Chapter 8: Whale Glue

~7 min read 1,221 words

Last night, Yang Xiong was alone in his room, carefully looking at the Hundred-Year Whale Glue before him.

This piece of Whale Glue should be over five hundred years old, making it one of the better Hundred-Year Whale Glue.

Originally Yang Xiong also wanted to find a Thousand-Year Whale Glue, but according to the original text, a Thousand-Year Whale Glue can increase the Soul Ring absorption duration by five hundred years, whereas an ordinary Soul Grandmaster's First Soul Ring lasts only four hundred years. If it truly works, wouldn't that more than double one's physical quality? That defies logic; his own body might not be able to endure it.

In fact, in terms of physical quality, the entire Year One Class One is probably the best for Yang Xiong; in strength, speed, and even physique, Yang Xiong surpasses everyone, even those Soul Grandmasters of Beast Soul.

After all, those Soul Grandmasters only engage in full-force Meditation, whereas Yang Xiong basically spends a great deal of time training his body.

After a bout of indecision, Yang Xiong finally decided to take Whale Glue to see whether it truly works as the legend says, and he deliberately chose a Hundred-Year Whale Glue to avoid any mishap.

Normally, Whale Glue must be melted at high temperature to be used.

Yang Xiong didn't bother with all that; he simply lit a fire stove in the kitchen, added a copper bowl, and placed the entire Whale Glue into the bowl.

Since it was just ordinary Hundred-Year Whale Glue, it didn't seem as hard to melt as the legend claimed, and it didn't require a Fire Attribute Soul Master to handle.

As the temperature rose, the copper bowl gradually turned a dull red, and the Whale Glue began to melt in the bowl's heat, releasing a strange, somewhat languid aura throughout the room.

Enduring the room's high heat and odd aura, Yang Xiong used tongs to transfer the Whale Glue liquid from the copper bowl into an ordinary bowl, then swallowed it all in one gulp.

As the scalding Whale Glue entered his mouth, it felt as if a boiling iron block had been thrust into his mouth and throat, causing Yang Xiong to let out a painful scream.

But as time passed, the Whale Glue liquid gradually seeped into his abdomen, the heat spreading rapidly throughout his body; he felt as if he were being roasted over fire, his skin and muscles agonizingly painful, the pain even reaching his bones.

Clenching his teeth, Yang Xiong leapt straight into a cold water bucket he had prepared earlier; his whole body seemed to oscillate between cold and heat, as if he were about to split apart.

As time went on, the horrific pain caused Yang Xiong to gradually lose consciousness in the cold water bucket.

When Yang Xiong came to again, a whole night had passed; the once-clear bucket had turned black, and his throat and mouth still felt slightly burned, his voice a bit hoarse.

After bathing and cleaning himself again, Yang Xiong felt his strength had increased noticeably, especially during his morning training; the dumbbell in his hand felt much lighter. By his estimate, his physical quality had improved by at least thirty percent, perhaps even more.

What troubled Yang Xiong next was whether to reveal the Whale Glue matter; given his parents' physical quality, using Ten-Thousand-Year Whale Glue to boost a level of soul power should pose no problem, and their future development would be even better.

But as a member of the Seven Treasures Glazed Tile Sect, there is a major drawback: the secret of power enhancement is hard to conceal.

The Seven Treasures Glazed Tile Sect, being a great sect, provides comprehensive support for key disciples and students, especially with dedicated staff assisting in obtaining Soul Rings; his First Soul Ring requires at least five hundred years, the Second Soul Ring nearly a thousand years—how could he explain that to others?

Another point: as a sect disciple, he enjoys the sect's resources and benefits and must fight for the sect in the future; without special circumstances, a traitor would be shunned by the entire Soul Master World.

Just like the Single Attribute Four Families of the Clear Sky Sect's Outer Sect back then; if they hadn't been abandoned by the Clear Sky Sect, they probably wouldn't have had any chance to leave, for a sect can't invest huge costs to train people for nothing, right?

Yang Xiong has deeply felt this over the years, especially since his parents fundamentally consider him a member of the Seven Treasures Glazed Tile Sect; leaving or betraying is impossible, as the sect system has long been entrenched in this world.

Even Yang Xiong himself unconsciously treats the entire Seven Treasures Glazed Tile Sect as his home.

After pondering for a long time, Yang Xiong muttered to himself, "Fine, Whale Glue isn't really a great secret; others will discover it sooner or later. Perhaps I can trade this secret for a lot with the sect."

With that thought, Yang Xiong hurried to find his parents; as for his older brother Yang Wei, he hasn't returned because he stays at the academy for a long time.

Yang Lin and Sun Yu looked a bit puzzled: "Xiao Xiong, why did you come to us so early today? Aren't you training by yourself every morning?"

Seeing their parents, it seemed they had been meditating all night and only rested for a while at the end.

Yang Xiong said, "Mom, Dad, I've reached Level 10."

Yang Lin nodded, "Not bad, Xiao Xiong, you performed well, but why does your throat sound a bit hoarse?"

Yang Xiong ignored his father's puzzlement, "Dad, I've been reading many books lately and discovered a huge secret that might greatly benefit our family."

Yang Lin was a bit confused, "What secret could you possibly find in a book, Xiao Xiong? You still need to devote more effort to Meditation."

Yang Xiong said, "Father, look at my soul power."

Yang Lin examined Yang Xiong's body closely, especially feeling his soul power, which was extremely dense, not at all like that of a recent breakthrough.

"Xiao Xiong, when exactly did you breakthrough to Level 10?"

Yang Xiong replied, "Father, I only broke through the day before yesterday, but I took a piece of Whale Glue, and my soul power increased considerably, as did my physical quality."

Yang Lin seemed a bit angry, "Nonsense, what would a child eat Whale Glue for? Do you even know what Whale Glue is used for? You're only eight years old, how could you think of such things?"

Yang Xiong quickly replied, "Father, I'm not eating Whale Glue for that reason; I found that if you melt an entire piece of Whale Glue and swallow it at once, it can not only boost physical quality and soul power, but also purge impurities from the body, perhaps improving one's physical potential and even allowing absorption of higher‑duration Soul Rings."

Yang Lin and Sun Yu grew serious upon hearing this; if Whale Glue truly has such benefits, it could not only enhance their family's strength but also make a great contribution to the sect. According to the Seven Treasures Glazed Tile Sect's clear reward‑punishment rules, they could reap considerable benefits from the sect.
