Chapter 213: Descent into Darkness
Dazzling light struck Zhang Cheng like lightning. With a muffled grunt, his body was flung violently away like a kite with a severed string, crashing heavily onto the hard rocky ground. Blood spilled from the corner of his mouth, staining the front of his robes crimson. His face, already pale from severe injuries, was now completely drained of color.
"Zhang Cheng!" Xiao Dian's eyes were bloodshot with fury. He desperately tried to rush over, but was tightly entangled by the surging reinforcements of the Blood Night Demon Family. He swung his weapon, fighting with all his might, but two fists were no match for four hands. Watching Zhang Cheng collapse in a pool of blood, he was powerless to help.
"Hahaha! Truly, heaven is on my side!" The Envoy of the Blood Night Demon Family watched this scene and laughed aloud, his eyes gleaming with cruel excitement. "Kill them all! Leave no one alive!"
His order was like a death warrant. The reinforcements of the Blood Night Demon Family surged forward like a tide, surrounding Zhang Cheng and the others completely. Every one of them wore a ferocious expression, their eyes filled with bloodthirsty madness, their weapons glinting with cold light, as if they would tear everyone to pieces in the next second.
Mo Yi was also stunned by this sudden turn of events. He never imagined that the mysterious Elf would not only fail to help them, but would instead worsen Zhang Cheng's injuries. He roared furiously at the mysterious Elf, "Why did you do this?!"
However, the mysterious Elf turned a deaf ear to his questioning. She simply hovered silently in midair, coldly watching everything unfold, as if none of it had anything to do with her. Her eyes flickered with a complex light, making it impossible to fathom what she was thinking at this moment.
"Forget about her, find a way to break through first!" The Long Xing Sage's feeble voice rang out. He struggled to stand, but collapsed weakly to the ground. He knew that they had fallen into a desperate situation; if they did not find a way to break out, death was the only thing awaiting them.
He took a deep breath, forcibly suppressing the churning Qi and blood within him. His hands rapidly formed seals as he attempted to cast a spell once more, striving to secure a sliver of hope for everyone. However, he had already suffered severe injuries from blocking the Blood Night Demon Family's attacks earlier. Forcibly casting a spell now would undoubtedly make matters worse...
The Long Xing Sage's hands trembled, veins bulging. He murmured incantations under his breath, ancient spells chanting from his lips. The surrounding air seemed to solidify, and a powerful surge of energy rippled outward from him in all directions.
However, just as the spell was about to complete, the Long Xing Sage's expression suddenly changed. A metallic sweetness surged up his throat, and with a "ptoo," a mouthful of blood sprayed out. His already pale face turned even more ashen, his body trembling violently. The energy fluctuation that had been gathering also became chaotically unstable.
"Sage!" Xiao Dian cried out in alarm, wanting to go forward to check on his injuries, but was entangled by even more enemies.
"Don't worry about me! Go, quickly!" the Long Xing Sage shouted hoarsely, his voice intermittent, as if he would lose consciousness at any moment. "The spell's backlash... I... I already..."
Before he could finish speaking, he collapsed weakly to the ground. Blood stained the earth, intertwining with the bloodstains Zhang Cheng had left behind earlier—a horrifying sight.
"Damn it! You despicable cowards!" Seeing this, Mo Yi's eyes were bloodshot with fury. He struggled to stand, but the movement pulled at his wounds. Piercing pain made him let out a muffled grunt, his body swaying unsteadily.
"Still trying to resist? Lie down and behave!" A warrior of the Blood Night Demon Family saw this and charged forward with a sinister grin, the sharp blade in his hand carrying a fierce killing intent, thrusting straight at Mo Yi's chest.
"Mo Yi!" From afar, Xiao Dian saw this and burned with anxiety, but had no time to spare. He was surrounded by several warriors of the Blood Night Demon Family. They coordinated flawlessly, every strike ruthless, forcing him to retreat again and again.
"Pfft!" Mo Yi couldn't dodge in time. The blade slashed open his arm, and blood sprayed out, staining his robes crimson. With a muffled grunt, he staggered backward several steps before collapsing helplessly to the ground, his eyes filled with unwillingness and despair.
"Hahaha! This is the fate of those who oppose the Blood Night Demon Family!" The Envoy of the Blood Night Demon Family looked at the scene before him and laughed aloud, as if he had already seen the dawn of victory.
"You... you will regret this..." Mo Yi said through gritted teeth, his voice growing weaker and weaker, his consciousness beginning to blur.
"Regret? You stray dogs?" The Envoy of the Blood Night Demon Family scoffed disdainfully. "Kill them all! Leave no one alive!"
At his command, the warriors of the Blood Night Demon Family lunged at the fallen Mo Yi like mad dogs, their weapons raised high, about to hack him to death beneath a flurry of blades...
"Stop—" Xiao Dian's eyes were bloodshot with fury. He roared, desperately trying to rush over, but was blocked by even more enemies. He swung his weapon in despair, but outnumbered and gaining new wounds, his eyes revealed nothing but hopelessness...
In the distance, the mysterious Elf, who had been silent all along, had a glint of complex light flash through her eyes. She slowly raised her hand...
