Chapter 17
"No change."
"You have to give me change!"
"Hey, if you don't want to buy it, then don't..."
"Asshole!"
Peter cursed and turned to leave the convenience store.
Xu Can’s appearance had some Asian features, which prompted the clerk to use a blatantly racist slur.
"Chink!"
Peter’s anger flared, and he was just about to turn back to argue.
At that moment, a masked man brushed past him, stormed inside, and pointed a gun at the clerk.
"Hand over the money!"
The robber grabbed a handful of cash from the register and turned to flee.
"Stop him!"
Having just been insulted, Peter naturally wouldn't help; he turned and let the robber go.
Before leaving, the robber tossed him a bottle of cola.
Walking down the street at night, Peter gradually calmed down.
Using subtle micro-expressions, Xu Can clearly portrayed Peter’s shift in mindset.
Ordinary audience members might not have felt much, but the film critics present were slightly stunned.
"Is he really a rookie actor? His control over micro-expressions is truly masterful!"
"Man, this acting is incredible!"
"Judging solely by the performance, the quality of this Spider-Man is quite high! The casting was indeed a success!"
Bang!
A gunshot rang out nearby!
When Peter curiously ran over, he found a familiar figure lying on the street!
Peter was instantly engulfed in terror; ignoring the police blockade, he desperately rushed in.
Later, this scene was often used as teaching material in North American acting programs.
A seemingly simple and insignificant shot could truly reflect an actor's skill.
……
"The witness drew a sketch of the suspect. Have you seen this person?"
"No, I don't know him."
Uncle Ben had passed away, and the police were hunting for the suspect.
Standing to the side, Peter saw it clearly: this suspect was the very robber he had let go.
Xu Can used a layered performance to display Peter Parker’s remorse and rage.
Most of the second half of the film consisted of action scenes with the mask on,
so the iconic dramatic scenes earlier became even more critical, having already fully proven Xu Can’s genius acting ability.
The camera cut, and Xu Can, face full of rage, began tracking the killer on his own.
He first searched for and beat up criminals while wearing a hoodie,
and later, to avoid being discovered by the police, he designed his own mask using Spider-Man’s classic red and blue color scheme and a pair of cut-down ski goggles.
He also stole composite materials from Oscorp to improve his web-shooters.
With fast cuts and a montage, in just a minute or two,
the classic image of Spider-Man began to emerge, standing atop a skyscraper, overlooking the chaotic New York City under the cover of night.
"The attacker is a white male, 35 years old, heading along 19th Avenue..."
After intercepting the police radio, Spider-Man swung his webs, weaving through the buildings!
Before Uncle Ben was killed, when Peter first tested his abilities, the audience had already felt the thrill of web-swinging.
Compared to 2002, the Hollywood film industry had improved a tiny bit by 2006.
Director Marc Webb could use the latest camera technology without restraint: the Spydercam!
That’s right, the first-person tracking technology named after Spider-Man!
The camera moved entirely from Spider-Man’s own perspective, swinging constantly between high-rises!
The low murmurs of the audience could no longer be contained; they couldn't help but gasp! It was breathtaking!
Combined with the tall, wide IMAX screen and Dolby surround sound,
the thrill of watching the movie was almost on par with a 4D roller coaster at an amusement park!
It stimulated the audience's adrenaline to the maximum!
In one word: awesome!
In three words: absolutely mind-blowing!
This was the most intense impact their visual senses had ever experienced!
"Oh my god! This is what a real superhero movie should be!"
"It’s exactly what Spider-Man looks like in my dreams! I’m almost crying!"
"No way, I have to watch this 100 more times after this!"
"Just for this shot, the $1,000 I spent on a scalped ticket was worth it!"
The audience was experiencing a mental climax! They had goosebumps all over!
"Hey, you!"
After a series of high-impact swinging and stunt shots, Spider-Man finally found the suspected killer!
"Who are you? A cop? Get lost."
The suspect was very rude.
"Huh? Seriously? I’m dressed like this, and you say I’m a cop? What cop wears spandex?"
"You..."
"Shut up! Grown-ups are talking, kids shouldn't interrupt."
*Whoosh*—
Spider-Man raised a hand, and a web instantly sealed the suspect's mouth.
This segment fully displayed Peter Parker’s chatterbox, goofy personality; it was truly a faithful adaptation of the comics.
After a series of antics, the suspect was played for a fool by Spider-Man and tied up in a web.
Spider-Man’s image almost jumped off the screen, as if he existed in reality.
From this point on, no one doubted Xu Can’s Spider-Man!
Whether in dramatic scenes or action sequences, he truly achieved a perfect restoration while performing with his own unique flair!
The film reached its first climax here.
The subsequent showdown with the villain would push the entire movie to one peak after another!
After a series of tests and updates, Peter Parker made adjustments to his suit.
Finally, he crafted a fully realized suit!
The suit designer and art director was Kym Barrett, the designer for *The Matrix* trilogy and *Aquaman*.
The suit she designed and created was quite faithful to the comics and fit Xu Can’s physique perfectly.
Compared to the slightly bulky physique of the Tobey Maguire version, Xu Can’s generation of the suit looked tall and slender, yet possessed a certain sense of power!
The film was barely halfway through when the fully realized Spider-Man was revealed to the fans for the first time!
Before they could even voice their admiration,
there followed another round of dazzling Spydercam shots; the first-person perspective once again thrilled them to the point of shouting for more!
Spider-Man swung freely over New York, and under the sunset, he was simply filled with the free-spirited charm of a superhero!
