Chapter 416: Interception
Chadaokou.
According to Han Fei's original calculation, they needed half an hour to reach this Chadaokou, but unexpectedly they arrived in only twenty‑five minutes.
Whether they rushed or not, they still weren't too late and had enough time to set up in advance.
Before arriving, Han Fei had calculated that the suspect would take more than half an hour to reach this Chadaokou.
He dared to draw that conclusion because Han Fei was convinced the suspect wouldn't speed on the road.
After all, the suspect certainly didn't yet know he had been locked onto by the Police; under such circumstances, any normal person wouldn't invite trouble, as driving too fast would attract traffic police and be counterproductive.
"Block the road and keep an eye on a white box truck with license plate Yang317; the suspect is in that vehicle," Han Fei instructed.
The officers immediately complied, drove the police car onto Huanxian, and parked it across the road to block the way.
Of course, to minimize impact on other traffic, they left a gap for other vehicles to pass, intercepting only the box truck with license plate Yang317 that Han Fei had mentioned.
Ten minutes later.
A white box truck appeared in the officers' line of sight.
Likewise, the officers' figures and the line of police cars blocking the road appeared in the view of the man driving the truck at that moment.
Although the man wore a haute‑couture suit, it felt out of place; the expensive suit clashed completely with his demeanor.
"How are there cops?" the man frowned, realizing the situation wasn't simple.
At first, he had entertained a hopeful thought that the officers were blocking someone else.
But when he saw one officer thrust his hand toward his direction with an excited finger, he instantly changed his mind.
These cops were after him!
"Was my job not clean enough?" the man muttered to himself.
I killed every witness! Now I'm the only one who knows, how could the Police trace it back to me?
And why so fast!?
According to his plan, after all insiders in this operation were dead, the Police wouldn't be able to trace him for a while.
After all, investigations take time; they couldn't immediately point the finger at him, and during that period he could convert all the stolen goods into cash.
By the time the Police got onto him, he would have long fled.
Things shouldn't be like this now!
Now the only road before the man is this last‑ditch plan: force a reckless charge, hide the loot somewhere, lay low for a while, and resume activity after the heat dies down.
Thinking that, the man steeled himself and slammed the accelerator.
"Life and death are fate, wealth is heaven's will, damn your mother, no one can block my path to riches!"
The white box truck's speed surged abruptly, making Han Fei's eyes twitch.
"You bastard... planning to go hard, everyone step aside!"
Arresting is urgent, but as the Team Leader he doesn't want his officers to be injured or sacrificed needlessly.
People certainly can't stop a vehicle; the officers can only dodge first, then board the truck to force a stop.
Seeing this, the man driving the truck couldn't help but sneer.
"Damn you, keep blocking! I won't kill you by crashing!"
You think you can dodge? You're scared? You have a today too?
The man was in high spirits; this time he wasn't the stray dog fleeing, but the roles reversed and the officers were the ones dodging him.
He got a surge of adrenaline, a wildness flashing in his eyes, and swerved the vehicle so the front pointed at the officers who were ducking, not the gap left for other traffic.
He not only wanted to force a reckless charge, but also to smash a police officer for fun, saying even Jesus couldn't stop him!
"What the hell..." Han Fei was startled; the suspect had gone mad!
Thinking that, he didn't hesitate, drew the sidearm he carried on duty, fired a shot at the truck's cabin without aiming; he couldn't stand watching his comrades face mortal danger helplessly.
"Bang!"
A gunshot cracked the sky.
The shot missed the driver, the bullet grazing him and striking the back of the driver's seat.
Since Han Fei had no time to aim and the truck was moving too fast, missing was expected.
Hearing the gunshot, the man instantly calmed, the madness in his eyes fading, and he instinctively pressed the brake.
The bullet whizzed past, indicating the officer had deliberately missed to intimidate; if the truck didn't stop, the next shot might hit his own head, the man thought.
While braking, the man yanked the steering wheel, slamming the truck into the median guardrail and avoiding the officers directly ahead.
After smashing through a dozen guardrails, the truck finally stopped.
The airbags deployed, the front severely deformed and no longer drivable; the man was unhurt except for a dizzying blow from the airbag.
He kicked open the mangled door, leapt out, and planned to crawl over the road into the roadside woods to escape.
The truck's forward inertia had created a gap, giving him a chance to flee.
However, after only a few steps, another gunshot rang from behind.
"Bang!"
Han Fei fired again, shooting upward: "Don't move, hands over your head, stay crouched!"
The man's DNA‑etched memory kicked in; with unusually practiced hands he placed his head between his hands and crouched obediently, the motion smooth and flawless as if trained, his many arrests having made him adept.
"Don't shoot... don't shoot!"
He hadn't expected the officers coming to capture him to be armed and to fire at the slightest provocation; so far they'd already fired two shots.
Han Fei raised his gun at the truck's cabin and shouted, "Stay crouched!"
"I'm crouching, I'm crouched, I haven't moved..." the man kept nodding.
With a gun pointed at him, he had no choice but to comply.
Han Fei, still holding his gun, jogged to the man's side, drew Handcuffs, and cuffed the man...
