Chapter 602 - 610: Uselessness of Bone Gas

~4 min read 639 words

James Black nodded and gave a grunt of affirmation.

Jane Sampson’s heart gave a yelp of surprise, "This guy’s acting weird! He’s not asking me to stay! He’s not dragging me along?"

"Oh, I also picked up some snacks for you at my dormitory today," James’s tone was a bit indifferent, sounding almost like an afterthought.

However, the figure that had slightly turned away clearly shifted back just a bit, and that someone’s eyes practically spelled out, "What did you buy?"

Jane Sampson was definitely someone who couldn’t stay focused even when angry, and her irritability was never single-minded.

"I think I grabbed a pack of Alps candy, seems like there was also a pack of marshmallows, two bags of potato chips, one bag of broad beans..." Everything he mentioned came from Peter Gingery’s private stash.

Jane had already turned her whole body back around without realizing it.

Jane felt those snacks had to be James’s way of apologizing, surely something he bought especially for her.

So, would it not be a bit unfair to herself if she didn’t go and eat them?

But if she let herself be easily appeased by some food, wouldn’t that make her seem particularly spineless and easy to please?

After tormenting herself for nearly one minute, Jane decided that she had never had much backbone when it came to James, so it didn’t matter if it was gone.

However, she still had to put up a front.

"It’s not great to leave so many red berries in the fridge, and I’ve promised them that I would make red berry jam, so since I’m a person of integrity, I’ll go to yours first and make the red berry jam before I come back." Jane felt this excuse was perfectly reasonable.

James Black didn’t blow Jane Sampson’s cover, deciding to coax her back home first and talk later.

On their way back, Jane just remembered she forgot to ask James to prepare white sugar, but fortunately, the guardian team’s convenience store had some in stock.

Upon entering, James Black, carrying about twenty pounds of white sugar, walked ahead, while Jane Sampson followed leisurely behind him into the house.

After changing shoes, James took the stuff and went to the kitchen; Jane’s eyes scoured the living room, then she spotted a bag resembling a snack stash on the TV cabinet.

She rushed over, lifted the bag, and sure enough, it was the very snacks James had mentioned, which meant he wasn’t scamming her.

Jane looked towards the kitchen, quickly opened a lollipop package, and while James wasn’t looking, she snuck one in.

But eating lollipops is something you simply can’t hide, so after James made a brief trip to and from the kitchen and came back out, there sat Jane on the sofa, feet propped up, cheeks bulging with unmistakable roundness. James felt it wasn’t surprising in the least.

This was indeed something Jane Sampson would do.

Hearing James’s footsteps, Jane turned her head, squinted her eyes, and gave him a smile.

Candy sweetens the mood.

Jane stood up and said, "I’m off to the kitchen for a bit."

After saying this, she hummed a tune and headed into the kitchen. When she reached the kitchen doorway, she called out to James to come and help her.

It wasn’t until they were in the kitchen that James learned to never underestimate a woman adept at expanding the slightest advantage into a full-blown operation.

Jane had him running around while she herself stood to the side, popping washed red berries into her mouth nonstop. Whenever he looked her way, Jane would swiftly place a hand on her lower back, rub it, press down, or mutter, "So tired."

By the time an entire pot of red berry jam was ready, James had also learned how to make it.