Xiao Dian swung the longsword in his hand, every stroke sending up a spray of blood. But the enemies he faced were simply too many; two fists were no match for four hands. His body was already covered in wounds large and small, blood staining his clothes crimson. Yet he still clenched his teeth and held on, refusing to fall. Because he still clung to a thread of hope in his heart—hope that Zhang Cheng could create a miracle, hope that they could escape with their lives. But as time passed, the light of hope grew ever dimmer, and the shadow of despair gradually enveloped him.
In the distance, Zhang Cheng's situation was equally grim. Under the mysterious Elf's interference, that Mysterious Power began to grow unstable. The once-endless stream of power drained from his body like a receding tide, and he felt waves of weakness and powerlessness. He did not know what had happened, but he could feel that he was losing this power, losing his last hope.
"Hahaha! It's useless! Your struggles are all in vain!" The Envoy of the Blood Night Demon Family looked at the scene before him and laughed triumphantly. "Give up! Accept your deaths obediently!"
As soon as he finished speaking, Zhang Cheng's body was wracked with intense pain. With a muffled grunt, he dropped to one knee, the longsword in his hand hanging powerlessly downward. He struggled to stand, but his body felt as though it had been filled with lead, impossibly heavy.
"Zhang Cheng!" Seeing this, Xiao Dian's eyes were bloodshot with fury. He fought to rush over, but was entangled by even more enemies. He roared in despair, to no avail.
"It's over!" The Envoy of the Blood Night Demon Family sneered and raised his weapon, thrusting toward Zhang Cheng's chest.
At this critical moment, a flash of green light streaked by, and a figure blocked Zhang Cheng's front.
"No!" Zhang Cheng's eyes widened as he recognized the person standing before him—it was the gravely injured Mo Yi.
"Go... quickly..." Mo Yi forced out these two words with difficulty, blood spilling from the corner of his mouth, staining his robes crimson.
"No..." Zhang Cheng wanted to say something, but could not utter a single word.
"I told you, all of you must die!" A trace of cruelty flashed through the Envoy of the Blood Night Demon Family's eyes, and his weapon plunged into Mo Yi's chest without the slightest hesitation.
"Mo Yi!" Zhang Cheng let out a heart-rending roar, his eyes filled with bloodshot veins.
"Hahaha! This is the fate of betraying the Blood Night Demon Family!" The Envoy of the Blood Night Demon Family laughed wildly as he withdrew his weapon. Blood splattered, and Mo Yi's body collapsed limply, his eyes filled with unwillingness and regret. He tried hard to raise his hand, but it ultimately fell powerlessly.
"I want all of you... to be buried with him..." Zhang Cheng slowly climbed to his feet. His voice was hoarse and low, like a demon from hell. His eyes were filled with the flames of hatred, staring fixedly at the Envoy of the Blood Night Demon Family as he slowly raised the sword in his hand...
Blood stained the front of Mo Yi's robes. He struggled to breathe, but could only let out painful, ragged gasps. Zhang Cheng knelt beside him, watching helplessly as his life flickered out like a candle in the wind.
"Mo Yi!" Zhang Cheng's voice was hoarse and powerless. He desperately wanted to reach out and grasp Mo Yi's fading life, but he was powerless to do anything.
Xiao Dian was tightly entangled by several warriors of the Blood Night Demon Family. He fought with all his strength to break through the encirclement and reach Zhang Cheng's side, but every attack was mercilessly neutralized. He witnessed the moment Mo Yi fell with his own eyes. His eyes were bloodshot with fury, grief and indignation intertwining, yet he could only let out roar after roar of unwilling rage.
"Hahaha, this is the fate of resisting the Blood Night Demon Family!" The Envoy of the Blood Night Demon Family laughed wildly, his eyes brimming with the joy of victory. "See? Your companions, your hopes, will all be ruthlessly crushed by us!"
Zhang Cheng slowly stood up, his body swaying unsteadily, as if he would collapse at any moment. The longsword in his hand had long been stained crimson with blood, yet he could not feel its weight at all. The determination of the past had vanished from his eyes, replaced by endless despair and sorrow.
"All of you... will pay the price..." Zhang Cheng's voice was as cold as if it came from the netherworld. His gaze was hollow and numb, like an empty shell that had lost its soul.
"Hahaha, you? A stray dog?" The Envoy of the Blood Night Demon Family mocked recklessly, not taking Zhang Cheng seriously at all.
Zhang Cheng's body trembled violently. He could feel the power within him rapidly draining away, and his consciousness began to blur. The world before his eyes started to distort, his ears filled with the sinister laughter of demons and the wails of his companions.
"It's over..." Zhang Cheng murmured to himself, letting the longsword in his hand drop powerlessly. Just as he was about to lose his last thread of consciousness, Kelinda's figure suddenly appeared in his mind. Her smile was so warm, her eyes so resolute.
"No! I can't give up!" Zhang Cheng suddenly raised his head, a glint of resolve flashing through his eyes. He struggled to steady his footing, but his body seemed to have lost all control, swaying unsteadily.
"Hahaha, give up! You've already lost!" The Envoy of the Blood Night Demon Family closed in step by step, the weapon in his hand glinting with cold light.
Zhang Cheng raised the longsword in his hand powerlessly, wanting to make one final resistance, but he had no strength left.
"Die!" The Envoy of the Blood Night Demon Family raised his weapon high and thrust viciously toward Zhang Cheng's chest...
At this critical moment...
