Chapter 958 - 966 Matchmaking
She knew that she always had ulterior motives.
"Okay, I know you’re busy, and I won’t take up much of your time, just a small matter. Once it’s discussed, that’ll be it,"
Mother Sampton didn’t pick up on the impatience pressed into Jane’s words, assuming Jane was just showing rare consideration for her. She went straight to the point, "Do you know that Julie Sampton already quit her job at the TV station many days ago?"
"I didn’t know." Jane wasn’t diplomatic, "If I show too much concern for her matters, she’ll think I have an ulterior motive, think I’m enjoying her misfortune."
"Don’t talk like that about Julie, she isn’t that petty," Mother Sampton couldn’t stand anyone speaking ill of Julie in any quirky way, "Sometimes she’s just in a bad mood, that’s why she can be a bit bad-tempered."
Jane scoffed, Julie was seldom in a good mood any day of the year.
"Julie quit her job because your grandparents pressured her. She has been cooped up at home for a long time. Your grandparents want Julie to get married quickly, you heard them that day," Mother Sampton said with a hint of blame in her voice, resenting Jane’s grandparents’ partiality towards Jane and their failure to show more tolerance for Julie, their granddaughter who had a rough childhood.
"I know," Jane answered, then chuckled, "Mom, please don’t tell me that Julie has taken a fancy to James Black and wants you to persuade me to give him back to her."
"What nonsense are you talking about?" Mother Sampton’s voice suddenly sharpened, "Your dad said that Kane Forest and Julie are well-matched. I thought about it all afternoon, and apart from him being a bit older than Julie, there doesn’t seem to be anything bad about it. Kane Forest is the person in charge of Forest Clan Group and he hasn’t been seen with any dubious pretty girls around him, so he must be a clean-living man who also values family. Your dad mentioned you get along well with Kane Forest, so he’s asked you to find an opportunity to introduce Julie to Kane Forest, help matchmaking them."
Jane had never dreamed that Mother Sampton would call her today because she had set her sights on Kane Forest.
Through her words, she was still finding fault with Kane for being much older than Julie.
If the person on the other end of the phone weren’t Mother Sampton who had raised her, if she hadn’t sincerely called her "mom" for more than a decade, Jane would have liked to respond.
It’s not like Julie is good enough for Kane Forest with her attitude.
Did Kane dig up the Sampton family’s ancestral tomb in his previous life or something? Why else would he be so unlucky to marry a woman like Julie?
The people of the Forest Family are so amiable. Father Forest and his two brothers, all the way to the three siblings of the Forest family, have a great relationship. Would marrying Julie disrupt the harmony within the Forest Family?
How dark-hearted would Jane have to be to push Julie onto Kane, knowing full well what Julie is like?
To put it harshly, the Forest Family isn’t a junkyard.
Why should they have to accept a person like Julie for Kane Forest?
Wouldn’t that be unfair to Kane?
Kane must’ve had some bad luck recently to be targeted by Father Sampton and Julie.
"Mom, I’m sorry, but I can’t help with this. If Julie wants to be Mrs. Forest, she should show some capability and go after it by herself. Let her bite off only as much as she can chew. I’m still busy, so I’m going to hang up now." Jane promptly ended the call and tossed her phone to the side, sinking into a grim silence.
