Chapter 409: Murder to Silence
When they heard that Xu Mo wanted to use 64x Speed Surveillance Viewing, the three officers who came to learn immediately wondered whether they had misheard.
Xu Mo should have said 6x speed, not 64x speed.
Yes, it must be that way, we must have misheard… that was the thought shared in the minds of the three officers at that moment.
After all, watching surveillance playback at 64x speed is absurd; an hour of footage would finish in less than a minute—how the hell could anyone see it clearly?
But the next second, Han Fei did something they did not expect.
Han Fei reached for the mouse, changed the playback speed from 3x to 64x, then rose from his chair and gave Xu Mo a seat.
"I can't see anything at 64x speed, I'm counting on you."
Han Fei knew his own limits; he lacked the ability to watch surveillance at 64x speed, and among those present only Xu Mo possessed that capability.
To clear the case quickly, Xu Mo wasted no time, sat directly in the chair Han Fei had just vacated, and began reviewing the footage recorded by the Power Supply Room entrance camera.
The three officers who came to learn: "???"
They glanced at Xu Mo, sitting upright and watching the surveillance intently, then at the surrounding officers, and surprise and confusion flashed across their faces.
Xu Mo actually started the playback at 64x speed!?
Could he see clearly?
Chen Ke noticed the three's odd reaction and smiled, offering an explanation.
"Don't be surprised, it's standard procedure—this is also one of Team Leader Xu's signature moves, impressive, right?"
As a colleague who works with Xu Mo at the same Police Station, Chen Ke has indeed witnessed the prowess of Xu Mo's eyes.
The first time he saw Xu Mo use 64x speed to watch playback, his expression, like that of the three learning officers, was one of disbelief.
But after a while, he got used to it.
It's just watching surveillance at 64x speed, after all.
It's merely one of Xu Mo's many signature moves, nothing to be surprised about; he's long been accustomed to it.
After a few seconds of silence, the three answered blankly.
"... Impressive."
Come to think of it, this is more than impressive; the skill borders on cheating!
Watching at 64x speed... the eyes and brain have to be absurdly strong.
A little over two minutes later.
Xu Mo suddenly tapped the space bar on the keyboard, pausing the footage, and pointed at the computer screen.
"10:47, this person entered the Power Supply Room."
Following Xu Mo's finger, everyone saw a man in a maintenance uniform, carrying a tool box, enter the Power Supply Room.
"So this must be the person who colluded with the thieves inside the Power Supply Room to rob the vault!" Chen Ke exclaimed excitedly.
"Not necessarily; I'll keep watching. If from 10:47 until the power cut only he entered the Power Supply Room, then we can confirm he's our target," Xu Mo said, continuing to review the footage from the camera at the Power Supply Room entrance.
Another minute later.
Xu Mo paused the footage again.
"Between 10:47 and 12:03 no one entered the Power Supply Room; the footage ends at 12:03, after which the power cut. The person tampering inside the Power Supply Room is the man who just appeared on the video," Xu Mo concluded.
Hearing this, the officers' fighting spirit surged instantly.
Once the tamper in the Power Supply Room was identified, the rest was simple: capture him and the remaining thieves would be caught in one net, and the case would be resolved quickly.
Xu Mo rewound the footage to 10:47, then turned his head toward the manager in the crowd.
Pointing at the man on the screen: "Is this person from your company?"
The manager glanced briefly, then shook his head immediately.
"He's not from our company; I don't know him."
"So he snuck in?" Han Fei interjected, "Your company's security is lacking; an outsider can just walk in and even get into the Power Supply Room?"
The manager bowed his head in shame, speechless.
"Check this person!" Han Fei continued.
Han Fei didn't dwell on how the man entered the locked Power Supply Room.
The Power Supply Room lock is a basic one; anyone with a little lock‑picking knowledge could open it, and the man was part of a theft gang, so his lock‑picking skill was no surprise.
They sent a screenshot of the footage back to a colleague on duty at the Police Station, and shortly after, the man's detailed information was retrieved.
To apprehend him quickly, the officers used the Sky Eye System to lock onto his location and sent his coordinates to Han Fei.
It is worth noting that the Sky Eye System showed the man's last appearance on camera was near this Insurance Company.
"Tianyan Search shows he's nearby; split up and search!" Han Fei said after glancing at his phone.
Speed is of the essence; the officers said nothing and rushed out to begin the search.
Half an hour later.
In an alley behind the Insurance Company, beside a trash can, Li Chen discovered the man's corpse.
He immediately notified Han Fei and Xu Mo.
Soon after, the two arrived here, each leading two squads of officers.
Seeing the corpse beside the trash can, the officers fell silent.
At that moment, the air seemed to solidify.
After all that effort, the person who could link the whole case together was dead.
Xu Mo stepped forward, examined the body, and shook his head.
"He's dead, time of death around 1 p. m. —the same time the thieves likely completed the heist. Cause of death: a knife wound to the left chest, right at the heart, a single fatal blow. The technique is professional; likely done by someone from that theft gang—murder to silence a witness."
Xu Mo gave a wry smile.
After such a long grind to track him down, they found that he had already become a corpse.
Someone is deliberately preventing them from investigating the case.
"Fuck! These bastards!", Chen Ke, helplessly furious, thrust his hand and punched the wall.
He originally thought that as long as they caught this person, the follow-up investigation would go smoothly; who knew this would happen.
This person died, and the clue they had painstakingly found was thus cut off.
The situation, which had been gradually becoming clear, suddenly became confusing again.
The other officers, although they did not act as extremely as Chen Ke, were also in a very bad mood, their faces showing anger that could hardly be concealed.
After a moment, everyone's gaze once again gathered on Xu Mo...
