Chapter 386 - 190: Divine Abilities 8
Chu Lingguang stepped forward for a look and saw Mo Shuang holding the Spiritual Monkey by the scruff of its neck, lifting it off the ground. Its fur had transformed, turning a brilliant red. It was about the size of a common yellow dog. Once caught, it had become surprisingly docile and even looked like it wanted to curl up on Mo Shuang’s arm and sleep.
"This little guy is very cunning. Don’t let it fool you."
Mo Shan warned.
The four of them then carefully examined the Spiritual Monkey’s limbs.
Chu Lingguang watched, a look of confusion on his face.
Mo Shan explained, "Once a Spiritual Monkey’s blood has been let, it loses its healing properties."
"Oh."
Chu Lingguang looked surprised. ’It seems the Spiritual Monkey’s blood can only be used once,’ he thought.
"Its blood hasn’t been let, so the Spiritual Power is still inside it. Put it in the net and chain it up."
Mo Shan said happily.
"SKREEE!"
Upon hearing this, the Spiritual Monkey began to screech and flail, baring its fangs ferociously. But despite being as fast as Lightning, it was like a fussy infant in Mo Shuang’s grasp, completely unable to break free.
In a flash, it was bound in chains, stuffed into a net, and tied to Mo Shuang’s waist.
"Chu Lingguang, you deserve most of the credit for capturing the Spiritual Monkey. We’ll report this to our lord and ask him to give a share of the blood to your master."
Mo Shan said.
Seeing that the Spiritual Monkey was about the size of a large yellow dog, Chu Lingguang smiled and asked, "How much blood can you get from it?"
"Three cups at most."
Mo Shan replied.
"It looks bigger than that, doesn’t it?"
Chu Lingguang was skeptical.
"Not all of its blood is therapeutic. Only its blood essence contains Spiritual Power."
Mo Shan explained.
"I see."
Chu Lingguang nodded in understanding. He saw the Spiritual Monkey was still struggling uncomfortably in the net. Thinking about how it could also save Guo Wei, he said compassionately, "Since only its blood essence is useful, why don’t we just take what we need and let it go?"
"The blood essence can’t be stored; it must be consumed immediately, or the Spiritual Power will dissipate. Besides, after having its essence drained, it will be weakened for some time. Leaving it here would be a death sentence."
Mo Shan added.
"Don’t worry. The Spiritual Monkey can save the Crown Prince and heal your master. Our lord will treat it well. Once it has recovered, he’ll release it back into the Hundred Thousand Mountains."
Mo Zheng said with a smile.
It was Chu Lingguang who had spotted the Spiritual Monkey and used his Archery to help them capture it. Mo Zheng’s perception of him had changed once again, and he now spoke with more courtesy and patience than before.
Chu Lingguang nodded. He could see the Spiritual Monkey was highly intelligent and had wanted to form a bond of goodwill with it. ’But I’m the one who found it and helped the four Mo brothers capture it,’ he thought. ’How ridiculous and naive of me.’
The Spiritual Monkey seemed to understand their voices. Though still resentful and indignant, it quieted down considerably.
"SCREECH!"
Suddenly, the Iron Wolf Eagles in the air let out a piercing cry.
The eagles, which had been circling above the valley, suddenly grew agitated, as if some terrifying presence was drawing near.
"Brother, look! Four Iron Wolf Eagles are flying in from the Turkic direction!"
Mo Lei cried out.
"They’re all full-grown Iron Wolf Eagles. The Turkic scouts must have noticed the commotion. We need to retreat, now! We can’t let them find out we’ve captured the Spiritual Monkey."
Mo Shan said urgently, his eyes fixed on the sky.
At the same time, he pulled out a whistle and blew a sharp note, ordering their Iron Wolf Eagles to fly toward Great Yuan and not to engage the four adult eagles.
Their three Iron Wolf Eagles were well-trained. Hearing the whistle, they immediately sped off in the direction of Great Yuan.
"Let’s go!"
The five of them quickly mounted their horses and galloped back toward Great Yuan.
"SCREECH!"
The four enemy Iron Wolf Eagles gave chase to their own three.
But then a peculiar whistle sounded from behind them.
The four Iron Wolf Eagles immediately broke off their pursuit and dove toward the five riders.
"It’s the Turkic people! They’ve spotted us!"
Mo Shuang saw a troop of about fifty or sixty horsemen charging down from the top of the valley.
"SCREECH! SCREECH!"
The four Iron Wolf Eagles dove in unison, their combined wingspans casting a massive shadow that blanketed the forest.
"FWOOSH! FWOOSH! FWOOSH! FWOOSH!"
Without a moment’s hesitation, Chu Lingguang drew his bow, nocked his arrows, and fired at the vitals of the lead Iron Wolf Eagle.
Iron Wolf Eagles were massive. Their flight speed was much slower than that of a typical falcon, but their hides were thick and tough. Their talons could shatter helmets and armor, and even pierce Qi Phase Scale Armor.
The four arrows Chu Lingguang fired all struck the lead Iron Wolf Eagle. He heard the THUD of impact and saw the arrow shafts embedded in its chest, yet the beast seemed unfazed. It faltered for only a moment before continuing its dive.
"Good Archery, but that bow of yours isn’t powerful enough. Once you have a Great Bow that requires Primitive Power to draw, your Four-Star Linked Pearls technique will be able to kill a full-grown Iron Wolf Eagle!"
Mo Shan called out.
"Kid, get into the trees!"
Mo Lei shouted.
An Iron Wolf Eagle’s wingspan was several meters wide. In a dense forest, the trees would obstruct their dive and severely diminish the force of their attacks.
So all five of them spurred their horses toward the forest at the edge of the valley.
The fifty-odd Turkic horsemen charged down from above, howling as they came, as if they knew the five held the Spiritual Monkey.
Riding Little Red Horse, Chu Lingguang dashed into the forest under the cover of the other four. He glanced back and saw the Iron Wolf Eagle he had shot diving down just before Mo Shan reached the trees, its talons aimed straight for the crown of Mo Shan’s head.
"SWISH!"
A brilliant flash of blade light shone.
Mo Shan unleashed his six-layered Dharma Aspect. Sword Qi flared out in all directions. A shower of the Iron Wolf Eagle’s feathers and a spray of blood filled the air as the beast hastily shot back into the sky. It circled high above the forest, its gaze fixed warily on Mo Shan.
