Chapter 105: Rebirth

~8 min read 1,569 words

The night was quiet, the cicadas chattered everywhere; though noisy, it wasn't enough to keep anyone from falling asleep.

The Dwarves moved silently, gradually arriving before the palace main hall.

Led by Feng Yan and Chen Hao, the Dwarves headed straight for the palace main hall, charging straight at the garrison!

"Now is the time to display the Divine King's glory! Face death, we shall step into the Hall of Heroic Spirits!" the Dwarves shouted loudly, rushing toward the guards!

The soldiers guarding the gate saw the Dwarves approaching and shouted, "The Dwarves are coming! Everyone, attack!" With the shouts echoing, the two groups clashed in close combat?

"Kill!" the two groups mixed together, fighting in an indecipherable tangle.

As weapons clanged, a ping‑pang sound rang through the crowd, and Dwarves and guard soldiers fell one after another.

Meanwhile, Chen Hao and Feng Yan stood aside, watching, then, looking at the disadvantaged Li Guo soldiers, said, "Chen Hao, look—those guys can't hold on any longer."

Listening to Feng Yan, Chen Hao remained silent for a while, carefully observing; the Dwarves were indeed at an advantage. Yet Chen Hao felt something was off, a vague unease in his heart, and finally replied, "We should hurry and handle this properly."

"Indeed." Feng Yan nodded, and under the cover of night, using the Dwarves' assault, slipped quietly into the palace.

The two slipped away, while Jin Meng, looking at the World Tree, felt something was amiss.

Then Jin Meng turned, gripping a knife forged by the Dwarves, and swung it straight at a guard's neck!

Crack!

With a single sound, the soldier's head separated from his body; Jin Meng twisted the head aside and, feeling guilty, said, "We each serve our own masters, so farewell in the next life!"

At this moment, inside the palace, the king was still dreaming; he had a wondrous dream—was it his own ambition?

In his dream, the king used a sheet of paper and a single brush to draw a map of the entire world. He was amazed at its vastness, and a bold thought arose—he would seize the world's wealth!

"Wealth! All the world's wealth should belong to me! Because I am the richest person in the world! Only then can I be the king of Li Guo—no, the king of the entire world!" the king shouted in his dream, then let out a shrill laugh.

The king laughed, woke up from the dream, and heard the clashing of weapons outside. At first he didn't understand what was happening—had the plan succeeded?

No, he rubbed his sleepy eyes and immediately realized, "Adventurers have arrived!"

The king thought so, yet it was clear he hadn't fully awakened; he patted his forehead, then, feeling a bit clearer, summoned a soldier.

"Come!" the king shouted.

The soldier, hearing the voice, came, half‑kneeling, awaiting the king's command.

"What's happening outside?" the king asked the soldier.

The soldier didn't know how to answer, just bowed his head deeply, saying nothing.

The king asked again, "What exactly is going on?"

The soldier realized that if he didn't answer, he would be punished; his mind raced, and he said, "Our forces are currently at a disadvantage, but I believe they can defeat those weak Dwarves!"

The king nodded, agreeing with the soldier, then ordered, "I'll dispatch troops to support you immediately, so keep at it!"

Elsewhere, the bounty hunter had received the deposit from Jin Meng and kept his promise to the Adventurers, repeatedly ignoring the palace's orders.

This time, they indeed sent a message again, but the head and neck were in trouble.

This was the most expensive order inside the palace, larger than any previous one, yet the gold offered by the Adventurers was still sufficient.

This was half of the deposit the Adventurers gave; the other sub‑leaders were ready to start. Yet this made Chief Head uneasy, feeling it intensely.

The Chief Head could not control all the sub‑leaders; all he could do was inform them.

Chief Head thought so and began writing a letter; at that moment, his aide came running, shouting, "Leader, trouble! Another unit has moved!"

The leader set down his pen and went out together, reaching their room.

The room was empty; clearly, they had already set out.

The leader understood that this matter was still beyond control.

The World Tree still stood in the Red-clothed Devil's laboratory, but the branches that had wrapped the Red-clothed Devil had vanished.

Below the tree lay an arm, now only a white bone.

And the tree continued to grow slowly!

"Huh? What's going on?" a passerby said, watching the suddenly sprouting World Tree, and the next second he was soaring into the air.

