Chapter 959 - 967: Why Persuade

~4 min read 623 words

"Let’s eat," Coco Edwards knew about the Sampton family’s messy household affairs, so she didn’t ask further and just urged Jane Sampson to eat, "The seafood porridge won’t taste good once it gets cold. If you don’t eat it, there’s nothing I can do, but I can tattle on you."

Jane Sampson glanced at Coco Edwards, "Tell me, what benefits has James Black offered you?"

"He said he’d help me talk to Sister Bell about a salary increase," Coco Edwards giggled, "That’s a huge benefit to me."

Jane Sampson couldn’t help but laugh, but she still picked up her chopsticks and began eating.

Indeed, she wouldn’t let herself get angry over unworthy people. If James Black were here, he would definitely call her foolish.

Mother Sampton must have thought of Kane Forest because of Father Sampton’s suggestion; Jane knew her father well. He was a man who was only interested in profits. If Julie Sampton married Kane Forest, then for her daughter Julie, it would mean maximizing her benefits.

Businessmen, always looking to strike a deal, anytime, anywhere.

That’s how her marriage was back then; now, her own daughter Julie couldn’t escape it either.

At the Sampton home, they listened as Jane Sampson coldly declined and then hung up the phone. Mother Sampton was stunned for a long time, not regaining her composure until Julie came in through the door.

"What’s wrong, Julie? Have you been waiting long? I’ll just apply some lipstick, and we can leave immediately," Mother Sampton turned to look at Julie sitting on a chair by the dressing table, her voice incredibly gentle.

"Mom, I heard everything you said to Jane over the phone," Julie sat on the dressing table chair with a cold expression, "Mom, I don’t like Kane Forest."

"But it’s what your daddy wants," Mother Sampton said, "At first, I also felt that Kane was much older than you, but this afternoon, I asked around, and everyone says Kane is a good man. Lots of people are eyeing the position of his wife. At such a young age, he took over Forest Clan Group and now manages it very well. Most importantly, there have never been any messy entanglements with any women by his side."

"Mom, Kane Forest is just like James Black, all cold and icy. I don’t want to marry a man who is like an ice block," Julie’s eyes reddened as she clung to her mother’s hand, "Mom, I feel the same fear toward Kane Forest as I do toward James Black. I don’t want to marry a husband that scares me."

"But I’m afraid I won’t be able to persuade your daddy," Mother Sampton admitted, troubled.

"Why persuade? Didn’t Jane just now refuse your request, unwilling to agree to help me with Kane? When daddy finds out, you can say that Jane refused. If dad gets angry, it will be because Jane is being unreasonable, and he won’t blame you or me."

Julie didn’t need to guess; she knew from the expression on Mother Sampton’s face when she came in that Jane must have refused to help over the phone.

"Can we really do that?" Mother Sampton hesitated; although she was displeased with Jane’s lack of help, she also feared that if things didn’t turn out well, her husband would get angry.

"Mom, why not? Jane did in fact refuse you, what’s wrong with that? It would be great if dad gets angry, and it would be even better if we could get the grandparents to know how selfish Jane is. Let them see Jane’s true colors. If the grandparents start disliking her, then maybe we can take back her shares later. Let’s see how long Jane Sampson can keep smiling then."
