some people in the circle that Charlotte had been taken away by the police.
Jane was surprised that a sentence had been reached so swiftly—five years and three months, which was really not light. Charlotte was no longer young; once she was released from prison after five years, she would be just over thirty. The industry was already cruel to those from the past, let alone to a female artist tainted with scandal.
Yet Jane was merely surprised by this and didn’t feel any pity for Charlotte. Even if Jane was usually compassionate, Charlotte’s actions this time had truly crossed Jane’s bottom line.
On top of wanting to harm her, Charlotte had deluded herself into thinking she could take her James.
Intolerable.
Thinking of James...
Jane glanced at Old Master Black and tentatively asked, "Grandfather, James has been out for tasks for quite a long time this trip, hasn’t he?"
Upon hearing this, Old Master Black chuckled. He put down his mobile phone on the tabletop and teased Jane, "Missing him?"
Jane shook her head emphatically, "Not at all, not in the least."
Peter Gingery, sitting on the second floor eating a lollipop, cut in, "You’re just being dishonest with yourself."
Jane glared fiercely at Peter, "Not even candy can keep your mouth shut!"
James’s mission should be ending soon; he’ll likely be back in two days. Wait for him at home," Old Master Black stated. "You should have some time to rest after finishing this drama, right?"
"Yes, but in two days, I have to attend a film festival. The war movie I acted in before seems to have been shortlisted, and the director called me personally to invite me to attend the festival together." Jane’s role in that movie wasn’t prominent since she was a newcomer at the time.
Normally, such events would not fall to her as part of the film crew, but now that she had her own studio and some networking, people have caught on to her connection with the Black Family. Even those who hadn’t figured out her connection to the Black Family could tell she had ties with Swan Goose Entertainment.
So, mostly, the director probably considered her connections when deciding to invite her to make an appearance.
"No worries, this time James should have several days of rest when he returns. Aside from the work you had previously arranged, you should keep the rest of the time free to spend more time with him," Old Master Black mused. "James’s mission this time was tough, and there was a bit of a mishap in between."
Seeing Jane suddenly grow tense, Old Master Black quickly added, "He wasn’t injured, just a bit overly stressed mentally, which is why he was given a few days to return home and unwind."
Old Master Black sighed, "Perhaps it was the way I educated him when he was young. I always treated him as an adult, so his personality, in some aspects, is lacking. You’re his wife, and he’s at ease when he’s together with you. So spend more time with him."
