Chapter 628 - 636: It’s Not a Claw

~4 min read 606 words

After exiting the residential community, Jane Sampson, who had been sitting obediently in the co-pilot seat, took off her mask, breathed out twice, and rummaged through her purse. She took out the lemon honey water that had been chilling in the refrigerator since last night and twisted open the cap to take a couple of sips.

They had just reached a traffic light intersection when James Black stopped the car. Jane turned her head to see James was staring at the bottle in her hand. She glanced at the bottle, then casually asked, "Want some?"

Jane really had just asked out of courtesy, thinking James wouldn’t like such a sweet and sour beverage, but to her surprise, he nodded.

Jane was stunned.

Well, whatever.

She had to bite the bullet and go through with the offer she made.

After hesitating for two seconds, Jane handed the bottle over. She had intended to feed him a couple of sips while he was driving, but James took the bottle from her hand, opened the straw head, and began to drink with his head thrown back.

Jane’s cup was transparent, so she saw with wide eyes as James guzzled the water from her cup in one go, not leaving a drop behind.

Not. A. Single. Drop.

After finishing, James even tilted the bottle to make sure it was empty, then passed the empty bottle back to her.

"James Black, you did that on purpose." Jane refused to reach out for the empty bottle, furious, glaring at James with an accusing tone in her voice.

"Yes," James admitted. Seeing Jane wouldn’t take it, he tossed the empty bottle into the car backseat and then took a bottle of mineral water from next to him and offered it to Jane.

Jane still wouldn’t take it, pouting with a bitter face at him, visibly unhappy.

The light turned green, and James stuffed the bottle of mineral water into Jane’s hand and resumed driving without delay.

Jane huffed, turned her head away, this guy—Did he need to pick on her this early in the morning to be happy?

James knew Jane was upset, but seeing her huffing and puffing, he couldn’t help but curl the corner of his mouth before speaking, "Your period is in a few days, are you sure you want to drink something so cold so early in the morning?"

Only when James mentioned it did Jane remember that her period was indeed due in the next few days.

However, she never really felt any symptoms before her menstruation and sometimes would forget about the timing herself.

"You got a freebie!" Jane grumbled, then turned her head to glance at James again. Her gaze fell on James Black’s stomach and after thinking for a moment, she added, "I just took it out of the fridge, and you’ve finished it all in one go. Doesn’t your stomach feel cold?"

"Why did you drink it all at once?" Jane questioned, "You could have taken it to the guard team to drink!"

After speaking, Jane reached out and lightly tapped James Black’s belly with her fingertips.

"Keep your claws to yourself!" James chided in a low voice, Jane’s fingers soft as they poked his belly, making his lower abdomen tighten.

Really, she didn’t know how to behave first thing in the morning.

Startled by James’s rebuke, Jane withdrew her hand swiftly. After pulling back, she retorted unhappily, "They’re not claws! Yours are the claws!"

James merely snorted and said no more.

There was a traffic jam on the road, and more than an hour later, the car finally arrived at the airport’s doorway.
