Chapter 2255 - 2264: Not Sore

~4 min read 632 words

James Black didn’t chase after her or call out to her; he just maintained his pace and continued running over there, though his eyes never left her figure.

When fast, he was like the wind.

When he stopped, he was gasping like a dog.

The person in front of him would occasionally glance back to check on him, then look at him with a proud and smug expression.

She even provocatively made a gesture with her pinky finger, mocking him for falling behind.

James Black thought to himself, later, she’ll be the one crying.

Jane Sampson ran two laps before plopping down onto the grass, panting and waiting for James Black. She was so exhausted that her face and eyes were almost darkened.

When James Black reached her, she still hadn’t caught her breath.

"Get up." James Black extended his hand and pulled her up from the ground, "The ground’s cold in this weather, and you don’t feel the chill at all."

"I’m tired." Jane Sampson leaned on James Black, whining, "Can I skip tomorrow? I’m both sleepy and tired now."

"No way." James Black took her hand and led her out of the residential community to a familiar breakfast café.

As soon as Jane Sampson entered, she found the most inconspicuous corner to sit in. It was crowded in the early morning, so she was mindful of her appearance and refrained from sprawling out on the table.

When James Black brought over the breakfast, Jane Sampson took her share, puffing her cheeks and blowing on the slightly hot peanut soup while staring at James Black.

"When are you returning to the guard team?" Jane Sampson suddenly asked James Black.

"In a few days," James Black replied, knowing what Jane was thinking, he added, "Sister Bell recently gave you vacation time. During your break, you’ll stay with me at the guard team. Every morning, three laps, I’ll personally supervise you."

Jane Sampson’s lips twitched ever so slightly.

Haha.

Thanks a lot, hardworking daddy Black!

After breakfast, the two headed straight home.

James Black intended to take Jane Sampson shopping, but she didn’t move from her spot on the sofa.

With her body bent, she sat there massaging her calves, shaking her head, "No, I just want to go back to sleep."

After speaking, she glanced at James Black’s legs and asked him, "Don’t your feet get sore from running like that every day?"

"Not sore." James Black glanced at Jane Sampson, ignoring her pleading gaze for a massage, completely pretending not to see it and walked away.

Jane Sampson watched James Black enter the study and sighed quietly.

From the moment she finished breakfast and stood up again, her legs started to ache. By now, the soreness was so intense she didn’t even want to move. Jane figured it was surely because she hadn’t exercised in so long.

She’s both a homebody and lazy, without the need to exercise and lose weight like others, which meant she barely moved apart from filming every day.

This morning, she only ran two laps, each one fully 800 meters, making two laps exactly 1,600 meters.

Jane Sampson clutched her small chest, lying flat on the sofa like a corpse.

At first, Jane Sampson was just softly whining to herself.

But as she waited in vain for James Black to come out, her whining grew considerably louder.

Jane thought, if James heard and knew she was uncomfortable, he would eventually come out, and when he did, she planned to ask him to massage her legs to make her feel better.

But little did she know, after whining for several minutes, the person in the study seemed deaf, silently staying put without a sound, let alone coming out to look at her or even offer a greeting.
