Chapter 135: One Spot, One Bite

~8 min read 1,562 words

Meng Shutang was startled by what she heard, but then felt a bit uncomfortable.

"What do you mean?"

"I told you, I don't like you getting too close."

"He's my younger brother; I know him better than you do, and he's not as simple as you think."

Gu Yunci stepped forward intending to pull her, but Meng Shutang flung him away and said, "Why is Jin Xing not simple? Since he returned he's been gentle and tolerant, respectful to you as well. Why do you have to target him?"

"Target him? I'm doing this for our future!"

If Gu Jin Xing hadn't suddenly returned, Gu Yunci would think that by now he and Meng Shutang had already obtained a marriage certificate and remarried.

But because of his arrival, Meng Shutang now treats him as an outsider again.

"You only feel indebted to him, so you can't see through his thoughts," the man's gaze was ice‑cold, staring fixedly at Meng Shutang. His chest felt both tight and painful, angry that she didn't avoid impropriety, and resentful that Gu Jin Xing was so close to her.

"Enough, Gu Yunci. You're always like this; whenever a man appears by my side, you can find ten thousand faults in him.

All these years, I've had enough! Leave, I don't want to argue with you!"

She tried to suppress it, fearing she'd wake Xin Xin, but she couldn't control herself and raised her voice.

"Do you really want to argue with me, for his sake? To cause a scene with me?"

Gu Yunci felt aggrieved, wondering why, no matter when, he was always the one discarded in Meng Shutang's options.

"Get out!" Meng Shutang didn't want to see him, opened the door and pushed him out forcefully.

The man felt a stabbing pain in his chest from her action.

He didn't leave; he reached out, clasped her wrist, anger and unwillingness swirling in his eyes, lowered his head and kissed her without a word.

In a flash, his fingertip gently pressed her chin, his tongue breaching her defenses, immersing itself powerfully as it explored every inch of warmth between her lips.

Meng Shutang pushed him, but couldn't move him.

The kiss was like a sudden gale and storm, bordering on uncontrollable madness, as if it would dissect her whole being into his belly.

She snapped and bit him, the pain making Gu Yunci gasp a cold breath, frozen in place.

The taste of blood mixed with scorching heat filled his mouth; he stepped back half a pace, the corners of his eyes reddening, each breath a sharp sting.

Meng Shutang watched, her heart suddenly wrenching in pain.

The man's eyelashes trembled like butterfly wings dampened by rain, his voice hoarse with a choking tremor, "You bit so hard, so willing!"

She spun around abruptly, unwilling to look at him.

Gu Yunci paused for a moment, but couldn't help moving forward a step and wrapping his arms around Meng Shutang's waist, even though they'd just argued and she didn't like him, he still wanted to be close to her.

Their relationship had completely reversed now; Gu Yunci felt he was more like a cat.

Clingy, loves to rub against the neck...

When his slightly cool thin lips traced her neck, along her jaw, climbing onto her lips.

Meng Shutang refused, "Stop kissing me."

His mouth was covered in fresh blood and swollen; he should have tended to it.

Gu Yunci wanted far more than this; he wanted to, like four years ago, hold her while sleeping at night and wake up embracing her the next day.

But he knew these... might never be realized again.

He held her, whispering seductively, "One last bite."

He meant tonight.

Meng Shutang took it to mean a parting kiss between lovers.

"Really?"

"Really."

The man kissed her lips reluctantly, then pressed his mouth to her neck.

Meng Shutang, "Didn't you say one last bite?"

Gu Yunci, "... one spot, one bite."

Meng Shutang listened, felt, and slowly closed her eyes,

In her mind, a few blurry, lingering old images flashed: four years ago, she and Gu Yunci entwined on the bed under night, warmth mingling.

Back then, he was the same with her, whispering seductively.

After the kiss, Gu Yunci left, even thoughtfully closing the door, as if the intimacy moments before never happened.

Meng Shutang froze there for several seconds, her back softening as she leaned against the nearby cabinet.

Her slender fingertips unconsciously brushed her red lips, rubbing hard a few times, as if trying to erase his trace.

But for some reason, the more she rubbed, the more chaotic her heart became.

The next day.

Gu Yunci came over to dress Xin Xin, saw Meng Shutang, gave a calm, indifferent slight nod without speaking, and went straight to Xin Xin's side.

