Chapter 134: Jealousy Gone Out of Control
Meng Shutang looked at Gu Jin Xing, her eyes full of tenderness.
"Jin Xing, we have wronged you; you don't have to act like this."
Gu Jin Xing said, "No, you haven't wronged me; there's no need to say that."
After speaking, Gu Jin Xing turned and went to the dining hall.
Meng Shutang stared at Gu Yunci, her bright eyes flashing angrily at him a few times before she turned to leave.
The man kept his composure, not wanting to lose decorum in front of Meng Shutang.
But when he saw her leave, his gaze still fixed on Gu Jin Xing, and he suddenly lost all control.
"He doesn't understand the rules, and you indulge him as well?"
Meng Shutang thought Gu Yunci was being unreasonable, "Look at what you're saying. What does it have to do with us? How could he not understand the rules?"
Gu Yunci replied, "The one who doesn't understand the rules is you, time and again..."
Watching her red lips part, Gu Yunci's heart throbbed with pain.
He didn't finish listening, couldn't finish listening, lunged forward, grabbed Meng Shutang, and kissed her passionately.
He wanted to seal her mouth; every word was a knife, and for him those days were drenched in blood.
The man had none of the tenderness of the earlier deep kisses; his whole being was brimming with possessiveness and frenzy, his hand on her back tightening inch by inch, as if to grind Meng Shutang into bone and blood, or to tear her apart and devour her alive.
After waiting too long without them, the old lady called Gu Jin Xing over to tell them to eat.
Before he could approach, he clearly heard ambiguous sucking sounds and Meng Shutang's struggling whimper; he calmly looked on and shouted, "Dinner's ready."
Gu Yunci let go of Meng Shutang, "This afternoon in the room, you still have feelings for me.
Just to protect him, you push me away, don't you?"
"In all the many choices, I never hesitated to stand by you; can't you also stand by me?"
"As long as you stand by me..."
Saying that, his voice hoarse, "Whatever you make me do, I'm willing."
He can be good to Lu Shenyang and good to Gu Jin Xing; he can do both.
But if Meng Shutang's gaze toward him is cold, he will go mad.
"I wasn't on your side? Back then at the engagement banquet you pulled me away; I wasn't willing?"
"After leaving, you took me to Qian Shui Wan, never said a word to me, never said you loved me, never gave me a status, and just..."
"Did I ever complain to you even once?"
Gu Yunci listened, cupping her face, "Those lingering moments, you didn't want them?"
The first time, Meng Shutang felt shy, withdrawn, nervous... and also delighted.
Even though she had just been snatched in marriage, her emotions were complex, but there was certainly joy.
Gu Yunci would not feel wrong.
Including the following days and nights, locked inside the house, he toyed with her at will; she was exhausted and in pain, yet she did not refuse his demands.
Gu Yunci absolutely refused to believe his feelings were wrong.
He held her face earnestly, to see her expression clearly; his grip was a bit heavy, even to the point of hurting her.
"Let go of me."
Meng Shutang pushed Gu Yunci away, turned, and ran out.
In the old mansion's dining hall, the steward habitually followed the old custom of "young master, young lady," placing Meng Shutang beside Gu Yunci.
But now they were divorced, so there was no deliberate arrangement.
Gu Jin Xing wanted to sit with Meng Shutang; the two seemed to have a tacit understanding, standing there, and when the old lady sat down, they sat close together.
But as soon as the old lady sat, Gu Yunci calmly let Xin Xin sit beside Meng Shutang, while he sat on Xin Xin's side; the three formed a "small family love triangle," completely isolating Gu Jin Xing.
Seeing this, Gu Jin Xing carefully retreated and found a secluded spot to sit.
Innocently, Xin Xin asked, "Uncle, why are you sitting so far away?"
Gu Jin Xing gave a faint smile, "Uncle likes big shrimp, so I sit closer to the shrimp."
Xin Xin beamed, "Mom and I also like them."
Gu Jin Xing, hearing this, took out the shrimp and began peeling, placing one on Xin Xin's plate and intending to put another on Meng Shutang's plate.
Suddenly recalling something, he pushed the shrimp platter toward Gu Yunci, "Brother, peel for them!"
The old lady saw this and smiled approvingly.
During the meal, Meng Shutang habitually picked up the serving chopsticks and served Xin Xin.
Gu Jin Xing saw this, instinctively leaning forward slightly, lifting the plate to receive.
As a result, Meng Shutang naturally placed a piece of boneless fish into Xin Xin's bowl.
Gu Jin Xing was startled, "Sorry, Shutang, I thought you were giving it to me."
The old lady couldn't hold back her laughter.
Meng Shutang saw this, glanced at the old lady, and seeing no objection, added a piece of fish for Gu Jin Xing.
Gu Yunci ate in silence, his mood extremely low.
After finishing the meal and playing a while longer, the group went upstairs to sleep.
Xin Xin clung to Gu Yunci, coaxing him to sleep; during this time, Meng Shutang dared not enter the room.
Some work, she carried her computer outside to do.
Gu Jin Xing saw this, walked over, and made small talk with her.
"Jin Xing, I haven't asked you, what are you doing now, still restoring ancient pearls?"
Gu Jin Xing shook his head, "I stopped that long ago; now I run a small business."
Meng Shutang nodded and began reviewing the documents.
Gu Jin Xing turned his gaze to Meng Shutang in the warm light, "I truly admire you—your passion for the ancient pearl has remained steadfast all these years."
Seeing Meng Shutang's water cup empty, he rose and poured her a cup of hot water, placing it beside her.
Gu Yunci had lulled Xin Xin to sleep, then tiptoed downstairs; as he reached the stairwell, he saw a scene under the light.
The man's steps halted.
He increasingly felt that Meng Shutang got along smoothly with everyone, her smiles and words charming, yet with him she kept her distance, feeling out of place.
After all, he too was beloved throughout the city, accustomed to being courted by thousands—so why, when it came to her, was it different?
Meng Shutang heard the movement, turned her head to see him, and asked, "Is Xin Xin asleep?"
He gave an affirmative hum and came to Meng Shutang's side.
Gu Jin Xing still maintained his quiet posture, leaning on the table to watch her; once, he too had trusted Gu Yunci this much.
But since that incident occurred, the two brothers have never been that close again.
Gu Yunci's heart ached and felt tangled, yet he still firmly believed that Gu Jin Xing's feelings for Meng Shutang were not so simple.
Meng Shutang let out a small yawn, "Jin Xing, shall we sleep too?"
Gu Jin Xing rose, voluntarily taking on the duty of carrying the computer, and only at the doorway handed the computer and documents to her, saying, "Here."
Meng Shutang gave a faint smile, "Good night."
Gu Jin Xing turned his gaze to Gu Yunci, "Brother, I'm going to sleep."
After he left, Meng Shutang turned and went inside, while Gu Yunci leaned against the doorframe, not stepping inside.
The smile in his eyes faded a bit, his voice light as ice chips falling on a tabletop.
"Do you just like watching him, guarding him?"
