Chapter 892 - 900: Really Took a Break from School

~4 min read 643 words

"Bright Sampton, just calm down for a moment and tell me, what exactly are you arguing with dad about?" Jane Sampson tugged at Bright Sampton’s sleeve. This was the first time she had seen Bright Sampton lose his temper like this, his whole demeanor resembling an enraged lion.

"Jane, Bright has gone crazy. He had perfectly good books to study, but he’s gone and asked school for a leave of absence, saying something about wanting to play games. He even mentioned joining some company’s team." Mother Sampton hurried over, her face full of worry, and said, "You quickly talk some sense into him, Bright listens to you the most. He’s always listened to you since he was little. You need to talk to him right away."

"I think he’s just restless!" Father Sampton cursed angrily, "If you dare go and play those games, don’t you ever come back to this house! Starting tonight, I won’t give you one cent!"

Jane Sampson glanced at Father Sampton and then turned to Bright Sampton, "Let’s go out to the courtyard and talk."

Bright Sampton nodded his agreement, his expression had indeed softened quite a bit.

Once they were out in the courtyard, Bright Sampton was the first to speak, "Weren’t you at your brother-in-law’s guard team last night? Did mom call you? Or did Julie Sampton call you to come out from the guard team especially?"

"How did you know I went to the guard team?" Jane Sampson asked.

"Brother Peter Gingery told me," Bright Sampton replied.

"Let’s not talk about me, let’s talk about you," Jane Sampson said, waving her hand dismissively. She looked at Bright Sampton with a serious tone and asked, "Is what mom said true? Did you really take a break from school?"

"Yeah," Bright Sampton nodded. "Sister, don’t try to persuade me. I’m an adult, and I know what I’m doing, what I want to do."

Seeing Jane Sampson’s concerned gaze, Bright Sampton continued, "Sister, I also have things I want to do, things I want to strive for and try hard to attempt. I assure you, I’m not acting on impulse. This is a decision I’ve made after careful consideration."

Seeing that Jane Sampson still hadn’t spoken, Bright Sampton placed his hands on her shoulders, "Sister, don’t look at me like that. Say something. You know me best. Didn’t you tell me this when I was younger? A person should have their own opinions, learn to make decisions for their own life. As long as a decision isn’t made impulsively, and as long as it is a goal you have set for yourself, a dream you wish to pursue, it’s worth trying."

It could be said that Bright Sampton had learned more principles from Jane Sampson than he had ever learned at home.

Bright Sampton playfully shook Jane Sampson’s arm, "Sister, are you saying that you think e-sports is an irresponsible occupation, just like what dad and mom think?"

"I didn’t say that." Jane Sampson shook her head. "Regardless, you shouldn’t have argued with dad like that."

"I wanted to talk things out calmly, but he is so stubborn. As soon as I open my mouth, he calls me irresponsible; as soon as I shut it, he accuses me of lacking ambition. Julie adds fuel to the fire with her nasty comments about idleness leading to ruin. They don’t hear a single word I say." Bright Sampton scoffed, "As soon as they heard I took a leave from school, every word I say is wrong. They refuse to listen, as though my words would soil their ears."

"Mom mentioned you even found a company?" Jane Sampson asked.

"I’ve even signed the contract," Bright Sampton confessed very honestly.

"You really are..." Jane Sampson raised her hand and lightly hit Bright Sampton’s arm, "now you’ve learned to act first and report later."