"Ah!" the passerby shouted, then was brutally slammed to the ground…

"Dong!" a huge crash echoed, the passerer's corpse spilling bright red blood that seeped from his body as he convulsed, eventually breathing his last.

The massive noise finally drew attention to the phenomenon, but it was too late; the so‑called World Tree had already begun using its vines to snatch people inside the city!

All the pedestrians outside grew frightened, fleeing to nearby inns or open spaces; along the way, people were repeatedly seized by vines, then hurled from the heights to the ground, or shoved into tree holes…

Yet more were simply tossed into the air and, because of the great height, fell to a violent death…

Some people luckily ducked into an inn, and just as they thought they could catch a breath, the innkeeper emerged.

The innkeeper smiled at the crowd, then a greedy grin spread, his eyes flashing avaricious green light; he understood most of the situation, yet pretended to be clueless, saying, "Customers? Want a quick bite or a room?"

As soon as the words left his mouth, the crowd produced their gold and silver; seeing so much gold, the innkeeper's smile grew even brighter.

Bang! After a huge crash, the innkeeper looked up at what was behind him and was instantly frightened into a daze…

"Ah!" the crowd screamed again and fled the inn.

"This is a death caused by greed!" Yang Xin coldly watched the innkeeper lying on the ground, bound to a branch by the World Tree's vines; it seemed the fellow had become fodder.

"Where is the Red-clothed Devil?" Wang Tingwan asked.

"I don't know, but we can't worry about that now; we still have many tasks ahead!" Yang Xin said, pressing onward.

Wang Tingwan glanced back at the city, where two girls were playing in the palace main hall, hands on their chests, awaiting their return.

"I want to go over," Lin Xiyan said, and after speaking, prepared to go directly.

"No, master—" Wang You hadn't finished speaking, but still couldn't finish.

"Why?" Lin Xiyan laughed, looking at Wang You; her cheeks flushed, appearing extremely shy.

"Because—because—" Wang You lowered his head, still unable to finish.

"Since you can't finish, then farewell!" Lin Xiyan said, beginning to prepare to leave the city gate toward the palace.

"That's because—Lord Feng Yan doesn't want you to go, it's too dangerous!" Wang You shouted as Lin Xiyan was about to leave.

Lin Xiyan stopped walking, then turned back toward her, extended both hands to her, and said with a smile, "Then, let's go."

Wang You nodded, taking it as agreement.

The master and servant held hands, walking toward Wanggong; now they seemed more like sisters.

They all began preparing to do something, supporting Feng Yan's battle!

At this moment, inside the World Tree, the Red-clothed Devil turned into an arm, and that "person" said to the abyss below, "Hela, what are you trying to do? But this place will no longer be your arena!"

"Of course it's not her arena; this is my arena!" a voice came from the abyss.

"Who?" the figure shouted, and at the same time looked down into the abyss.

"Are you afraid of death?" the voice sounded again from the abyss.

"Then we'll see what kind of death it is!" the figure said.

At that moment, a dog suddenly burst out of the abyss!

The dog was covered in golden light, sparkling, and the one‑armed fellow simply tore into it!

"Ah!" the figure cried out in pain, trying to break free from the golden dog's bite, but he had no strength left and fell into despair.

"How does the golden dog's bite feel? Tir!" as the voice drew nearer, the figure clearly recognized him.

"Who are you?" Tir asked, puzzled.

"I am you, you are me!" the voice replied, then smiled.

"You! Why?" Tir asked, bewildered, as the golden dog had already devoured his body, leaving only his head and a hanging breath.

"Nothing. I did sacrifice myself to the World Tree, that's true, but I am also you, your other side!" the Red‑clothed Devil shouted, "Why abandon me? Why must I be bitten by Fenrir's teeth? Why must I fall into the Poison River!"

Listening to the Red‑clothed Devil's accusations, Tir could no longer answer; his last breath faded, his eyes slowly lost their luster.

"Farewell!" the Red‑clothed Devil said, then directly ripped open a hole inside the World Tree with his hand and walked out.

It was night now, and the entire Wanggong had been thrown into chaos by Feng Yan and Chen Hao.

"Then, Adventurers, now, this is our final battle!" the Red‑clothed Devil rode the night and said.
