Chapter 227: Making a Huge Scene

~10 min read 1,805 words

Yu Sheng spent a long time before he could calm the squirrel down again.

At the same time, he finally felt he understood what was going on with the underlying chaos of this strange "Fairy Tale" realm.

The children's wild imagination, the "Dark Angel's" misinterpretation of human stories, and the generations of "Fairy Tale" members who, after falling into subsets, modified the "stage"—these three factors combined, along with eighty-six years of accumulation and distortion, ultimately formed the "Fairy Tale" system that is now so bizarre and twisted it cannot be worse.

Now, this massive collection of distorted stories has become like a bloated, proliferating mass of flesh, on the verge of total collapse and rupture—and Ankaela's "child" is about to be born from this growth.

The friction of growing trees and the low rumble from deep within the earth echoed through the Black Forest. Yu Sheng put away the stack of sorted "Fairy Tale" fragments, stuffing them into his clothes, then slowly rose, one hand gripping the bullet that constantly radiated heat, the other holding his weapon, moving cautiously.

Erin sat on his shoulder, while the squirrel, at some unknown moment, had run into Erin's arms.

Hu Li stood nearby, the fluff on his ears slightly bristling, his nerves taut: "Benefactor... the atmosphere around us has changed..."

Yu Sheng did not speak, only looking up at the sky.

The fragments that originally belonged to the orphanage's structure had completely vanished from his sight. His gaze passed directly through the gaps in the canopy, seeing a hazy, chaotic twilight that was clearly not the sky of the Borderlands.

The faint light of twilight filtered through the forest, casting mottled shadows among the tall trees. A blurred howl came from the distance, sounding alternately far and near, as if an invisible encirclement was forming.

A slight rustling sound came from his body. Yu Sheng looked down and saw a layer of illusory "fabric" gradually covering his body.

It was the attire of a "Hunter."

This set of hunting gear he had once worn was reappearing on him.

Yu Sheng was briefly surprised, then quickly understood what this meant—

The subset was sealing shut. The "Fairy Tale" stage was completely replacing the reality here. Within the walls of the orphanage, the power of "reality" had completely faded. He must have fallen entirely into the side of the Black Forest.

"The depth is at least L-3..."

Recalling the knowledge he had seen in the database, Yu Sheng muttered softly.

Hu Li, standing nearby, watched Yu Sheng's transformation with surprise, his eyes wide open: "Benefactor! You... your clothes..."

Yu Sheng smiled and said casually, "I obtained a 'identity' in the Black Forest. Don't worry."

As he spoke, he raised his head and looked into the depths of the forest.

The boundless dense forest began to flicker in his vision. From the "Hunter's" perspective, the true paths within the forest were gradually becoming clear.

And in the far depths of the dense forest, he saw that massive fissure once again—like a split scar, the fissure stood upon the earth, with tiny tendrils writhing along its edges like some living creature.

But appearing around them even before that fissure were countless wolves.

Wolves of all sizes, ferocious and grotesque, radiating immense killing intent and malice, emerged from the shadows. They gathered into a hair-raising pack against the constantly flickering forest backdrop. Some were merely phantoms the size of ordinary wild wolves, others were more than twice the size of their kin, and some even stood upright like humans, hunching their bodies, their eyes in the shadows emitting hungry green light.

"Holy crap—" Erin burst out upon seeing this scene, "There are actually so many of them?!"

"This is the 'immune' mechanism of the Black Forest as a 'realm'," Yu Sheng's expression remained calm as he slowly tightened his grip on the weapon in his hand, "Because we are doing something out of line—the forest has reacted."

The wolf pack began to approach. The nearest wolf lowered its body slightly, assuming a pouncing posture.

"Hu Li."

"Ah, here!"

"Just cause some chaos."

"Okay!"

The next second, ghostly blue fox fire turned into a barrage sweeping outward. A fierce crossfire network, like a cruel whip of death, lashed out at the surrounding wolf pack. The evil wolves howled, launching fierce attacks at the same time the fox fire barrage swept over them.

A grandest fireworks display was thus ignited in this flickering forest.

Fox fire rose, tearing and scorching the surrounding air. Evil wolves roared, surging forward like an endless tide. Yu Sheng took a step forward, walking toward the fissure standing in the center of the "stage." With each step he took, the forest seemed to suffer a violent impact, shaking in waves. Meanwhile, even more numerous and grotesque wolves constantly sprang forth from the nearby air and the shadows between the trees, pouncing on the "invaders" who were disrupting the order of this stage.

Erin grabbed Yu Sheng's hair with one hand and held the squirrel in her arms with the other, unable to help shouting loudly: "When do I get to act?! This looks like we can't win!"

Yu Sheng swung the Break-Tetanus Staff in his hand and smashed it down hard, snapping an evil wolf lunging at him in half at the waist: "Don't worry about this side for now—focus your attention on the Shelter Wasteland!"

