Chapter 161
Correct, that voice sounded arrogant and unruly, but then a long sigh "Shan zai..." came, which actually carried a peaceful, nurturing tone, directly beginning to soothe the wounds Bai Lang's spirit and soul had suffered—whether memories would return correctly or not is another matter, at least his intellect has returned quite a bit. Actually memories can also return; Bai Lang's brain isn't damaged, worst case, after thinking it over carefully, it's still possible, right?
"The voice behind is probably the Thus Come One, right?" Bai Lang thought, "The voice ahead?" Bai Lang really didn't know who it was, but it didn't stop him from crawling out of the blood pool, carefully walking along the Golden Light Avenue toward the direction of Great Thunder Sound Temple.
The many bhikkhus, bhikkhunis, and monks of various kinds that should have been here are all gone, but Bai Lang grew more and more alarmed as he walked—the pressure above his head grew heavier, he could barely take a step and all his joints were creaking under the pressure; upon closer look, he had only walked less than ten steps inside from the Benevolent King Gate. "Just this short distance and I can't move forward?" Bai Lang felt utterly helpless yet had no choice.
The blood on his body had clotted; moving caused clots to fall off, and the clots stuck to his skin and clothes made Bai Lang feel quite uncomfortable—most importantly, the lion's blood was scalding hot beyond compare, even when clotted it remained so. Strangely, this was a bodily sensation; his clothes were fine, logically scalding heat would burn the clothes, but they weren't.
Even if Bai Lang wiped away the blood traces on his skin, the scalding sensation persisted. Thunderstorms raged in the sky, but the Great Thunder Sound Temple seemed to have a barrier protecting the entire mountain gate, so shockwaves from above rarely pierced the barrier to hit the ground, yet some still did, and almost all were filled with a violent energy Bai Lang was completely unfamiliar with. This kind of Internal Force was entirely outside Bai Lang's knowledge.
Suddenly, a meteor fell from the sky, piercing the barrier and smashing into the ground; the golden tiles, originally extremely hard, were directly shattered into a huge pit. Bai Lang was thrown into a somersault by the impact wave and rolled back to his original spot. After the dust settled, Bai Lang opened his eyes again and saw that this seemed to be a Ming King he had seen in a temple or some painting.
"I don't know which Bodhisattva this is." Bai Lang muttered, he wasn't a Buddhist follower and couldn't tell the difference between the various Ming Kings, but anyway the figure before him with a blue face, fangs, three heads and six arms, wearing something like human skin and adorned with skulls, was definitely a Ming King. Even though Bai Lang's Buddhist knowledge was limited, he knew that a Ming King is a manifestation of a Bodhisattva, especially he also knew the Immovable Ming King and the Peacock Ming King...
That Ming King before him was miserable—never mind the severed hands and feet, even his golden blood flowed all over the ground, yet his ferocity didn't wane; instead he raised his head and roared at the sky. Meteors fell one after another, the earth shook violently, and impact craters appeared on the ground. Those were all Ming Kings... their appearance wasn't great, but without exception their fighting spirit remained undiminished. From the sky came a wild laugh: "Hahahaha, I'm not that weak monkey! Thus Come One, go fucking die!"
Who are you calling a weak monkey? Who are you talking about? Are you talking about my Sun Waigong? Another roar rang out; the next moment a booming sound shook everything, even the towering Buddhist temple ahead seemed to jump.
Bai Lang naturally knew who this self-proclaimed Sun Waigong was—none other than the Victory Fighting Buddha who liked to be called everyone's grandpa, an idol of countless Chinese children, and Bai Lang naturally admired his heroic spirit of fighting heaven and earth. But who was the one fighting this Great Sage? And still saying to let the Thus Come One die. Bai Lang strained his eyes upward, but couldn't make out the situation in the sky. However it seemed he would soon find out, as the voices grew lower and closer; the problem was Bai Lang couldn't hold on much longer.
His joints cracked and popped all over, and the broken bones were further displaced by the pressure, causing excruciating pain; Bai Lang could only hide his body beneath the fur of the azure lion lying motionless on the ground, not knowing if it was dead or alive. The lion was huge—just a few strands of its fur hanging down were enough to conceal Bai Lang's figure. Moreover, the pressure emanating from the lion's body was now almost entirely used to oppose the force from above, so Bai Lang only needed to withstand the lion's own natural strength—after all, there were still several li of distance, and he could endure it.
Accompanied by a blast, a bare foot stepped onto the ground—that was a six zhang tall golden body. Bai Lang had seen this figure before—at the temple's entrance, the Benevolent King Gate. This was precisely the Diamond Bodhisattva of the Hidden Trace who guards the Buddhist law, also known as the Benevolent King Arhat. As the bodhisattva's foot pressed onto the ground, a great force directly cracked the earth and made it sink with a 'thud'. Bai Lang could see that the bodhisattva's arms were crossed above his head; he must have been struck down.
But this Diamond Bodhisattva was certainly a powerhouse among the Buddhist Sect; he blocked the strike and, following through, transferred most of the force to the ground. The skill of this force-redirection was something Bai Lang knew he could not match. The finesse of any bodhisattva or Ming King's combat techniques present was beyond Bai Lang's ability. Then another Diamond Bodhisattva was likewise struck down, and they both gathered power on the ground.
Until another meteor fell from the sky. The two Diamond Bodhisattvas and the several Ming Kings who had slightly recovered simultaneously uttered an angry Sanskrit chant—nothing more than 'a' and 'hum' etc. —and at the same time unleashed their weapons with full force. The two Diamond Bodhisattvas even revealed iron fists, turning into flashes of light that shot forward and exploded. Bai Lang swallowed saliva; to him even a glancing blow would mean death without a whole corpse, and his measly Golden Bell Shield was nothing before such an attack.
Even if he cultivated the Golden Bell Shield to the tenth level, he'd probably die; even reaching the twelfth level might not spare him from a single strike by any of them." Bai Lang secretly trembled, but he forced himself to suppress his fear, striving to press his body even lower.
In the sky there was also a black rod of unknown length following the meteor downward, looking like it was chasing the meteor to smash it. The result was that when the meteor hit the ground, all the attacks arrived as well—their seamless coordination perfectly displayed the superb martial arts of those present. Bai Lang watching also felt a deep ache—these attacks hadn't caused much outward effect; it seemed the force was entirely focused into a single blow with no leakage.
Then a brilliant light burst forth; Bai Lang lay flat in the pit, but the azure lion the size of a mountain range was actually flung away. The bodhisattvas who had acted were also thrown back, bruised and battered, only the two Diamond Bodhisattvas merely had trembling hands. Standing in the middle, subjected to their concentrated fire, was a ferocious demon Bai Lang had never seen—"Saiyan? No, a baboon? Not a gorilla either? Not even a hairy person?"
Appearing in the middle, the one who held an iron rod aloft with a single hand was a 'baboon' with a savage visage, mouth and nose broad and long like a wolf's head, his whole body wrapped in radiant energy with golden fur blazing. Standing upright like a human, he too was nearly three zhang tall in golden form. This baboon's expression and aura immediately reminded Bai Lang of the old neighbor from his housing complex—a man who had spent half his life in jail, a veteran hooligan and criminal who had been in and out of prison at least four or five times, visited regularly by the police.
