Chapter 212: Struggle in the Dire Situation

~8 min read 1,429 words

The black fissure opened in the void like a huge eye, and an unsettling aura spread rapidly. The Mysterious Elf froze, gave Zhang Cheng a deep look, her gaze complex, as if struggling with something.

"Damn it!" a low curse slipped from her mouth. She spun sharply, swept her sleeve at the black‑clad men again; this time the attack carried obvious rage, and the men didn't even have time to scream before turning into a puff of blood mist that vanished completely in the air.

"What exactly are you?" the Envoy of the Blood Night Demon Family asked, feeling the great power emanating from the Mysterious Elf, his tone now tinged with caution.

The Mysterious Elf ignored him, giving a cold glance that seemed to pierce his soul, making him feel as if he had fallen into an Ice Vault.

"Leave her alone, kill them! Slay them!" the Envoy of the Blood Night Demon Family, enraged, barked the order, then seized the chance to retreat, trying to widen the gap.

Without the Mysterious Elf's interference, the black‑clad men surged like a tide toward Zhang Cheng and his companions. Zhang Cheng fought back fiercely, his weapon turning into streaks of light, each swing taking a life.

Yet two fists could not match four hands, especially since the opponents were trained Blood Night Demon Family assassins. Zhang Cheng was already wounded in many places, blood staining his clothes, and the Mysterious Power that had surrounded him flickered erratically, as if disrupted, no longer able to offer effective protection.

"Hahaha, die!" the Envoy of the Blood Night Demon Family, seeing Zhang Cheng's stamina waning, flashed a vicious glint in his eyes and ordered again, "Attack with full force, leave none alive!"

The black‑clad men, receiving the command, attacked even more fiercely, each strike brutal and aimed at vital points. Zhang Cheng felt the pressure double, each defense becoming extraordinarily difficult.

"Zhang Cheng, be careful!" Long Xing Sage shouted, brandishing his staff, firing streams of energy beams at the enemies, sharing the pressure for Zhang Cheng.

"Hahaha, you ants think you can resist?" the Envoy of the Blood Night Demon Family laughed arrogantly, watching Zhang Cheng and the others struggle in vain, as if he already saw their end.

"Mo Yi, cover Zhang Cheng!" Xiao Dian roared, swinging his great axe with fierce vigor, repelling the approaching enemies one by one.

Mo Yi, hearing Xiao Dian's shout, rushed without hesitation to Zhang Cheng's front, blocking a lethal strike… Mo Yi's body crashed heavily at Zhang Cheng's feet, blood staining his silver armor. In that instant, the world seemed to freeze, Zhang Cheng stared blankly at the scene, his mind a void.

"Mo Yi!" Xiao Dian's roar ripped the brief silence; his eyes glowed crimson as he swung his great axe wildly toward the ambushing enemy, his overwhelming force pushing back surrounding foes, carving a bloody path.

"I will make you pay with your life!" Xiao Dian roared, his great axe slashing toward the enemy with mountain‑splitting force. The enemy clearly underestimated Xiao Dian's fury; in a hurried attempt to block with his sword, a crisp "crack!" sounded as his weapon snapped in two, yet Xiao Dian's axe, undiminished, struck him hard.

"Ah!" the enemy let out a wail, his body split in two, blood gushing out and splattering Xiao Dian.

"Mo Yi!" Xiao Dian fell to his knees beside Mo Yi, trembling as he tried to touch him, but feared the fatal wound.

"Cough… cough…" Mo Yi struggled to open his eyes, a strand of blood spilling from his mouth, "Don't… don't worry about me… hurry and go…"

"No, I won't abandon you!" Xiao Dian said, his eyes reddened.

"Run! If you don't leave now… it'll be too late!" Mo Yi grabbed Xiao Dian's hand, shouting with his last ounce of strength.

Xiao Dian tried to say more, but was cut off by the surging enemies around him.

"Kill them, leave none!"

"Avenge my second brother!"

……

The enemies surged like a tide, encircling Xiao Dian and Mo Yi. Xiao Dian swung his great axe, desperately defending against the attacks, but he was outmatched, and soon sustained several more wounds.

