Chapter 511: Jiang Yan Ambushed!
When Jiang Feng returned to the Su family residence, it was already late at night.
He had thought everyone in the Su family would already be asleep, but upon returning he saw the Su household brightly lit.
Jiang Feng's heart stirred; he wondered if Su Xueyan had come back.
As soon as that thought arose, a feeling of anticipation welled up in him that he could not quite put into words.
He quickened his steps, pushed open the door, and walked into the living room.
The sight in the living room made his smile falter slightly.
Su Lao sat on the sofa, wearing a gray house robe and holding a cup of tea.
Ma Jian sat beside Su Lao, his back ramrod straight.
Even more surprising to Jiang Feng was that Jiang Yan was also sitting in the living room.
She sat beside Ma Jian, wearing a light-colored windbreaker, her hair tied back, light makeup on her face, but she looked somewhat fatigued, with a faint bluish tint under her eyes.
At that moment, Su Lao was talking with Jiang Yan.
Seeing Jiang Feng enter, Jiang Yan immediately stood up and gave him a smile.
"Mr. Jiang, sorry for disturbing you so late!"
Her voice was gentle, but her tone carried a hint of apology.
Jiang Feng was taken aback, walked to the side of the sofa, sat down beside Su Lao, and looked at Jiang Yan.
"Professor Jiang, why did you come to see me so late?"
His gaze swept over Jiang Yan's face, then flicked to Ma Jian.
Ma Jian gave him a slight nod, saying nothing.
Jiang Yan smiled apologetically and said.
"It's because of those photos you showed me earlier; I wonder if it would be convenient for us to talk privately?"
Su Lao immediately spoke up, his voice gentle and tinged with understanding.
"Xiao Feng, go talk with Professor Jiang in the study; I'll stay here."
Jiang Feng nodded, stood up, and glanced at Jiang Yan.
"Let's go."
The two went upstairs and entered the study.
They sat facing each other, with a desk between them.
Jiang Feng looked at Jiang Yan, waiting for her to speak.
Jiang Yan took a deep breath, her expression turning serious.
"It's like this: lately at school I've constantly felt like someone is following me."
She lowered her voice, as if speaking of something very secret.
Jiang Feng's brow furrowed slightly, but he said nothing, waiting for her to continue.
Jiang Yan continued speaking, her speech a bit faster than usual, as if recalling something.
"Until today, a vehicle suddenly lunged in front of me, and several people got out trying to forcibly take me away."
Her face turned somewhat pale, her voice tinged with lingering fear.
"Fortunately, the bodyguards my uncle arranged rushed forward and clashed with those people."
Jiang Yan paused, her voice dropping even lower.
"But this group struck hard; those few bodyguards were either killed or left crippled…"
Hearing this, Jiang Feng's heart gave a sudden jolt.
His gaze grew grave as he fixed it on Jiang Yan and asked.
"Then what? How did you manage to get away?"
Jiang Yan gave a bitter laugh and said.
"Those bodyguards couldn't beat them, but they fought desperately to hold the attackers off, letting me escape first. I took advantage of the chaos and ran into the mall next to the school, slipping out through the back door."
She paused, then continued.
"I didn't dare go back to school or home, so I called Ma Jian; in the end he brought me to the Su family residence, saying I could meet you here."
Jiang Feng nodded. "That kid Ma Jian is getting more reliable by the day."
Jiang Yan looked at Jiang Feng's expression and said, astonished.
"The people who seized me also mentioned the matter of the mural photo."
Her voice carried a hint of doubt.
"I suspect it's because of this that they wanted to take me."
As soon as she said that, Jiang Feng instantly understood.
His eyes sharpened, and a thought flashed through his mind.
Jiang Feng looked at Jiang Yan, his expression turning very serious.
"Professor Jiang, did you show the photos I gave you to anyone else?"
His voice wasn't loud, but each word carried weight.
Upon hearing this, Jiang Yan first blinked, then seemed to consider it briefly before answering affirmatively.
"Yes."
"I brought the photos I couldn't translate to my teacher."
Jiang Feng's brows furrowed.
"Those characters are too ancient; I searched through many sources but found nothing. My teacher is an authority in the domestic field of ancient scripts, and I thought he might have a solution. So I brought a few photos to consult him."
She paused, lowered her head, and her voice dropped even lower.
"I never expected this to happen back then. I thought it was just an academic exchange, that there wouldn't be any problems."
Jiang Feng looked at her, silent for a moment.
He knew Jiang Yan hadn't meant it; she was just a scholar with a natural curiosity for those ancient texts.
She never imagined those photos would bring upon her a deadly disaster.
Jiang Feng sighed and said.
"Professor Jiang, I don't blame you."
"But this matter is far more complicated—and far more dangerous—than you imagine."
Jiang Yan raised her head, looked at Jiang Feng, her eyes full of doubt and unease.
"You mean..."
She didn't finish, but the meaning was already clear.
Who exactly are those people trying to capture her?
Jiang Feng looked at her and said calmly.
"I can't say exactly who they are yet, but one thing is certain: this is a very powerful faction."
Jiang Yan's face turned even paler.
Jiang Yan bit her lip and asked.
"What should I do then?"
Jiang Feng thought for a moment, then said.
"For now, don't go back to school or home. Stay at the Su family's place first—it's safe here."
Jiang Yan hesitated a moment, then asked.
"Does Grandpa Su agree?"
Jiang Feng said.
"The old master is easy to talk to, you can relax."
Jiang Yan nodded, saying nothing more.
Jiang Feng stood up and said.
"Let's go, head downstairs first. The old master is still waiting."
Jiang Yan followed, stood up, and the two went downstairs together.
In the living room, Su Lao and Ma Jian were still sitting.
Seeing Jiang Feng and Jiang Yan come down, Su Lao set down his teacup and asked.
"Finished talking?"
Jiang Feng nodded and sat down beside Su Lao.
"Grandpa, Professor Jiang has run into some trouble lately and needs to stay at our place for a few days."
Su Lao glanced at Jiang Yan, nodded, and said with a chuckle.
"You can stay as long as you need; we have plenty of empty rooms."
Jiang Yan quickly thanked him.
"Thank you, Grandpa Su."
Su Lao waved a hand and laughed.
"You're welcome, you're welcome. Since you're Xiao Feng's friend, you're a guest of the Su family."
Jiang Yan smiled, glanced at the time—it was already late.
"Grandpa Su, Mr. Jiang, I'll go rest now."
Su Lao nodded and said to Ma Jian.
"Ma Jian, take Professor Jiang to the guest room."
Ma Jian quickly stood up and made a gesturing invitation.
"Professor Jiang, this way please."
Jiang Yan followed Ma Jian upstairs, their footsteps fading away.
Only Jiang Feng and Su Lao remained in the living room.
Su Lao looked at Jiang Feng and asked.
"What happened?"
Jiang Feng was silent for a moment, then said.
"Someone might be targeting me… Professor Jiang is also implicated because of me."
Su Lao's brows furrowed.
Then he sighed and patted Jiang Feng's shoulder.
"Be careful; if you need any help, just say the word…"
Just as the grandfather and grandson were chatting, a voice suddenly came from outside the door.
"Is Mr. Su in?"