"Xin Xin, get up."

Xin Xin rubbed her sleepy eyes, "Dad, what's wrong with your mouth?"

Meng Shutang, standing nearby, heard this and pressed her red lips together slightly.

Gu Yunci gave a faint smile, "I accidentally bumped it."

He took out pink, purple, and yellow little dresses from the cabinet for Xin Xin to choose.

Xin Xin chose the yellow one.

It was a goose‑yellow velvet dress, making Xin Xin's skin as white as jade, her brows and eyes bright and tender.

She looked like a cluster of warm sunshine, lively and delicate.

When Gu Yunci lifted her out, Meng Shutang glanced sideways; the father and daughter exchanged approving looks.

As Gu Yunci and Xin Xin stepped out, they ran into Gu Jin Xing.

"Second Uncle."

Xin Xin politely greeted him.

Gu Jin Xing took Xin Xin's small hand and shook it, "Good morning, Xin Xin."

He turned his gaze and saw Gu Yunci's lips were cracked, his expression flickered slightly.

Gu Yunci, as if not noticing, gave a casual glance and said, "Let's go downstairs to eat together."

Just as they reached the downstairs, they met an elderly lady out for a morning stroll.

"Good morning, Great-Grandma."

Xin Xin broke free and went to take the old lady's hand.

The elderly lady clasped her hand gladly, "Xin Xin, you look so beautiful in yellow."

She looked up and saw Gu Yunci's lips, "Yunci, your mouth—"

Gu Yunci replied calmly, "I accidentally chipped it."

The old lady said nothing, but when they headed to the restaurant she walked deliberately slower and asked Aunt Song, "Yesterday, did you really see Yunci and Tang Tang kissing?"

Aunt Song nodded, "Absolutely certain."

Breakfast was lavish, a whole table piled high.

The old lady chatted and laughed with Meng Shutang and Gu Jin Xing, while Gu Yunci sat quietly, content to play the benevolent father, as if the lively scene had nothing to do with him.

It was only when Meng Shutang said after the meal she would go to Wanxing Ge, that Gu Jin Xing suggested going together, his gaze darkening briefly.

After the meal, Meng Shutang went upstairs to tidy up, then would head to work.

Gu Yunci, the old lady, and the others took Xin Xin to the villa's garden to play.

The back garden was covered with a thin layer of fallen leaves; a servant brought out multicolored bubbles for Xin Xin, the morning sun gentle, Xin Xin chased the bubbles, a lively and warm scene.

The old lady, seeing this, laughed, "I vaguely recall, when you were older than Xin Xin, your mother took you to West Mountain to pick up fallen leaves.

Back then, you two brothers had their arms around each other, talking and laughing, your laughter as clear as Xin Xin's."

The memory pricked Gu Yunci's heart, a sour feeling in his chest; he never regretted snatching Meng Shutang away from the engagement banquet seven years ago, yet his debt to Gu Jin Xing felt like a stone.

Childhood warmth and the present confrontation churned within him; he stared silently into the distance, almost cold and hard.

Gu Jin Xing, after hearing this, took the old lady's hand, smiling gently, "Grandma, I know what you want to say.

Elder brother has always taken good care of me; my heart is as clear as a mirror.

When I was young I relied on elder brother the most, and still do now."

Meng Shutang lifted her bag and walked over, stopping in front of Xin Xin, who was squatting on the ground picking up a yellow maple leaf; she smiled and brushed Xin Xin's hair back, and Xin Xin handed her a leaf, "Mom, look how beautiful it is."

Meng Shutang carefully took the leaf and placed it in her bag, "Mom's gone to work; take good care of Great-Grandma and dad."

Xin Xin nodded; Meng Shutang kissed her forehead and got up.

Gu Jin Xing, seeing this, bowed to the old lady and Gu Yunci, "Grandma, elder brother, Tang Tang and I are going to their studio; a few old friends will stop by to say hello."

The old lady nodded, "Go ahead!"

The sound of the Bentley's roar faded farther and farther, until it vanished completely at the road's end.

The huge villa was left only with the servant and Xin Xin's faint chatter.

Gu Yunci stood where he was, the daylight falling on his face, still the same calm, emotionless expression.

Only his hand hanging at his side, the knuckles white with tension.
