Chapter 26: The Mayor's Son
When he heard Su Xueyan's question, Jiang Feng didn't answer directly, but said seriously, "Xue Yan, I'm sorry."
Su Xueyan was startled for a moment and asked, "Why are you apologizing?"
"I previously thought the Mystic Warm Jade Marrow could force out more Cold Poison for you, but I didn't expect that poison to be so entangled with your fate; I underestimated how tricky this Cold Poison is."
Jiang Feng's eyes carried guilt.
"But rest assured, the Cold Poison has already been reduced by thirty percent by the Mystic Warm Jade Marrow, so it won't flare up in the short term; once we find the one who seeded the poison, I will help you eradicate it completely."
Su Xueyan looked at his earnest expression, felt warmth in her heart, and smiled, "I never blamed you; I should be thanking you. If it weren't for you, this Cold Poison backlash might have been dangerous. And you've already cut thirty percent of the poison, so I'm already very satisfied."
She paused, then suddenly seemed to recall something important and asked immediately.
"By the way! When I was a child, I think I really met a strange aunt! She wore a long black dress, her hair down to her waist, covering half her face, and told me she'd take me to a place that wouldn't be cold. I never saw her again."
Su Xueyan frowned as she recalled, her tone tinged with lingering fear.
"Now that I think of it, when she spoke I always felt my whole body go cold, exactly like a Cold Poison outbreak! Could it be... that she planted the poison in me?"
"Most likely it's her."
Jiang Feng nodded, his gaze turning icy.
"She didn't force you then; the Cold Poison wasn't ready yet. But that's fine—if she dares to appear again, I will definitely catch her, and then the poison can be completely resolved."
Su Xueyan looked at his steadfast eyes and instantly felt a warm glow inside.
Then she suddenly pointed at the mall ahead.
"By the way, Jiang Feng! You were in the City Defense Office for so long earlier; my mother once said places like the Interrogation Room attract bad luck, so I'll take you to buy some new clothes!"
"Consider it... consider it a gift from me thanking you for curing my Cold Poison!"
Jiang Feng didn't want to go, but he couldn't resist Su Xueyan's constant pulling, so he went along.
The car stopped at the mall entrance, and the two walked into a high-end menswear shop.
The attendant, upon seeing Su Xueyan, immediately greeted her warmly.
"Miss Su, you're here! Is this gentleman your friend? What style of clothing would you like to see?"
"Hmm, pick a well-fitted suit for him."
Su Xueyan led Jiang Feng to the suit section, picked up a dark gray jacket, and held it up against Jiang Feng.
"The cut's good; try it on."
Jiang Feng entered the fitting room, changed, and when he emerged, even the attendant's eyes lit up.
"Sir, your figure is excellent; this suit fits you as if tailor-made!"
Su Xueyan also smiled, her eyes curving into crescents.
"Looks great! This one! Pair it with a light blue shirt, it'll match perfectly!"
At that moment, a slightly surprised voice came from behind.
"Xue Yan? Why are you here?"
The two turned around and saw a man in a white casual suit walking over.
His hair was impeccably styled, and he carried a luxury shopping bag; it was Su Xueyan's university classmate Wang Feng.
Wang Feng's background was unusual; when he and Su Xueyan studied in the Provincial Capital, he constantly pursued her.
Later, Wang Feng's father rose to become Mayor of Jiang City, and Wang Feng came along.
Wang Feng's gaze fell on Jiang Feng, his eyes scrutinizing.
"Xue Yan, who is this?"
Su Xueyan immediately grabbed Jiang Feng's hand: "He's my fiancé, Jiang Feng."
"Jiang Feng, this is my university classmate, Wang Feng."
"Fiancé?"
At those words, Wang Feng's smile froze, and the shopping bag nearly fell to the ground.
He looked at Jiang Feng in disbelief, then at Su Xueyan.
"Xue Yan, are you kidding me? How could you pick... a fiancé who looks so ordinary? What does he do? I've never heard that name before."
He said it loudly, and the surrounding customers and staff looked over curiously.
Jiang Feng looked at Wang Feng's awkwardness, his tone even.
"I have no notable background, just came down from the mountain, currently unemployed. But whether I'm Xue Yan's fiancé has nothing to do with you, Mr. Wang, right?"
"Unemployed? Coming down from the mountain?"
Wang Feng seemed to hear the biggest joke and couldn't help laughing out loud.
"Xue Yan, snap out of it! You're the Su family's heiress; how could you be engaged to such an unemployed drifter? He's definitely deceiving you—either after your money or the Su family's resources!"
Su Xueyan's complexion darkened instantly, her tone icy.
"Wang Feng! Don't go too far with your words! I know Jiang Feng better than you—he saved my life and is my lover; I don't want you saying anything that harms him in the future."
Wang Feng's face flushed red and white from Su Xueyan's rebuke, feeling both angry and jealous.
He pointed at Jiang Feng and said, "Xue Yan, you were fooled by him! How could an unemployed drifter possibly save your life?"
"If you don't believe it, I'll call my father right now and have him check this person's background to see if he's a fraud!"
Jiang Feng stepped forward, blocking Su Xueyan, his gaze turning cold.
"Whether I'm a fraud, Xue Yan knows that herself. Mr. Wang, we still have clothes to choose, so please move aside and don't block the way."
His gaze wasn't fierce, but carried an undeniable pressure that made Wang Feng feel inexplicably uneasy, and he instinctively stepped back.
But he quickly recovered, realizing he had been intimidated by an unemployed drifter, feeling embarrassed and wanting to step forward to argue.
Su Xueyan quickly grabbed Jiang Feng's hand and said to Wang Feng, "Wang Feng, we don't want to argue with you; if you have nothing to do, please leave and don't affect our shopping here."
Wang Feng watched Su Xueyan defending Jiang Feng, his jealousy burning inside.
But seeing Jiang Feng's tall, imposing build, he knew he wasn't someone to pick a fight with; if he acted, he'd likely suffer.
He thought for a moment, then let out a cold hum: "Fine, I'm leaving! But Xue Yan, you'll regret this sooner or later! Being with people like that will only lower your status!"
After speaking, he glared fiercely at Jiang Feng, then turned and stormed away.
Watching Wang Feng walk away, Su Xueyan finally breathed a sigh of relief and whispered while holding Jiang Feng's hand.
"Jiang Feng, don't compare yourself with him; that's just his way—always thinking his family background is superior and looking down on others."
Jiang Feng Laughter: "I'm not taking it to heart. However, you just said I'm your fiancé…"
Su Xueyan's cheeks flushed instantly; she quickly turned her head aside, picked up the shirt beside her, and handed it to him.
"Ah, I just don't want Wang Feng to cling to me any more! Quickly try this shirt and see if it fits!"
Jiang Feng watched her shy demeanor, Mouth corner couldn't help but lift, took the shirt and walked into the fitting room.
Meanwhile, outside, Wang Feng, growing angrier as he walked out the door, immediately made a phone call.
"Hello, Black Tiger? Send two people over; I need to deal with a stinky kid!"
