Chapter 857 - 865 Quite Smoothly

~4 min read 649 words

"We, the Black Family, are known for protecting our own, and that’s a bad trait inherited down the line. Just wait and see, we won’t have to lift a finger, and that Amber Edwards will get what’s coming to her,"

Having said that, Aunt Black settled herself contently with her legs crossed, "But James Black has come to his senses recently, huh, sending gifts to his wife and even celebrating Valentine’s Day with her. Pretty romantic."

Of all these things, Jane Sampson was completely unaware.

After returning home, she promptly took off the hairpin from her hair and stored it back inside the drawer.

It was one thing to be outside, but once back home and letting her guard down, she would relax and become prone to carelessly damaging her stuff.

Thinking about the role she was likely to miss out on, Jane lay half-reclined in the bed and couldn’t help but sigh softly.

If only she had known, she should have accepted the part of the female lead in that drama right from the start.

Now, it was a situation of nothing gained at both ends -- like scrambling an egg only to find the chicken has flown the coop.

However, thinking of Sister Tin’s confidence, Jane suddenly perked up again; Sister Tin didn’t seem worried at all about Amber Edwards’ threats to ban her.

That meant Sister Tin had her own ways of dealing with it.

Just as Jane was agonizing over which takeaway to order at noon, her mobile phone in the purse suddenly rang.

She picked it up to see it was James Black; Jane cleared her throat and quickly answered the call.

"James Black!" Though she had been intent on keeping her cool, as soon as she picked up the phone, Jane’s voice could not hide her happiness, "Have you been missing me terribly after not seeing me all morning?"

Otherwise, why would he suddenly be making a call out of the blue?

He must be missing her.

Hearing Jane’s voice on the phone devoid of any hint of unhappiness made James furrow his eyebrows.

He had actually been waiting for her call all morning, thinking that after she got home, she would complain to him about being bullied earlier.

To his surprise, he waited and waited, and now it was noon, yet there was still no call from Jane.

She was not the same as the person he had expected to pout and complain to him with mock petulance.

"How did the audition go this morning?" James tentatively asked.

But when he heard Jane’s reply, his heart sank.

The woman’s voice on the phone was cheerful, laughing as she spoke, "I performed normally, but this morning there were many strong competitors at the audition, basically all of them were my seniors, so I think the likelihood of me being picked is low. But that’s okay, Sister Tin told me some other good news, so even if I don’t get selected, I don’t mind."

Little swindler.

Not a single word was true from beginning to end.

James cursed Jane in his heart, yet he didn’t have the heart to expose her disguise.

Even though she was bullied and wronged, she pretended as if nothing had happened and chatted with him cheerfully.

Being disingenuous was one thing, but her acting skills were twice as good as those of any veteran actor.

As long as Jane set her mind to it, she could easily fool anyone with her disguise and concealment.

If he wasn’t already aware of all these matters, James would have certainly believed Jane’s words.

No wonder in the past years, he was fooled by her completely, always mistaking a little fox for a little white rabbit.

"Wait for the weekend, I’ll take you shopping," James found himself wanting to soothe the deceptive young wife at home, so these words came out without thinking.
