Chapter 918 - 926 A Pain in the Neck

~4 min read 647 words

"Hey, watch as Brother sings a couple of songs for you," Old Watson said.

"This wouldn’t be the result of dealing with the dead all day, driving him insane, would it?" said Yvette Quick, stepping back two paces with a look of "I don’t know this embarrassing person."

"Old Watson’s singing is actually pretty good," Jane Sampson defended the man on stage. In university, there was one year during the school’s music festival when Old Watson had dragged Jane to the piano to accompany him, and later, they won an award, and he even bought Jane Sampson a box of snacks. While Jane was speaking up for him, Old Watson had already started the intro, tapping his foot on the stage in rhythm, a habit he had for keeping the beat.

Just as Old Watson began singing the first word, Alexander Forest shouted with approval, "Good!"

Then he fumbled in his pocket, intending to pull out 100 bucks, but since his wallet was left in the private room and after searching himself for half a day, he only managed to fish out ten bucks and tossed it on stage, "Well sung, young master rewards you!"

Seeing the ten bucks, Old Watson, on stage, became so choked with indignation that he couldn’t even sing and lifted his foot as if to kick Alexander Forest.

The two men, on stage and backstage, had the group of onlookers laughing heartily.

"After Old Watson finishes singing, the first thing he’s definitely going to do is beat up Alexander Forest," Nina Rice laughed so hard she couldn’t straighten her waist.

Since they were planning to hang out downstairs for a bit, Yvette Quick turned around to look for a waiter to bring them some chairs or to clear a booth for them.

Unexpectedly, as she turned around, she hadn’t yet spotted a waiter but instead saw Julie Sampton standing at the staircase entrance.

To ensure the staircase was noticeable, the entrance was well-lit. Yvette Quick glanced over and immediately noticed Julie Sampton’s expression: dark and gloomy, the very picture of a wicked stepmother.

"What bad luck to run into her the moment I get back, totally nauseating," Yvette Quick muttered under her breath before tugging at Nina Rice and Jane Sampson’s hands, "Look back, at the staircase entrance, there stands an annoying ghost."

"An annoying ghost? Who?" Nina Rice became instantly curious and quickly looked back, then let out a laugh, "Indeed, it’s the persistent annoying ghost."

Seeing Jane Sampson about to turn around, Nina Rice promptly twisted her head back, "Don’t bother, who else could the annoying ghost be besides Julie Sampton?"

Upon hearing it was Julie Sampton, Jane Sampson lost all interest in looking back.

Meanwhile, Julie Sampton had already seen their group. At first, when she saw Yvette Quick, Julie thought she might be seeing things, since Yvette had been studying internationally and had hardly returned to the country in recent years. So, seeing someone who looked so similar, Julie took a few more glances.

However, later, when Julie noticed the expression on Yvette’s face, she was certain of her guess; she hadn’t been mistaken. Among the group standing at the back of the stage, one of them was definitely Yvette Quick.

Because, for a lifetime, Julie Sampton would never forget the look of disgust and nausea on Yvette Quick’s face, just like someone seeing a pile of excrement.

Yvette Quick was back, so the one on stage was the Anderson Family’s grandson from City South who worked as a forensic doctor? And the person next to Peter Gingery was indeed Alexander Forest and Thomas Lancaster?

And the one closest to Jane Sampson had to be James Black.

Julie Sampton stood at the staircase entrance for a few minutes, hesitating, then thinking of the powerful families behind this group, she still lifted her step and walked over to them.
