Chapter 253: RPG!

~7 min read 1,227 words

In the distance, the black silhouettes of over a dozen enemy tanks slowly approached, with a large number of infantry following behind, pushing toward the mountain pass under the cover of night.

The squad leader gripped the detonator in his hand—the one connected to the Claymore mines buried at the intersection—his eyes fixed firmly ahead, calculating the distance.

500 meters... 400 meters... 300 meters...

"Ready!" he commanded in a whisper, and the soldiers quietly raised their RPG-2s, aiming at the approaching tanks.

200 meters... 150 meters...

The enemy tanks had entered the ambush zone, still unaware of the danger and continuing to advance steadily.

100 meters... Now!

The squad leader slammed the detonator and shouted, "Fire!"

The entire battlefield instantly erupted.

……

In the night, the enemy tank cluster advanced like a Steel Torrent, their tracks crushing the soft earth and emitting a dull roar.

Major Taile stood on the turret of the command tank, observing the terrain ahead through night-vision goggles, a look of disdain on his face.

Reports from various companies came over the radio: the Long Country defense line had collapsed, and the soldiers were retreating in chaos.

"It seems these oriental monkeys have finally realized the reality," Taile said to the adjutant beside him.

"The Long Country's tricks end here. Continue the advance as planned; by this time tomorrow, we will be able to encircle their main force."

"Sir, there is a mountain pass ahead. Should we slow down to pass through?" came the inquiry over the radio.

Taile sneered, "No need! Our armored force isn't here for a tour. Advance at full speed and seize the opportunity of the enemy's rout!"

Over a dozen M46 Tanks formed a wedge formation and accelerated toward the pass. Behind the tanks, fully armed infantry followed closely, occasionally firing into the bushes on both sides to flush out any hidden enemy troops.

"Look how fast those poor wretches are running," a tank Group Leader laughed over the comms.

"They've probably never seen what a real tank battle looks like!"

"Don't forget to take plenty of photos later," another officer chimed in.

"Back to the newspapers, front-page headline: 'On the Eve of Christmas, Our Steel Torrent Crushes the Long Country Paper Tiger'!"

The tank group had already penetrated deep into the pass. The hillsides on both sides were covered in dense bushes, but everything seemed quiet and safe in the dark of night.

The road ahead was flat with no obstacles, and the sound of the Engine echoed in the valley, giving the enemy tank crews the illusion of conquerors.

Just then, dozens of fire points lit up in the bushes on the hillside.

"RPG!"

The assistant gunner had just shouted when a Rocket Shell whistled in and slammed heavily into the tank's side armor.

To everyone's surprise, the seemingly crude Rocket Shell pierced the M46 Patton Tank's proud side armor as easily as a red-hot Iron rod piercing butter, injecting a high-temperature metal jet into the tank's interior and instantly igniting the ammunition and fuel.

"Boom!"

With a loud bang, the lead tank instantly turned into a giant fireball.

The turret was blown several meters high by the force of the internal explosion, tracing a bizarre arc in the air before crashing heavily to the ground.

"How is this possible!" Major Taile was dumbfounded, completely unable to believe the scene before him.

"What the hell is that? How could the Long Country people have a weapon capable of piercing our armor?"

Before he could recover, the second wave of strikes followed immediately.

"Boom! Boom! Boom!"

Three consecutive explosions occurred, and three more tanks were hit, with thick smoke and flames shooting into the sky.

The shockwave from the secondary explosions of the ammunition inside the tanks made the ground feel like it was shaking.

Just as the enemy tanks were thrown into disarray, twelve Claymore Directional Mines at the entrance of the pass were detonated simultaneously!

"Bang! Bang! Bang!"

Thousands of pre-fabricated steel balls flew out at the speed of sound, forming twelve deadly fan-shaped kill zones that covered the entire infantry group.

The effect was simply horrific—the first three rows of infantry were instantly torn to shreds, flesh and blood flying everywhere.

The soldiers in the rear, though they escaped the fatal blow, were covered in blood from the steel balls and screamed incessantly.

"My God! My leg!"

"Medic! Where is the medic?"

"Retreat! Retreat quickly!"

Chaotic shouts filled the radio channel as Major Taile tried to regain control of the situation:

"All tanks, form a defensive formation! Infantry, find cover on the spot! Suppress those rocket launchers with fire!"

But his orders were quickly drowned out by the third wave of strikes.

On the high ground in the distance, the Long Country's 57mm recoilless guns began to show their power.

"Target locked, distance 950 meters, wind speed level 3, northwest wind!" the gunner quickly adjusted the sight.

"Fire!"

The cannon roared, and a Tungsten Core Armor-Piercing Shell whistled out like the scythe of death, precisely sweeping across the battlefield and hitting the armor below the side track of an M46 Tank that was turning.

The tank suddenly stopped moving, its track snapped, and thick smoke poured from the engine compartment.

A few seconds later, the entire tank exploded with a roar like a giant lighter, flames erupting from the turret hatch to form a massive mushroom of fire.

"Destroyed one!" the gunner shouted excitedly, quickly loading the next shell.

"Again! Target on the right, that tank trying to cover the infantry!"

Another cannon blast rang out, and another enemy main battle tank instantly turned into burning scrap metal.

"My God!"

Major Taile watched all this in horror, and the radio was filled with panicked reports and screams:

"I've been hit! The turret is on fire!"

"Cannot advance! The tracks have been destroyed!"

"What the hell is that thing? Our armor can't stop it at all!"

"The Third Company has suffered heavy losses, requesting support!"

"We are surrounded! Rocket Shells are coming from every direction!"

Within five minutes, the enemy's vanguard tank company had already lost more than half its strength; the remaining tanks were either destroyed or stuck in the mud and unable to move, and the infantry groups had suffered over fifty percent casualties, losing their combat effectiveness entirely.

Major Taile finally realized that they had fallen into a meticulously designed ambush.

He frantically slapped the communicator: "All units, retreat immediately! Repeat, retreat immediately! We are being ambushed!"

But it was too late.

Just as the remaining tanks attempted to turn around, another rain of Rocket Shells struck.

The RPG-2 Rocket Launcher operators employed a staggered firing tactic, with one group firing while another reloaded, maintaining continuous fire suppression.

In a mere ten minutes, the entire enemy vanguard force fell into complete chaos.

The destroyed tanks blocked the narrow pass, forming a "steel graveyard"; the follow-up units could neither advance nor effectively retreat, becoming sitting ducks.

"This is impossible..."

Major Taile muttered to himself, watching those M46 Tanks, which should have been invincible on the battlefield, turn into torches one after another.

"How could the Long Country people have this kind of weapon? This completely contradicts our intelligence!"

Just as he attempted to organize a final resistance, an RPG-2 Rocket Launcher shell whistled in and scored a direct hit on his command tank.
