Chapter 512: Are you my niece's boyfriend?
Hearing the sound, Jiang Feng immediately became alert.
In the middle of the night, who would come to the Su residence?
His gaze turned sharp, his body slightly tensed, ready to strike at any moment.
However, he subconsciously released his divine sense and swept it outside the door.
Soon, Jiang Feng relaxed.
The person outside had not a trace of martial aura; his breath was steady, his steps floating.
His energy fluctuations were no different from an ordinary person's; he seemed to be just an ordinary person.
Su Lao looked at Jiang Feng with a doubtful gaze, his eyes carrying a hint of inquiry.
Jiang Feng slightly shook his head at Su Lao, indicating he needn't worry, then stepped forward and opened the door.
As the door opened, a man stood at the doorway.
The man was about fifty, wearing a dark Zhongshan suit, his hair neatly combed, his face showing the fatigue of travel.
He was of medium build, neither fat nor thin, with regular features, giving off an official aura.
Seeing Jiang Feng, the man first startled, then sized him up from head to toe, his eyes carrying a hint of scrutiny.
But soon he withdrew his gaze and politely asked.
"Excuse me, is this the Su residence?"
His voice was calm, with a touch of politeness.
Jiang Feng nodded.
"Yes."
Upon hearing this, the man immediately introduced himself, his tone carrying a hint of apology.
"I'm really sorry for the disturbance; I am Xu Yansong, Governor of Jiangnan Province."
Jiang Feng first startled.
Xu Yansong?
Isn't he the top official of Jiangnan Province, the one whose word is law throughout the province?
And isn't Xu Yansong the uncle of Jiang Yan?
Could he have come because of Jiang Yan's matter?
Thinking this, Jiang Feng felt much more at ease. Since he's Jiang Yan's uncle, he shouldn't be an enemy.
Thus, Jiang Feng politely stepped aside and said.
"Governor Xu, please come in and speak."
Xu Yansong nodded and followed Jiang Feng inside.
The two passed through the foyer and entered the living room.
Su Lao had been sitting on the sofa; seeing Xu Yansong enter, he quickly rose to his feet.
Su Lao had previously been the chairman of the Jiangcheng Chamber of Commerce, having spent decades navigating the Jiangcheng business circle, often attending provincial meetings and interacting with many provincial officials.
Naturally, he knew this provincial government bigwig.
Seeing Xu Yansong enter the house, Su Lao immediately stepped forward, his attitude respectful, his tone carrying a hint of politeness.
"Governor Xu's gracious visit is truly an honor for our Su family."
He made a gesture of invitation.
"Please, Governor Xu, have a seat."
Xu Yansong waved his hand and laughed.
"Su Lao, you're too polite; it's I who disturbed you in the middle of the night."
After exchanging a few pleasantries, Xu Yansong sat down on the sofa.
Su Lao poured him a cup of tea and brought it over.
"Governor Xu, please have some tea."
Xu Yansong took the teacup, took a sip, and set it down.
He was about to speak when his gaze unintentionally swept over the stairwell, and his whole body suddenly froze.
On the stairs, Jiang Yan was coming down from upstairs.
She had changed into loungewear, her hair loose, looking as if she were about to sleep, but hearing the commotion downstairs, she came down to see.
Jiang Yan saw Xu Yansong and was also startled.
Her steps paused for a moment, and her face showed an expression of surprise.
"Uncle? How did you come here?"
Xu Yansong's mouth opened, his eyes full of surprise.
He looked at Jiang Yan, then at Jiang Feng, then at Su Lao, his mind in utter chaos.
He never expected to see his niece here.
Xu Yansong rose, quickly walked to Jiang Yan, looked her over to confirm she wasn't injured, and then breathed a sigh of relief.
Then his expression turned stern, his voice carrying a hint of reproach.
"Yanyan, why are you here?"
His tone was urgent.
