Chapter 623 - 631: The Nose Doesn’t Work Well

~4 min read 637 words

Regarding James Black’s protest, Jane Sampson did not agree.

She muttered quietly, "If I didn’t have any patience, you would have become a widower long ago!"

Although her voice was soft, James Black heard every single word. Seeing him cast a glance at her, Jane quickly grabbed a backrest pillow and covered her face with it, continuing to talk back, "No, a widower."

"Ha," James Black scoffed coldly, apparently, she still had her nerve, thinking this would make her back down.

Was this confirmation that he indeed wasn’t angry, so her courage grew even more?

Hearing Gary Black’s scoff, Jane Sampson removed the pillow from her face, and then said, "You said it, you weren’t angry, so, you can’t bring up the past."

After saying that, Jane Sampson sat up and added, "Anything that happened more than a minute ago counts as the past."

"Just now I said I wasn’t angry, doesn’t mean I’m not angry now." James Black pulled the woman into his arms, then lifted her up onto his lap so Jane was face-to-face with him, "When you played the turtle game, why weren’t you afraid I would get angry? When you wrote your 1,000-word self-criticism, why didn’t I see you afraid then?"

After a pause, James Black’s lips curled into a sly smile, "Just now you were so efficient in locking me out, weren’t you afraid I’d get angry then?"

Jane Sampson blinked and quietly gazed at him.

One second...

Two seconds...

Three seconds...

"James Black, I was wrong," Jane Sampson hurriedly admitted her mistake, then buried her face against his chest, her tone immensely sincere, "I really, really am sorry! It wasn’t on purpose that I locked you out just now, I just couldn’t control my hand for a moment."

Her apology, as always, was perfunctory.

James’s voice was slightly stern, "If you can’t control yourself, then chop it off."

The woman in his arms shuddered, and the next second, the face that had been nestled in his chest was raised. She glared at him indignantly, her voice soft, "With me being this cute, could you really bear it?"

"Cute I haven’t noticed, annoying I see a little," James Black sneered, "Don’t think that by acting cute you can just get past old issues."

"..." Jane Sampson once again proved with her actions that flattery was indeed useless against a man impervious to both persuasion and pressure.

Jane Sampson pouted and reached out towards James, "Then give me back the turtle gift, I’ll take it back, and we’ll pretend this never happened. The self-criticism report, I’ll rewrite it, and we’ll gloss over the part where I locked you out, okay?"

After speaking, Jane’s lips twitched, "I’ve never seen anyone as petty as you. Over such a trivial matter, you actually chased me from the guard team."

"I was in the city for a meeting this afternoon; it didn’t end until 8:30. It was very late, and I had a bit to drink, so I had someone drop me off downstairs," James Black explained that it wasn’t specifically for her trivial matter that he had come out.

"You drank?" Jane Sampson raised her head and sniffed around his face, "You’re lying; I can’t smell any alcohol."

"Your nose doesn’t work well," James Black said indifferently.

I really want to slap this perfectly serious but nonsense-talking handsome face.

"What I just said, will that work? Give me an answer," Jane Sampson didn’t continue to argue with James Black about whether he had drunk or not. Since she didn’t smell it, she would take it as James Black’s fibbing. This guy had specially come back to catch her and give her a lesson.

James Black arched an eyebrow, "The turtle’s been thrown away already, can’t give it back. As for the matter, let’s consider it done."
