Chapter 65: I Won

~7 min read 1,301 words

Jiang Feng left Third Middle School and headed straight for Jishi Hall.

After parking the car and pushing open the door, Jiang Feng saw a stranger girl standing behind the counter.

The girl looked about eighteen or nineteen, had a high ponytail with slightly curled ends, wore a light‑blue casual sweatshirt, jeans, and white sneakers.

She held a small tweezer, stood on tiptoe, and plucked a piece of angelica root from the top shelf of the medicine cabinet.

Hearing the door open, the girl whirled around, saw Jiang Feng, showed no panic, and instead curiously examined him.

Jiang Feng was also startled.

This girl looked unfamiliar, not like a regular patron; could she be here to pick up medicine?

Speaking of Hua Lao, why hasn't he arrived at the Medical Hall yet, so late?

Fearing he might neglect a customer, Jiang Feng quickened his pace and stepped forward.

"Hello, I am the Resident Doctor Jiang Feng here."

"Are you here to pick up medicine or to see a doctor? If it's medicine, just give me the prescription; if it's a consultation, have a seat and I'll examine you."

The girl gave no reply, hands clasped behind her back, circled the counter, inspected Jiang Feng from head to toe, and a sly smile tugged at the corner of her mouth.

"So you're Doctor Jiang, I heard your medical skill is outstanding? Really? It can't be a trick, can it?"

Hearing her doubt, Jiang Feng merely smiled, "Whether I'm outstanding or not, I'll find out when I examine you…"

"Alright then! Show me then…"

"Where do you feel unwell?"

She said nothing, only playfully blinked.

Then she suddenly extended her right hand and placed it before Jiang Feng.

"Since your medical skill is so great, just take my pulse directly and see what ailment I have…"

Jiang Feng looked at the hand before him and instantly realized it was a test.

He didn't hesitate; his fingertips rested on the girl's wrist.

The moment his fingertips touched, Jiang Feng felt a thin, weak pulse.

Though relatively steady, it faintly carried a sluggishness, clearly indicating poor spleen‑stomach transformation.

After about half a minute of pulse‑taking, Jiang Feng withdrew his hand and said truthfully.

"Do you often eat raw or cold foods? Your spleen‑stomach is a bit weak, its transformation is poor, so you may occasionally feel bloating and acid reflux, right?"

The girl's eyes widened roundly, then she smiled even brighter.

"Doctor Jiang, are you certain my stomach has a problem?"

Jiang Feng was about to speak when a familiar voice came from the doorway.

"Yingying! Why are you running so fast? Grandfather just went to buy breakfast and you're already here!"

Jiang Feng turned and saw Hua Lao carrying a breakfast bag as he entered.

Seeing Jiang Feng, he quickly smiled and said.

"Jiang Feng, you're here! Perfect, let me introduce you: this is my granddaughter, Hua Yingying, who just returned from a vacation in the Provincial Capital and insisted on coming to the Medical Hall with me."

"Grandfather!"

Hua Yingying ran over, looped her arm around Hua Lao's, and cooed.

"I just wanted to meet the successor you chose for the Medical Hall early."

"You, you're just that way—too carefree…"

Hua Lao patted her hand, his face full of smiles toward Jiang Feng.

"Jiang Feng, sorry to make you look foolish. This girl has been handling herbs with me since she was little, knows a bit of the basics, but she's too restless to sit still."

Jiang Feng then understood she was Hua Lao's granddaughter, no wonder she dared to fiddle with the herbs in the Medical Hall.

He smiled and nodded, "Yingying is quite clever; she even asked me to take her pulse earlier."

"Take pulse?"

Hua Lao was momentarily stunned, looked at Hua Yingying, "Are you feeling unwell? Why didn't you tell grandpa?"

"I'm not feeling unwell!"

Hua Yingying waved her hand and made a funny face at Jiang Feng.

"I just wanted to test Brother Jiang Feng's medical skill, and… Brother Jiang Feng seems to have misdiagnosed!"

"How could Jiang Feng misdiagnose?"

Hua Lao suddenly became nervous, hurried to Jiang Feng's side.

"Jiang Feng, what's going on? What exactly is wrong with Yingying's body?"

Hua Lao's face was full of tension.

His son and daughter‑in‑law both live abroad, and only his granddaughter Hua Yingying can occasionally keep him company for a few days.

Therefore he cherishes this granddaughter especially.

Upon hearing his granddaughter was ill, especially since Jiang Feng had diagnosed it, he naturally became extra nervous.

Jiang Feng calmly explained, "Hua Lao, Yingying's pulse indicates spleen‑stomach transformation disorder."

Hua Yingying, unhurried, still smiled brightly as she said.

"However, Brother Jiang Feng, I just had a full physical exam at a major hospital in the Provincial Capital last week, and the exam showed I have no stomach disease!"

She continued, pulling out her phone from her pocket, flipping through the physical exam report photo and handing it over.

"Look! This is the exam sheet; such precise instruments can't be wrong, right?"

Hua Lao leaned over to glance at the phone.

He frowned, looked at Jiang Feng, then at Hua Yingying, feeling conflicted.

"How about… I take Yingying's pulse again?"

Hua Lao hesitated before speaking; he still felt a bit uneasy.

After all, he had seen Jiang Feng's medical skill, but a physical exam report couldn't be forged.

"Fine! Grandpa, you quickly hand it over, let Brother Jiang Feng have a look; he's the one who made the mistake!"

Hua Yingying immediately stretched her hand in front of Hua Lao, and deliberately raised an eyebrow at Jiang Feng.

Hua Lao became serious, his finger resting on Hua Yingying's wrist, Fingers gently pressing, eyes half‑closed, carefully feeling the pulse.

The Medical Hall fell silent in an instant.

Hua Yingying also put away her playful grin and waited obediently.

After a full minute, Hua Lao slowly withdrew his hand, his brows furrowing even tighter.

"Strange, the pulse I felt was indeed steady; I saw no signs of a Weak spleen and stomach… Could it really be that you, Jiang Feng, just now…"

"Grandpa! Look! I told you Brother Jiang Feng was wrong!"

Hua Yingying suddenly jumped up, slapped the counter, and raised her voice a few notes.

"I said my health is excellent; where could a stomach ailment be? Doctor Jiang, your performance disappoints me."

Jiang Feng, however, still held firmly to his view.

"I didn't make a mistake. Yingying, do you sometimes feel chest tightness after eating raw or cold foods, or feel a bloated stomach after dinner that requires a long walk to settle? You may have ignored these, but they are all signals of a Weak spleen and stomach."

When those words were spoken, the smile on Hua Yingying's face stiffened briefly, and her eyes flickered.

But soon, she still insisted that she had no problem.

"No! I can eat and then sleep with no issue! Brother Jiang Feng, stop always looking for my fault; I think you just don't want to admit you're wrong!"

Hua Lao watched the two of them at an impasse, not knowing whom to help, and could only sigh.

"Alright, alright, stop arguing. Yingying, you should eat fewer raw or cold foods in general."

"Jiang Feng, perhaps it's truly a misunderstanding, after all the physical exam report is here…"

He hadn't finished speaking when the door of the Medical Hall was suddenly pushed open with a bang, and a familiar voice entered with a mocking tone.

"Yo, such a commotion early in the morning—what's going on?"

The crowd turned, and saw Yang Wencheng strolling in slowly, a smug expression on his face.

"Yang Wencheng, what are you doing here again? You're not welcome here."

Seeing his old rival, Hua Lao clearly became even more displeased.
