Chapter 236: Missile? Long Country has Air-to-Air Missiles?!
Jackson pushed the control stick with full confidence, and the F-86 "Sabre" fighter sped forward.
As one of the most advanced fighters in the world at the time, the F-86 had already established an overwhelming advantage over the MiG-15 on the battlefield.
Facing those backward propeller planes of Long Country, Jackson didn't even feel much interest.
"Guys, let's play a game. Let's see who can shoot down a Long Country plane first. The winner's bar tab tonight will be paid by the loser, how about it?"
"Haha, count me in!"
"No problem, get ready to pay up, Jackson!"
The fighter formation accelerated, and the distance numbers on the Radar kept decreasing: 40 kilometers... 30 kilometers... 20 kilometers...
"Strange," Jackson frowned, "How are these planes flying so high? It's usually very difficult for propeller planes to reach this altitude."
"Maybe the intelligence was wrong," the deputy leader guessed, "or do they have some specially modified planes?"
"Doesn't matter," Jackson dismissed, "No matter what kind of planes they are, they aren't going home today."
"See that? Those little dots up ahead? That's our prey!"
The F-86 formation slowed down slightly, preparing to properly "toy with" these "backward" Long Country planes.
Jackson even consciously slowed down, wanting to let the other side fire first, and then demonstrate the superior performance of the F-86.
"Get ready to welcome the 'last struggle' of the Dragon Country Air Force, haha! When I get back, I'm going to write a report titled 'How I Shot Down Three Long Country Junk Planes in One Day'!"
Just as the F-86 formation was immersed in the relaxed atmosphere, the Radar Operator's voice suddenly became tense:
"Sir, something's wrong! The speed of those planes is still increasing, now approaching 950 kilometers per hour! This... this can't be propeller planes!"
Jackson's laughter stopped abruptly: "What? Say that again!"
"950 kilometers per hour, sir! And... my god, they are starting to break formation, they're forming an attack pattern!"
Jackson finally sensed that something was wrong and hurriedly ordered:
"Attention all aircraft, increase to maximum combat speed, prepare to engage unknown enemy aircraft!"
Just as the F-86s accelerated, the "little dots" ahead suddenly grew rapidly, charging straight toward them.
When the distance was close enough to identify with the naked eye, Jackson discovered in horror that they were not propeller planes at all, but a type of jet fighter he had never seen before!
The streamlined fuselage, the twin-tail design, and the three cannon muzzles at the front of the nose all signaled that this was a modern fighter.
Most shocking of all, the speed of these planes was even faster than the F-86!
"My god... what is that?" Jackson exclaimed, "How could the Long Country people have jet fighters? Those idiots in intelligence!"
Before he could react, the enemy fighters had already maneuvered rapidly, splitting into two groups: one group dove straight at the F-86 formation, while the other bypassed the battlefield and headed straight for the Bomber group in the rear.
"Stop them!" Jackson shouted, "Don't let them get near the Bombers!"
The F-86s pursued at full speed, but to Jackson's despair, the speed of those mysterious fighters was actually more than 20% faster than theirs!
No matter how he pushed the Engine to its limit, the distance was not closing but constantly widening.
"Sir, we can't catch them!" the deputy leader reported anxiously, "They're too fast!"
……
Wang Wei wore a cold sneer, aimed at the nearest F-86, and without hesitation, pressed his thumb down—
"Whoosh!"
A PL-2 Air-to-Air Missile detached from under the wing of the J-6, dragging white smoke as it headed straight for the target.
Jackson suddenly heard a piercing alarm sound in the cockpit that he had never heard before.
"What the hell is that?" He scanned the dashboard in confusion, then suddenly saw his co-pilot pointing in horror outside the plane.
"A Missile! They launched a damn Missile!"
"What?" Jackson looked incredulous—in his understanding, Air-to-Air Missiles were still in the experimental stage; they could never appear on the battlefield, let alone be mastered by Long Country!
But the reality before him allowed no room for doubt; a streamlined Missile was whistling toward him, its white exhaust trail drawing a striking arc across the blue sky.
"Evasive maneuvers! Evasive maneuvers now!" Jackson shouted instinctively, while yanking the control stick, causing the F-86 to tilt sharply to the right and perform a sudden turn.
Jackson desperately controlled the fighter, using every evasive maneuver he knew—diving, climbing, sharp turns, barrel rolls... but no matter how he maneuvered, the Missile remained like a shadow, getting closer after every turn.
"How can it keep up?" Cold sweat broke out on Jackson's forehead, and for the first time, his voice revealed naked fear, "This is impossible!"
He desperately pushed the throttle to the limit; the F-86 emitted a painful roar, as if warning its master not to overtax it.
But it was all in vain.
The infrared seeker of the PL-2 Missile firmly locked onto the heat source of the F-86's Engine; even if Jackson were the best pilot in the world, he could not escape this dimension-reduction strike brought about by a technological generation gap.
At the final moment, Jackson howled in despair: "It's catching up! God, save me..."
Before he could finish, there was a blinding flash, followed by a deafening explosion.
The F-86 fighter was instantly torn to pieces, turning into a huge fireball, leaving a thick black trail of smoke in the azure sky as the wreckage fell toward the ground like raindrops.
Wang Wei had no time to admire his results; he cleanly pulled up the nose to look for the next target.
"Eagle One has shot down one enemy aircraft, using a Missile." He reported briefly, "Continuing the mission."
"Eagle Three understands!"
"Eagle Seven received!"
"Eagle Four has locked onto a new target, preparing to launch!"
The radio of the J-6 formation was filled with calm exchanges, in sharp contrast to the panicked calls erupting in the enemy's communication network.
"Jackson has been shot down! Repeat, Jackson has been shot down!"
"What the hell is that? A Missile? The Long Country people have Air-to-Air Missiles?"
"My god, we're finished!"
With the explosion of Jackson's fighter, the atmosphere of the entire battlefield changed abruptly.
For the first time, the enemy pilots faced weapons beyond their cognitive range, and fear spread rapidly like a plague.
The second wave of attacks by the J-6s was even more ferocious, and two more F-86s were hit by Missiles, exploding in mid-air.
The remaining fighter pilots completely lost their will to fight and fled in all directions.
"Retreat! Everyone retreat!" the leader's voice trembled over the radio, "They have Missiles, we cannot fight them!"
