Chapter 1239 - 1247: You Like Being At
James Black’s movement to start the car halted, and he turned his head to look at Jane Sampson.
"Well, it sounds like you’re a little regretful about something that didn’t happen." James started the car and fastened his seatbelt, "You like it in the car?"
Jane turned her head to look at James, blinked her eyes, and wore a face of innocence and confusion, "What are you talking about? I don’t understand what you mean?"
Jane stretched out her hand and poked James’s arm, speaking in a coquettish voice, "What I meant was, I almost suffocated from your kiss, and you thought I meant something else?"
After she said that, her face showed shock, "Could it be that you thought I was going to say..."
After the shock, little hands covered her small face, "I can’t believe you’re such an improper person, James Black! Old rascal!"
The corners of James Black’s mouth twitched fiercely.
What drama.
"Jane Sampson, this is your last warning, don’t use the word ’old’ with me, I’m not as old as you say." James spoke before he finally started driving back to the Black Residence.
James was driving, and Jane was staring at him seriously the whole time, not sure what she was thinking, occasionally smiling goofily by herself.
No matter how tempered James was, her silly smile made his irritation vanish.
Once the car steadied in the courtyard, James couldn’t help but raise his hand to gently brush Jane’s eyelashes as he got out, "If you’ve seen enough, get out of the car."
"Okay~" Jane agreed compliantly, opened the car door, and got out first.
James locked the car and turned around to look for Jane, expecting her to be waiting where she was, but with a turn of his head, the courtyard was empty. It turned out she had already run into the house happily, hugging the Great General and laughing merrily as they played.
James: ...
There was really a moment when he doubted whether Jane’s happiness was all just an act.
As soon as she got out of the car, she ran faster than a rabbit.
"Grandfather, why haven’t you gone to rest yet?" James entered and saw Old Master Black and Brooke Black still up and spoke, "It’s getting late."
"We’ve been waiting for you to come back for a late-night snack. It’s getting chilly, and it’s good to have some hot soup before bed," Brooke explained.
Over there, upon hearing about food, Jane’s ears moved slightly, and she immediately hugged the Great General and dashed into the kitchen.
Old Master Black was the first to notice Jane’s little action and couldn’t help but laugh, "That lass is as crazy as she was when she was a child, not a bit changed."
James softly curled the corner of his mouth.
How could she not have changed a bit?
She had clearly become even more so.
After a while in the kitchen, Jane came out with a bowl of soup in her hand, calling out to the others still standing there, "Aunt prepared cordyceps corn soup for us tonight, it smells incredibly good. Oh, why haven’t I seen uncle-in-law? Is he in the study? Call him out; it’s time to eat!"
"He went out for socializing tonight and drank a bit too much when he got back, and he’s already gone to bed. No need to call him," Brooke explained.
Upon hearing this, Jane quickly said to the Great General wagging its tail beside her, "Did you hear that? Uncle-in-law is asleep; don’t bark or make loud noises."
The nanny served the remaining few bowls of soup, and James sat directly next to Jane.
You could say he did it very naturally; after James sat down, Jane used her soup scoop to transfer all the chicken meat from her bowl into James’s bowl, and after moving it over as if she had just remembered something, looked up cautiously at James.