"Xiao Dian, run! Don't worry about me!" Mo Yi shouted again, his voice weak, as if he could die at any moment.

"Hahaha, now you want to run, too late!" the Envoy of the Blood Night Demon Family sneered, "Kill them for me!"

At that moment, a black shadow flashed; the Mysterious Elf appeared beside Xiao Dian and Mo Yi, swinging her long whip to repel the approaching enemies one by one.

"Take him and go quickly!" the Mysterious Elf said without turning her head, her tone edged with urgency.

"You…" Xiao Dian was stunned, not understanding why she was helping him.

"Stop the nonsense, if we don't leave now it'll be too late!" the Mysterious Elf said again.

Xiao Dian knew there was no time for hesitation; he gritted his teeth, lifted Mo Yi, and turned outward to break through.

"Think you can leave? Not so easy!" the Envoy of the Blood Night Demon Family snorted, his form flashing as he blocked Xiao Dian.

"Get out of the way!" Xiao Dian roared, swinging his great axe at the Envoy of the Blood Night Demon Family.

The Envoy of the Blood Night Demon Family let out a cold laugh, neither dodging nor flinching, extended his palm, and nonchalantly caught Xiao Dian's great axe.

"You think you can hurt me?" the Envoy of the Blood Night Demon Family said disdainfully.

Xiao Dian felt a massive force surge from the axe, his palm tingling, and the great axe nearly slipped from his grasp.

"You…" Xiao Dian stared at the Envoy of the Blood Night Demon Family in horror, his eyes filled with disbelief.

"Die!" the Envoy of the Blood Night Demon Family's eyes flashed with murderous intent, his palm thrust hard, sending Xiao Dian and his axe flying outward.

"Xiao Dian!" from afar, Long Xing Sage shouted anxiously upon seeing the scene, but he was gravely wounded, his mana depleted, unable to intervene.

"It's over…" the Envoy of the Blood Night Demon Family slowly raised his right hand, a black energy sphere coalescing in his palm, emitting a heart‑pounding aura.

At that moment, a mutation erupted… a blood‑red dusk shrouded the land, heavy scent of blood and death permeating the air. Zhang Cheng leaned against a massive boulder, panting heavily, beads of sweat mixed with blood rolling down his resolute face. He looked around; Xiao Dian was still struggling against the Envoy of the Blood Night Demon Family, clearly outmatched and on the verge of collapse. Long Xing Sage lay unconscious with severe injuries, his fate uncertain. The encircling circle tightened, enemies surged like a tide, as if they would devour them in the next instant.

"Mo Yi…" Zhang Cheng lowered his head, gazing at the faintly breathing Mo Yi in his arms, his heart torn. He longed to rush forward and fight alongside his brothers, even if it meant dying on the battlefield, better than waiting here to die. But he knew the only thing he could do now was to safeguard Mo Yi's final hope.

At that moment, a silver light descended from the sky; the Mysterious Elf finally broke free from the Blood Night Demon Family's blockade, brandishing her long whip like a whirlwind, tearing through the enemy's barrier and soaring toward Zhang Cheng.

"It's her! She's here!" Xiao Dian, seeing the Mysterious Elf, felt a spark of hope ignite in his eyes.

"Be careful, her motives are unknown!" Long Xing Sage's weak voice came, urging everyone to stay alert.

Everyone's gaze fixed on the Mysterious Elf, each heart filled with questions and anticipation. Is she enemy or ally? Will she help them? Or bring an even greater disaster?

The Mysterious Elf's eyes were full of complex emotions; she remained silent, coldly watching Zhang Cheng and Mo Yi, as if making an important decision.

"Are you here to help us?" Zhang Cheng, enduring the searing pain, asked.

The Mysterious Elf gave no answer; she slowly extended her hand, a dazzling light gathering in her palm. Seeing this, Zhang Cheng and Xiao Dian both exhaled in relief, seeming that she came to aid them. However, Long Xing Sage suddenly opened his eyes, terror filling his pupils; he struggled to rise but collapsed weakly, using his last strength to roar, "Be careful! Get away quickly! She…"

His warning unfinished, the Mysterious Elf's light suddenly burst forth from her hand, aiming straight at Zhang Cheng…