"Ah... okay!"

The little doll hurriedly agreed. Yu Sheng's peripheral vision saw a giant tree not far away suddenly shake. Immediately, the branches of that tree began to droop, and the trunk surface wrinkled and deformed. It actually grew sharp teeth, claws, and fur like steel needles, hunching over to transform into an evil wolf, raising its upper body and letting out a roar toward this side—

The next second, a silver-white fox tail emitting blue propulsion flames whistled into the mouth of this twisted giant wolf, blowing its roar and itself into a huge mushroom cloud. Three more sharp sounds of breaking the air followed. Several Fox-Radish Missiles tore through the sky of the Black Forest, bombing the wolf pack that was constantly appearing and gathering in the distance.

Watching the scene of explosion clouds constantly rising in the distance, Yu Sheng couldn't help but grin: "I always said it's stupid for monsters to strike a pose and roar before attacking! By the time they finish that one roar, missiles are already stuffed down their throats..."

Before he finished speaking, he saw another pitch-black wolf break through the crossfire network formed by the Fox-Cannons, lunging fiercely at the blind spot by his side. Amidst the squirrel's screams, Yu Sheng shouted "Holy crap," quickly turned to dodge and raised the "Reason" in his hand, which flashed with cold light. But just before he swung, another black shadow suddenly rushed out from the side, fiercely tackling that pitch-black evil wolf. Then several shadows swarmed up, instantly tearing that evil wolf to pieces.

Yu Sheng turned back and saw a girl in red clothes emerging from the nearby shadows, accompanied by a shadowy pack of wolves.

"You're finally here," Yu Sheng immediately breathed a sigh of relief. "I was thinking, with all this fighting going on and you still not appearing, something must have happened..."

"Why do you make such a huge fuss every time!" Little Red Riding Hood's voice sounded somewhat flustered and angry. "Can't you do something high-tech like stealth? The Black Forest is for stealth! My stage isn't some brute, crazy stage like Bai Xue and her crazy stepmother!"

"I don't want to either—didn't I fail before I could even take the first step?!"

"Ahhh—whatever!" Little Red Riding Hood kicked up, sending a wolf charging from the side flying with a single kick. "Tell me what to do next—I just got in and I'm still confused!"

Yu Sheng pointed his finger toward the fissure in the distance while his steps did not stop: "In that direction, clear a path."

Little Red Riding Hood looked up in the direction Yu Sheng pointed, but besides the endlessly repeating forest, she saw nothing.

No mistake, one sentence, one release, one content, one inside, one look!

But she asked nothing, only nodded, then raised her hands high.

"Let me tell you—I almost never used this move before!" the girl said viciously. "If Dr. Lin found out, she could scold me all day!"

Shadows spread out beneath her feet, beginning to rise and fall as if they had substance, writhing, gradually covering hundreds of meters in all directions, and even slowly eroding into the half-air, darkening the surrounding air.

"But it doesn't matter—after all, I'm about to turn eighteen. Either this matter gets resolved today, or this is the last time!"

In the shadows, in the air, countless shadowy wolves emerged, and countless restless illusions solidified into physical forms.

The coat Little Red Riding Hood wore had, at some unknown moment, turned into a cloak, as red as blood, billowing in the wind.

She smiled, a dim light flickering in her eyes.

She opened her mouth, and her voice seemed to be mixed with the sound of wolves.

"Awooo—"

Thus, Little Red Riding Hood's true wolf pack appeared.

Every single wolf she had ever seen.

Every wolf she had ever fought.

Every wolf she had ever killed.

All appeared beneath her cloak, in the shadows beside her, and in the air around her with that single howl.

In an extremely short time, the wolves charging out of the shadows even outnumbered the wolf pack in the Black Forest within a small area.

"It's time to hunt!"

The girl in the red cloak, riding atop the strongest wolf, raised her arm high; her cheeks were already covered in fine down, her eyes had taken on a wolf-like shape, and her voice mingled with the howls of the surrounding wolves—

"Charge!"

The wolf pack began their charge, slaughtering another wolf pack.

The Black Forest became a battlefield where evil wolves tore each other apart.

They were everywhere.

Hu Li also charged out; after receiving Yu Sheng's order to "cause maximum chaos," she plunged directly into the densest part of the wolf pack and then rolled in place.

The nine-tailed demon fox, large enough to equal two vans, slowly rose amidst a magnificent display of light and shadow; with a sweep of her tail, a sea of ghostly blue fire erupted.

Little Red Riding Hood, riding on the wolf's back, stared blankly at the demon fox, which had already begun frolicking, rolling, charging wildly, and tearing apart evil wolves everywhere; only after a long while did she turn her head to look at Yu Sheng.

"She can still transform like this?"

"Didn't I tell you?" Yu Sheng grinned. "When she really goes wild, the commotion is huge..."
