Chapter 1013

~5 min read 843 words

"It's here! Haha!"

Uncle Mouri excitedly gripped the fishing rod and began to reel it in: "It looks like a big one, watch me!"

"Hmm?"

Akaso Kaze, Ran, and Sonoko looked at the water surface.

They saw a sedan floating up in the increasingly turbulent current, and Uncle's fishing line was hooked onto the car window; it looked somewhat familiar.

"This is?"

"That's the car I rented!"

Uncle Mouri widened his eyes as he looked at the sedan being washed away by the current, his eyes turning red as he gripped the fishing rod tightly.

"Damn it! I won't let you drift away! Come back!"

"That's impossible, Dad!"

Akaso Kaze hurriedly went over and grabbed Uncle, who was almost dragged into the river.

Is this fishing for a car?

"I'm telling you, Uncle, don't waste your effort."

"Snap!"

The fishing line suddenly snapped, and before Akaso Kaze could finish his sentence, Uncle, losing his balance, sat backward.

"Splash!"

Conan, who was holding an umbrella behind him, was knocked into the water.

Akaso Kaze hurriedly cast his Mind Hand to fish him out.

"How is it? Are you okay?"

Akaso Kaze looked at Conan, who was running at the nose and sneezing repeatedly.

"Did Conan catch a cold?"

"Yes, I prepared cold medicine when we came this morning, but now it's all drifted away with the car," Ran said.

"That's why fishing in this weather is a stupid idea," Sonoko complained unhappily, "and you just had to park the car by the river."

"Today was just bad luck," Mouri Kogoro still looked at the river, unwilling to give up.

"Damn it, I've even lost my car."

"Now I have to pay a huge sum of money again."

Conan stood silently in the middle, feeling like he had a belly full of words he couldn't say.

"Alright, Dad," Ran said helplessly, "let's go back first. It's almost dark, and if this continues, Conan's cold will get even worse."

The man who had been holding the umbrella suddenly walked over, "Come to my house. My place is very close, and I have cold medicine and clothes for the child."

Sonoko's villa wasn't close, they had come by car, and Akaso Kaze's villa had nothing at all.

So everyone went to the man's house together.

On the way, he introduced himself; the man's name was Akashi Hiroto, and his residence was a wooden villa.

After entering the villa, Akashi Hiroto said: "I'll go get the cold medicine. You all go inside and sit for a while. It's been a long time since I've had guests."

"Excuse us."

Everyone followed him into the living room.

Akashi Hiroto took out a medicine box and a flashlight from the inner room.

He said to Conan: "Come, open your mouth and let me see... your throat is already red and swollen, and your voice is hoarse. It's best not to make any sound for now; it might turn into acute pharyngitis."

Mouri Kogoro asked: "Have you studied medicine?"

"This?" the young man shook his head and smiled, "Because I used to be a tennis coach and health worker, I learned a lot of health-related knowledge. By the way, I have some clothes from when I was a child; let this little brother change into them."

"I happened to make a lot of food, including curry. Let's eat here tonight."

Everyone hurriedly exchanged polite words.

The young man went to the inner room, and suddenly a burst of footsteps sounded upstairs.

A hunched old man appeared at the top of the stairs.

With deep eye sockets, a round, chubby face covered in age spots, and a bald head, he was expressionless, like an old demon from the mountains—an exceptionally terrifying sight.

"Hiroto," the old man looked over the people in the living room and said with an unhappy expression, "who are these people?"

"They live nearby. They ran into heavy rain and came to the house to take shelter."

"People from nearby?"

The old man squinted his eyes and went back upstairs without saying anything.

However, everyone, including Mouri Kogoro, still seemed a bit frightened.

Akaso Kaze, on the other hand, didn't feel anything.

Humans are much better looking than monsters.

"Who is that old gentleman?" Mouri Kogoro asked.

"That's my father," Akashi Hiroto walked into the living room with the child's clothes and a yukata, "I only have clothes from when I was a child. I don't know if they'll fit, but try them on first."

"Flash flood?"

While Akashi Hiroto was preparing the curry rice, Sonoko called the villa.

Because of the flash flood, they couldn't come to pick people up.

At least they couldn't go back today.

"They said the road collapsed due to a mudslide, and they can only come to pick us up tomorrow," Sonoko put down the phone and looked at everyone helplessly.

"Since that's the case," Akashi Hiroto, who was serving curry rice in the kitchen, smiled upon hearing this, "you can stay at my house tonight. I happen to have plenty of spare quilts."
