Chapter 53: Police Uncle, please come quickly!
The moonlight was like water, shining in the mountain ravine, amidst the vast fog, a person fled in panic.
Not far away lay a cliff and jagged rocks; under the night they resembled a ferocious beast, its bloody maw gaping, silently waiting for ants to walk into the net.
Yet the fog concealed it, making it seem like flat ground; Liu Siming was utterly unaware of the danger right before him.
He clutched the phone desperately, like a drowning man grasping at a straw; from the other end came a continuous buzzing, as if suffering some unknown interference, making normal conversation impossible.
"This…… sir…… are you still there……"
"Hey, have you heard! There really is a White Bone Spirit here!"
The signal came and went, constantly testing Liu Siming's fragile nerves; at first he could hear a faint voice, but later only chaotic static.
"Please, give me a reply quickly."
Liu Siming was hysterical, still hearing no reply; the tall, burly man now resembled a pitiful worm, desperately praying in his heart.
They were in the human trafficking business; normally seeing police was like a mouse seeing a cat, they'd hide if they could, but never had they so desperately wished for police to appear quickly.
But heaven did not hear Liu Siming's prayer.
"Crack—crack—"
Liu Siming's body stiffened; hearing that familiar, terrifying grating sound, as if infected, even his own teeth began to chatter, producing a continuous clacking.
He abruptly turned his head; under the pallid moonlight, a skeleton gradually emerged, its dark eye sockets staring at him.
Beside the white bone lay a snake, bathed in moonlight, its body flashing with an unusual sheen; in its icy, bloodthirsty beastly pupils flickered a hint of human-like mockery and contempt.
Liu Siming felt as if he had an illusion: what stood before him was not a snake but a living person.
He couldn't help swallowing, "You, don't come over."
Liu Siming instinctively stepped back; hearing the sound of rolling stones, he stumbled, his body shaking violently, lunging forward just enough to avoid falling.
He cautiously turned his head; the wind had blown away some fog, vaguely revealing the steep cliff wall and the unfathomable abyss—if he fell, there would be no chance of survival.
Liu Siming had nowhere left to retreat.
Facing the white bone closing in step by step, with a ten-thousand-foot abyss behind him, Liu Siming was trapped in desperation, his eyes unfocused, his pupils mostly black.
He felt as if, on the gloomy white bone, he saw countless faces that had once begged or struggled against him, or rather, these people clung to the bone, coming to demand his life.
There was an innocent, lovable little girl, and a young female college student.
Back then he stood high and mighty, like looking at lambs awaiting slaughter, seeing only countless money and profit, indifferent to their pleas.
Because of trafficking, countless families were torn apart; even on the road to find relatives, some ended up homeless and destitute, yet to these traffickers it meant nothing.
All they wanted was money, the huge profits behind it; as for what befell the trafficked people afterward, it never entered their consideration.
Liu Siming saw a little girl whose limbs had been broken, begging on the street; she should have grown up carefree under her parents' love, but instead died of illness in a lonely rainy night.
Before death, she still clutched tightly a steamed bun she had pulled from a trash can, her whole body reduced to nothing but a skeleton.
If her parents saw their child end up like this, how heartbroken they would be.
He also saw a disheveled, mentally deranged woman chained in a pigsty, treated like a sow, constantly bearing children.
She was a college student, destined for a brilliant youth and future; perhaps she could have become a pillar of the nation, shining in her beloved post, but she withered prematurely.
"I was wrong, I really was wrong, I deserve to die; please spare me."
"I shouldn't have, for money, done these heartless things, selling my soul and conscience."
Liu Siming saw countless souls swarming to surround him, their hollow eye sockets nearly driving him mad.
These souls wept blood, recounting their tragic plight.
Liu Siming didn't want to hear or see, but these images simply wouldn't go away.
His knees gave way, he knelt on the ground, continuously kowtowing toward the white bone ahead.
"My heart was blinded by greed, I was insane; give me a chance, I will spend the rest of my life atoning, spare my life……"
Liu Siming's forehead was split open from kowtowing, eventually bleeding.
I don't know if his sincere repentance worked.
The grating sound gradually faded.
Liu Siming cautiously lifted his head; the white bone had actually vanished!
He gasped heavily, slumped on the ground, his expression full of disbelief.
Not only the white bone, but the surrounding fog also completely dissipated; the pallid moon overhead became normal, soft silver light pouring down, the whole mountain ravine veiled in a gauzy white mist.
It looked tranquil and beautiful.
Everything indicated a return to normalcy; those eerie, supernatural events were like an illusion.
"I, I survived?!"
Liu Siming couldn't believe it; the corners of his mouth slowly spread into a smile, he gleefully waved his arms and kicked his legs.
Having survived the disaster, he didn't notice the faint beastly pupils not far away.
The Illusion Divine Ability has a time limit; although this all actually only lasted a few minutes, sustaining it until now was already Ye Qin's limit.
When the time came, the illusion vanished.
And those who fell under the illusion, their inner fantasies naturally dissipated as the illusion faded.
Ye Qin watched Liu Siming, elated, not far away.
Is the belated repentance of any use?
How many people died because of them?
And how many families were torn apart?
No matter how Liu Siming atones, it cannot bring back those lost lives; his filthy blood is already etched into his bones.
Only with blood can all sins be washed away.
Ye Qin is not a victim; he cannot forgive Liu Siming on their behalf.
But he can send Liu Siming to face those victims personally, to apologize and beg for forgiveness.
Liu Siming was climbing up from the ground, preparing to leave.
"Whoosh!"
He seemed to hear the sound of a sharp instrument tearing through the air.
He hastily turned his head, but his pupils widened again; a green silhouette transformed into a Judgment Sword, striking with the speed of thunder before one could cover their ears, lunging suddenly at him.
By the time Liu Siming reacted, it was already too late.
A sharp pain came from his chest; he foolishly lowered his head, looking at the huge blood hole that pierced through his entire front chest and back.
He raised his head again to look at the snake not far away, his eyes full of disbelief.
Liu Siming moved his lips, as if wanting to say something.
Ye Qin understood his lip movements.
Why?
