Chapter 1236 - 1244: Change Driver
Jane Sampson was stiff and on edge the entire evening, fearing that a moment’s laziness, a drooping shoulder caught resting for a while, would be captured by some camera and promptly turned into ammunition for online slander.
After all, Jane really has the kind of constitution that trends easily, and she’s prone to attracting trolls.
There was water on the table, but to avoid any trouble, she decided it was best not to drink if she could help it.
Luckily, after staying tense all night, there was some payoff for the film crew: Jane went up on stage with them twice to receive awards, both of moderate significance. The director spent the whole night cheerfully chatting with people.
It was only when the host announced the conclusion of the event that Jane truly breathed a sigh of relief.
After the evening party, many artists naturally sought out familiar faces for group photos. Jane was no exception and found Shirley Young and a few old friends to take some photos as a memento. As she was about to leave, she saw Gwendolyn Young approaching her.
Gwendolyn’s request to take a photo with her left Jane feeling flattered.
"Last time, I got our group photo developed and put it in my album," Jane wasn’t just flattering Gwendolyn; she truly had done this. When she went back to Capital Province, she had Coco get it developed for her, but she kept it at the Black Residence.
Gwendolyn naturally took Jane’s hand as they posed, making a scissor hand gesture at the mobile phone’s lens. After Shirley said they were done, they thanked each other. Gwendolyn took a look and said, "Beautiful. Leave me your Email, and I’ll send a copy of the photo to your inbox later."
"Sure, thank you, Teacher Yang." Jane quickly borrowed some paper and a pen from an attendant and wrote down her email for Gwendolyn, who solemnly put the paper into her purse and waved goodbye to Jane.
Having spent such a long time there, Jane was surprised she hadn’t seen Jillian Carter at all.
After saying goodbye to Shirley and the others, Jane finally left the conference venue. Lucy was waiting for her outside, and after meeting up, they headed to the parking lot through a special passageway.
"By the way, the driver who brought us here had to leave due to a sudden errand, and Sister Tin has sent another driver. Oh, and I have to go to the company for a bit later. Sister Tin said she has something for me, so after I drop you off in the car, I won’t be coming home with you; I’ll go straight to the company," Lucy said, then turned to Jane, "Sister Jane, is that alright?"
Jane was always easy-going, and since Lucy had official business, she wouldn’t object.
"It’s a hassle for you to go to the company this late. You take a taxi there, and after you finish the busy work, take a taxi home from the studio. Let the studio reimburse you. When you’re going back alone, be very careful. Or if there’s still a driver available, have them take you home," Jane nodded.
"Will do," Lucy grinned like a bandit.
As they chatted, they arrived at the parking lot. Lucy was about to call out to Jane as she opened the co-pilot seat door when she turned to see Jane swiftly opening the rear seat door and slipping in.
Lucy looked bemusedly at the person in the driver’s seat, quietly closed the co-pilot door, and watched Jane roll down the window to say goodbye. Lucy waved back, her face flushed with embarrassment.
