Chapter 640 - 648: Don’t

~3 min read 596 words

James Black accepted the friend request, and the next second, Jane Sampson’s video call came through.

James answered, and the mobile phone screen dimmed for two seconds; after a while, Jane’s enlarged face appeared. It looked like she was having trouble with her phone, totally oblivious to the fact that the video had connected.

"Jane Sampson." James called her out through the phone.

Then Jane exclaimed, "It’s connected? My phone just froze, it was all black."

After mumbling that, Jane quickly made a big, radiant smile at the lens, pinching her phone in one hand, then scooted over to the sofa. With the other hand, she hooked the lollipop she had thrown on the sofa and held it up to the phone to show him.

Grinning with bared teeth, "James, look, I haven’t eaten it! It’s still here in good condition."

Such an acknowledgment of defeat, was rather spineless indeed.

James Black frowned upon seeing the rainbow wave lollipop that was so big it was covering Jane’s face on the mobile phone screen; his expression was full of distaste, "Put that away."

"Should I put it in my suitcase to bring back for you?" Jane obediently set the wafer candy back on the sofa. The candy wasn’t placed squarely, toppled over, but Jane didn’t notice and sat down right on it. While talking to James, she said, "I’ll bring it back for you to eat!"

James glanced at the candy underneath someone’s behind and tugged the corner of his mouth, chuckling softly. Seeing her smile so gleefully, was she actually waiting for him to say thank you?

"What were you eating while you were on the phone with me just now?" James hadn’t forgotten the crunching noises while she was talking on the phone, indicating she was definitely munching on something.

"The lollipop you bought for me! The milk-flavored one!" Jane answered promptly, then even fished out the empty wrapper from the trash can to show James, clearly worried that he wouldn’t believe her without proof.

"Hmm." James looked much pleased.

But then, he realized something else.

So, had this woman been deliberately trying to annoy him just now?

Did she get scared after angering him fiercely, and hearing about the 10,000-word self-criticism, she quickly called to explain?

Really impressive.

"I’ve explained everything, you’re not angry anymore, right?" Jane shifted her seat, then suddenly heard a crack. She paused her movement with the phone and slowly looked down.

A few seconds later.

"Ah!!" Jane’s shriek came through the phone, "It’s broken! It’s broken! James, my lollipop is broken!"

Such shock and astonishment in her voice couldn’t be faked.

James could even discern the sorrow in Jane’s tone.

With annoyance, Jane ran a hand through her hair, then looked back at James in the phone, her voice soft, "So, it’s broken, do you still want it?"

"No," James replied without hesitation, he wouldn’t want it even if it were whole.

"Oh." Jane pursed her lips, her gaze lingering on the candy now broken into several pieces. She then let out a long sigh and said, "Then I’m going to hang up, I have to get up early to do my makeup tomorrow morning."

"Mm," James replied indifferently, waiting a few seconds until Jane hung up the video call first before he put down his phone.

Just thinking of her expression just then made James laugh softly, "Really silly."

After hanging up the phone, Jane didn’t go to take a bath right away. Instead, she took a photo of the broken lollipop and posted it to her Moments.
