Chapter 149: Two‑Person World, Foiled

~7 min read 1,261 words

Gu Yunci froze for a moment, then instantly turned the tables, gripping her slender waist—barely fitting in a hand—and held her tightly.

Their breaths intertwined, instantly making their hearts race; Meng Shutang let his aggressive kiss land, nothing like her earlier hesitance and refusal.

An ambiguous, scorching aura filled the air, heating the surrounding atmosphere.

After a long while, the man left.

Foreheads pressed together, Meng Shutang suddenly said, "I want you."

Gu Yunci's eyes glittered with ambiguity, "Here it's too noisy, might disturb them?"

Meng Shutang pressed her lips together.

Gu Yunci's hand clasped the back of her neck, forcing her to look up; he lightly pecked her red lips, "Let's go to Chengxi Bieshu, no one will disturb us there."

Meng Shutang nodded, "Alright."

The two packed their things; Gu Yunci thoughtfully gave her some medicine, but as soon as they stepped out, a soft, mushy voice burst out, "Dad, Mom, are you done kissing?"

The delicately carved little dumpling clutched her favorite rabbit plush, shuffled in tiny slippers, hair a bit messy, her grape‑black bright eyes sparkling at them.

Meng Shutang froze for an instant; the hint of anticipation on her slender face stiffened, a mix of panic and guilt, like a child caught sneaking out, her hand unconsciously clutching the jacket draped over her arm, she whispered soothingly, "Sweetie, you're not asleep yet?"

Gu Yunci's expression hardened further; his usually crisp, cold face rarely showed a trace of embarrassment and fluster, tinged with the awkwardness of being caught red‑handed.

His Adam's apple twitched, about to speak, but his daughter's soft gaze blocked him, and his aura collapsed by half.

Xin Xin glanced at what they held and their slightly ailing looks, instantly reacting, "Where are you going? I want to go too!"

The two exchanged a glance, then averted their eyes, awkward and disappointed.

They basically concluded that the two‑person world had fizzled out.

Seeing them silent, Xin Xin took Gu Yunci's hand, "Dad, Mom's ill and needs rest, come read picture books with me."

And so, Gu Yunci was pulled away by Xin Xin.

Grandma emerged after washing up, glanced at Meng Shutang, "It's so late, where are you going? Your illness isn't healed, rest properly!"

Meng Shutang retreated to her room, bored, and opened her computer to work for a while.

Fifteen minutes later, Nai Tuanzi tugged Gu Yunci's hand over, small body flopped onto the middle of the bed, "Dad, Mom, let's sleep, I want to sleep in the middle."

After speaking, she solemnly arranged, "Dad sleeps here, Mom sleeps there, I'll sleep in the middle to protect you."

Meng Shutang laughed at her cuteness, signaling Gu Yunci to coax Xin Xin to sleep, "You two go to sleep first; I'll sleep after I'm done."

Gu Yunci said, "You're still ill, don't overexert yourself."

Meng Shutang pressed her lips and smiled softly, "I know."

Downstairs.

Gu Jin Xing saw Meng Shutang's reckless kiss on Gu Yunci.

His gaze fixed on their pressed lips, his heartbeat in his chest suddenly stopped, blood seeming to freeze at that moment.

He stood motionless, forgetting even to breathe, left with a dead‑silent awkwardness and shattering.

Why, after seven years apart, had these past few days brought so many wonderful things between him and her?

Was it still Gu Yunci she chose?

This morning, while taking Xin Xin out to play, many people mistakenly thought they were a family of three.

An elderly lady leaned over to whisper, "Your wife is so beautiful, your daughter looks just like you!"

He watched Gu Yunci lie on the bed, Meng Shutang rose to pull the curtains, and he stepped back, leaving heavily, step by step.

Meng Shutang focused on the blueprint on her computer, delicate fingertips about to strike the keyboard, when a warm shadow suddenly fell over her from behind.

Before she could turn, the man leaned in, his thin lips lightly touching her neck side, then sliding up along her jawline, leaving an unexpected kiss on her face.

She flinched slightly, her hand on the keyboard paused, and she turned her head.

Gu Yunci looked at her, "Tell Grandma we're leaving?"

Meng Shutang glanced at Xin Xin on the bed, "Another day then!"

Actually she had been moved earlier, really wanted to.

But now, that drive is gone.

Gu Yunci leaned against the desk, his fingertips absentmindedly grazing her hair tips, a lingering darkness still weighing in his eyes.

Hearing her say she'd lost interest, he wasn't annoyed.

After a moment of silence, his Adam's apple rolled slightly; without forcing her, he simply reached out, pulling her from the chair into his arms, thin lips meeting hers, his voice low, hoarse, and a bit plaintive yet assertive, "Remember this, next time we'll take it all back with interest."

Meng Shutang pressed her lips and smiled, "Okay."

Gu Yunci left, and Meng Shutang went to see him off.

But at the doorway he didn't let her go, "You're still ill, the night wind is strong, stay here!"

Actually, once Grandma said they'd see each other off, something all night, he heard it.

Even if Meng Shutang escorted him downstairs, he'd bring her back up, feeling at ease only after seeing the door lock.

Rather than let Meng Shutang go down uselessly into the wind, he'd rather stay here a while longer.

Meng Shutang felt a warmth in her heart, hugged him, and gave him a farewell kiss, "Drive slowly on the road."

"Mm."

The man held her tightly, "I'm leaving."

Gu Yunci had just left Qingluju when he encountered a traffic accident on the road.

A red Cayenne slammed into a roadside tree, the front crumpled and deformed, the hood buckled, and the windshield shattered.

The airbags deployed, and the air was filled with a sharp plastic and gasoline smell.

Gu Yunci stopped the car, seeing murky gasoline continuously dripping from the front gap, spreading along the ground to his feet.

A sizzling sound came from the engine, accompanied by faint wisps of white smoke.

Being car‑obsessed, he knew that as the temperature rose, sparks flickered in the gap; any spark igniting the leaking gasoline would engulf the whole car in flames instantly.

The person in the car will also turn to ash.

He couldn't bother to think that much; he immediately rushed over, opened the deformed car door, and pulled the unconscious driver out of the car.

The second the person left the car, with a bang, the flames shot up to the sky.

Instinctively, he shielded the person in his arms and lifted her away.

When they reached a safe area, he turned his head to glance at the car, which was still burning fiercely.

He lowered his gaze again at the person in his arms, "Comrade…"

He called out once, then froze, "Bai Cixian, Bai Cixian…"

He shouted at her forcefully, several times, but Bai Cixian gave no response.

He immediately took out his phone and dialed 110, the emergency line: "Purple Mansion Road, a Porsche Cayenne crashed into a tree and is leaking oil, yes, there are injuries."

He then dialed 120, reporting that there were injuries at the accident scene.

After finishing, as soon as he hung up, his hand was tightly grasped by Bai Cixian, whose face was covered in blood on the ground.

She was wrapped in overwhelming terror, her voice as light as a wisp of soul, carrying near‑death weakness and a sense of release, "Brother Yunci… thank you for saving me, between us… we're even."

After speaking, she collapsed into unconsciousness.
