Chapter 441: Ask the Party Involved
"What method?" Chen Ke asked instinctively.
Xu Mo replied concisely: "Take this video and go ask the parties involved."
They now already have video evidence left by the arsonist at the time of the fire, so they can directly take this video to the parties involved, namely the young couple who were burned at midnight.
The arsonist burned down the Music Shop, so it obviously wasn't just because she was idle; she must have some connection or dispute with that couple.
In this surveillance footage, the arsonist didn't show her face; the police officers, just by looking at the figure, couldn't guess the person's identity, but the injured young couple should be able to determine the person's identity from the video.
Hospital.
The burned couple was taken to the hospital last night at midnight; they have now escaped life‑threatening danger, but are currently lying in two separate Sterile Wards.
The police officers arrived with the video copied from SirenBowuguan, ready to learn some details from the couple.
Outside one of the Sterile Wards.
Wang Dachuan and several police officers were negotiating with the nurse.
The officers produced their Police Badge.
"We are police officers, currently investigating the case. May we speak with them to learn a bit of information?"
The young nurse thought for a moment, then showed a reluctant expression and shook her head.
"It's not feasible right now; they just escaped life‑threatening danger, their emotions are unstable, and they have burns. If you go in like this, it could cause infection and be fatal... How about you wait? Come back after they've recovered a bit."
Their burns are extremely severe; they were rescued all night, and only after great difficulty have they escaped life‑threatening danger. The burns are serious, and any infection now could be fatal to both of them.
If a death occurs in the ward, the hospital will be held responsible. For safety, the nurse refuses to let the police officers in now; the investigation can be done anytime, but patient infection would be a problem.
"We'll just ask two questions and be out quickly," Wang Dachuan insisted.
As he said, he took another step forward.
"Absolutely not," the nurse hurried to the doorway, blocking Wang Dachuan with her body and shaking her head again: "The two patients' conditions are indeed poor; you really can't go in now."
At that moment, Han Fei and Xu Mo also arrived.
"What's wrong?" Xu Mo asked involuntarily upon seeing the standoff between the officers and the nurse at the ward entrance.
When they first entered the hospital, they happened to see a doctor being harassed by a patient's relatives; Xu Mo and Han Fei stepped in to mediate, and to avoid delay, they sent the remaining police officers ahead to the ward to inquire.
Little did they know that after resolving the conflict, they would find the police officers still unable to enter the ward, being blocked by the nurse at the door.
Wang Dachuan scratched his head.
"Team Leader Xu, Han Team, this nurse sister won't let us in."
Hearing that, the nurse realized the two newcomers must be the officers' superiors and explained again.
"It's not that I'm refusing entry; our hospital has a rule—those two patients just escaped danger, and no one is allowed to visit now."
Han Fei said, "We'll just ask two questions, quickly, and leave; we won't cause any trouble... you can just watch from the side, and if the patient shows any discomfort we will leave immediately."
The nurse still shook her head.
"That won't work either; the patients have multiple severe burns all over. Though they've escaped life‑threatening danger, they're still highly susceptible to infection, and infection would be a problem."
"Xiao Yang, what's happening?" As the nurse was in a dilemma, a voice rose through the crowd.
The speaker was the attending physician of the burned couple.
"Doctor Liang, these police comrades want to enter the ward to ask the patients about the situation, and I haven't let them in," the nurse said, and upon seeing the attending physician arrive, she immediately explained the situation.
It is worth noting that Doctor Liang is the same doctor Xu Mo and Han Fei encountered in the hospital lobby, who had been tangled by the patient's relatives; had they not intervened, the doctor wouldn't have been able to leave for a while.
"Officer Xu, Police Officer, it's you... I thought the silhouette looked so familiar," the doctor said, then added to the nurse, "You go attend to your duties; I'm here."
Meeting a familiar face made things much easier, Han Fei smiled.
"Doctor Liang, we'll just go in and ask two questions, and leave immediately after; what do you think..."
Doctor Liang also showed a reluctant expression and shook his head: "I'm afraid that's not possible; the hospital has regulations."
The next second, his tone changed.
"But... what questions do you want to ask the patients? I can go in on your behalf and ask."
Normally, Doctor Liang would never take on this trouble, but now, since Han Fei and Xu Mo just helped him get rid of the relatives harassing him in the lobby, he is more than willing to return the favor.
"The case details are confidential; we still want to go in ourselves," Han Fei shook his head and asked, "Really can't let us in?"
Doctor Liang looked somewhat troubled.
He wanted to repay their favor, yet he also feared that letting them in might cause the patients to become infected again.
At this moment, the two patients had just been off the operating table, only recently escaped danger, bearing severe burns; they can only stay in the Sterile Ward for now and must remain there for a period before being transferred. Any external bacteria could be fatal to them, and aside from fully disinfected medical staff, no one else should be allowed inside.
Suddenly, Doctor Liang thought of a solution.
"Entering isn't impossible, but before going in you must disinfect, change into sterile clothing, and only one person can enter."
That was the greatest concession he could make.
Han Fei nodded without hesitation: "Fine!"
Then he looked at Xu Mo, "Team Leader Xu, you go in."
Xu Mo gave a slight nod.
Doctor Liang led Xu Mo into the Sterile Ward.
Inside the ward there were two doors; behind the first door was a sealed small room containing a disinfection setup and a stack of sterile suits, which medical staff must pass through and change into before opening the second door to the ward.
Under Doctor Liang's guidance, Xu Mo underwent the disinfection procedure, put on a sterile suit, and placed his phone inside a pre‑sterilized transparent bag.
Doctor Liang, also wearing a sterile suit, walked through the second door together with Xu Mo.
"This is Officer Xu, here to investigate the case. He needs to ask you a few questions; please cooperate. If you feel any discomfort during the interview, ring the bell and call me immediately."
After introducing Officer Xu's identity to the patient lying in the bed, Doctor Liang nodded at Xu Mo, then exited through the second door and stayed in the disinfection area outside, ready to monitor in case the patient's emotions cause issues during questioning.
After Police Officer Liang left, Xu Mo opened his phone through the sterilized transparent bag, retrieved the copied surveillance clip, and handed it to the woman lying in the bed.
"The person who set fire to the Music Shop is this one; do you recognize her?"
Wrapped in bandages and wearing an oxygen mask, the very weak woman glanced at her phone, then her eyes widened sharply, as if she had discovered something utterly incomprehensible…
