Chapter 42: Conflict: Between You and Me, an Exchange Can Be Made

~7 min read 1,319 words

"The King of Slaughter... is he finally going to make a move?" someone whispered in prayer, as if pinning their last hope on that high and mighty king.

However, Zhexian's footsteps did not falter in the slightest; his figure was like a streak of white light, rapidly approaching that pitch-black castle.

On the highest level of the castle, the King of Slaughter still stood before that enormous window, his gaze coldly fixed on Zhexian's figure. There was no anger in his eyes, nor fear, only a trace of faint gravity.

"He has finally come..." the King of Slaughter muttered, his voice carrying a hint of complex emotion.

Behind him, the Shinu wearing a black bodysuit stood respectfully, her face full of awe and fear.

"King, he... he really has come!" the Shinu said, trembling, her voice laced with a hint of panic.

The King of Slaughter sneered, a cold glint flashing in his scarlet eyes: "He has some guts, but it's a pity this is my home turf!"

"Also, remember to talk less in your next life!" The King of Slaughter's expression turned cold, and he instantly crushed the Shinu's skull beside him.

Even in death, the Shinu could not understand what she had done wrong.

After disposing of the Shinu, the King of Slaughter's figure vanished from the spot, leaving only a corpse behind.

At the same time, Zhexian had already arrived before the castle's main gate.

That enormous black iron gate was tightly shut, with a ferocious nine-headed bat pattern carved upon it.

Zhexian stood before the gate, his gaze sweeping over the iron door with indifference, the corners of his mouth lifting slightly to reveal a faint smile.

"Fellow Daoist, I am Zhexian; may I ask you to open the door for a meeting?" His voice was calm and indifferent, as if he were exchanging pleasantries with an old friend rather than facing a king who controlled Slaughter City.

The voice echoed through the empty castle, yet received no response.

Zhexian's mouth lifted slightly, revealing a faint smile.

He gently raised his right hand, and a profound rune instantly condensed into a phantom image.

"Heaven Horned Ant Precious Technique—Power Breaks the Universe!"

Once the Heaven Horned Ant, one of the Ten Fiends, appeared, the terrifying pressure immediately caused ripples in the surrounding space.

Then, Zhexian pointed a finger out.

"Go!"

"Boom!"

With a loud crash, the iron gate shattered instantly under the impact of the Heaven Horned Ant, turning into countless fragments that scattered in all directions.

The aura of slaughter from within the castle rushed toward him, like hell itself.

"Since the fellow Daoist refuses to open the door, I shall have to enter myself."

No sooner had his words fallen than a low, deep laughter came from the depths of the castle.

"Hahaha... the White-Clothed Slaughter God, truly lives up to his reputation." The King of Slaughter's voice echoed through the castle, carrying a hint of cold killing intent.

Zhexian's gaze turned toward the direction the voice came from, a flash of cold killing intent in his eyes.

"Since you have come, then show yourself." Zhexian said in a low voice, his tone carrying an unquestionable majesty.

A moment later, the figure of the King of Slaughter slowly appeared in the depths of the castle.

His stature was tall and majestic, draped in a dark red robe embroidered with a ferocious nine-headed bat pattern.

His face was hidden in the shadows, with only a pair of scarlet eyes flickering with cold light, as if they could see through everything in the world.

"What business do you have with me?" the King of Slaughter asked coldly.

Zhexian's gaze watched the King of Slaughter with indifference, the corners of his mouth lifting slightly to reveal a faint smile.

"Does the fellow Daoist know of the Asura God Position?"

Sure enough, as soon as Zhexian's words were spoken, the King of Slaughter's body could not help but tremble.

Seemingly due to a headache, he was forced to reach out and clutch his head, his mouth still muttering in a cold voice.

"Human, you, who exactly are you... those who covet Asura, die!"

Having said this, a cold glint flashed in the King of Slaughter's eyes, and his figure vanished from the spot, leaving only a dark red afterimage as he charged straight at Zhexian.

The two figures crossed paths rapidly within the castle, each collision triggering a terrifying wave of energy, as if to destroy the entire castle.

The Soul Masters outside the castle saw this scene from afar and all revealed expressions of terror.

"The King of Slaughter... has finally made a move!" one Soul Master said, trembling, his eyes full of fear.

"The White-Clothed Slaughter God... can he really challenge the King of Slaughter?" another Soul Master muttered, his voice filled with disbelief.

However, no one could answer his question.

The battle inside the castle continued, Zhexian's figure like a bolt of white lightning, each strike triggering a terrifying wave of energy.

And the King of Slaughter's figure was like a dark red ghost, every attack carrying endless killing intent.

The battle between the two seemed as if it would destroy all of Slaughter City; the Soul Masters outside the castle fled in all directions, fearing they would be caught in the terrifying energy waves.

Yet, Zhexian's gaze remained indifferent and composed, as if this battle were nothing more than a game to him.

"Hmph, fellow Daoist, this conflict is merely your mind being controlled by the toxins within your body."

"If I detoxify you, will you provide me with answers? How about that?"

Zhexian's voice was calm and indifferent, as if he were stating the most ordinary of matters.

However, this sentence caused the King of Slaughter's movements to suddenly stall.

A flash of confusion appeared in the King of Slaughter's scarlet eyes, as if he had been touched by something. His body trembled slightly, his hands clutching his head as he let out a low roar.

"Toxin... toxin?" The King of Slaughter's voice carried a hint of pain and struggle, as if he were trying hard to suppress something.

Zhexian's figure remained where he stood, his white robes like snow, his gaze indifferent and composed. He gently raised the Jade Flute in his hand to his lips, and the leisurely sound of the flute rang out once more.

This time, the flute sound was no longer filled with killing intent, but carried a power of tranquility and peace, as if it could cleanse all filth and pain.

As the flute sound rose, countless pink petals appeared out of thin air, drifting slowly toward the King of Slaughter.

The petals landed gently upon him, as if dispelling the toxins within his body.

The King of Slaughter's body gradually stopped trembling, a flash of clarity appearing in his scarlet eyes. He slowly raised his head, looking at Zhexian with a complex gaze.

"You... who exactly are you?" The King of Slaughter's voice carried a hint of exhaustion and doubt.

Zhexian put away the Jade Flute, the corners of his mouth lifting slightly to reveal a faint smile.

"I have said it before, I am Zhexian, merely a person of no reputation," Zhexian said in a low voice, his tone carrying a hint of a faint smile.

A flash of complex emotion crossed the eyes of the King of Slaughter; he slowly stood up, his gaze fixed directly on Zhexian.

"Why would you help me?" the King of Slaughter asked coldly, his voice still carrying a trace of wariness.

Zhexian's gaze watched the King of Slaughter with indifference, the corners of his mouth lifting slightly to reveal a faint smile.

"Between you and me, we can make an exchange!"