"You didn't come home late at night, didn't answer your phone—I've been searching everywhere for you, I'm almost dying of worry!"
Jiang Yan lowered her head, feeling somewhat guilty.
"Uncle, my phone ran out of battery…"
Xu Yansong sighed, his tone softening a bit.
What exactly happened? The bodyguard said you were attacked and ran away. I was worried sick, I sent people everywhere to look for you, but after several hours they still couldn't find you.
Xu Yansong said, glancing at Jiang Feng and Su Lao.
"Good thing you're okay."
Jiang Yan bit her lip, looking at Xu Yansong, wanting to speak but hesitating.
Xu Yansong looked at her and asked.
"What on earth is going on? Who are those people? Why did they try to capture you?"
Jiang Yan's eyes rolled, suddenly as if she thought of something, a smile appeared on her face.
She didn't answer Xu Yansong's question, but instead spoke directly, her tone carrying a hint of coquettishness.
"Uncle, Jiang Feng and I are lovers; tonight I want to stay here!"
As soon as she said that, not only Xu Yansong but also Jiang Feng was stunned.
Jiang Feng's brows furrowed slightly, a flash of surprise crossing his eyes.
He opened his mouth, wanting to explain, saying Jiang Yan was joking, saying they were just ordinary friends.
He had just opened his mouth, before he could speak, he felt a sharp gaze shoot over.
Xu Yansong turned his head angrily, glaring fiercely at Jiang Feng, his eyes full of anger.
His face flushed red, the veins on his forehead throbbing, his voice changed tone.
"Are you my niece's boyfriend???"
Xu Yansong's voice was loud, echoing in the living room.
His finger pointed at Jiang Feng, his fingers trembling.
"When did this happen? How come I didn't know?"
Jiang Feng looked at Xu Yansong, his expression calm, saying nothing.
His mind raced, thinking about how to explain.
Was Jiang Yan helping him, or harming him?
Jiang Yan stood aside, seeing her uncle angry, not afraid, instead she happily linked arms with Xu Yansong.
"Uncle, don't be so fierce. Jiang Feng is a very good person, and he's good to me too."
Xu Yansong was so angry his nose twisted.
"What's so good about it? You've only known him a short while—do you even know what kind of person he is?"
His voice was loud, carrying a hint of frustration at failing to mold her.
"You're a girl, staying at someone else's house late at night—what would people say if it got out?"
Jiang Yan pouted and said.
"Uncle, I'm already in my twenties, not a child anymore. I can decide my own affairs."
Xu Yansong was momentarily speechless, opening his mouth but unable to speak.
He glanced at Jiang Yan, then at Jiang Feng, his face flushing red then white, finally taking a deep breath.
He walked over to the sofa, sat down again, lifted his tea cup and took a big gulp, as if to suppress his anger.
Su Lao stood aside, watching the scene, not knowing what to say.
Jiang Feng also walked to the sofa, sat down, and looked at Xu Yansong, his expression calm.
The atmosphere in the living room was somewhat subtle.
Xu Yansong put down his tea cup, looking at Jiang Feng, his eyes full of scrutiny.
"Mr. Jiang, you and Yan Yan... are you really lovers?"
Jiang Feng fell silent for a moment, about to speak to deny it.
Jiang Yan spoke first.
"Uncle, of course it's true. Otherwise why would I run to his house in the middle of the night?"
Xu Yansong's brows knitted tightly, looking at Jiang Feng, his eyes full of suspicion.
"Mr. Jiang, you speak."
Jiang Feng looked at Jiang Yan; Jiang Yan gave him a look, her eyes filled with a hint of pleading.
He thought for a moment, but still decided to go along with Jiang Yan.
After all, Jiang Yan got involved and put in danger because of his affairs.
Helping her out is also the right thing to do.
Anyway, he wasn't playing the shield for the first time!
Jiang Feng nodded slightly, saying lightly.
"Yes."
As soon as those two words came out, Xu Yansong's face looked even worse.
