Chapter 34: True Companions
“Sss, this Saint Cloth is so over-the-top!”
Early in the morning, Mo En’s biological clock woke him up.
He slipped out alone, completing his daily morning training while testing out his newly acquired Saint Cloth.
The white Saint Cloth was adorned with purple patterns; white streamers fluttered behind the shoulder guards—slightly over-the-top, yes, but the specs were truly impressive; this wasn’t what a Bronze Saint Cloth should have!
Mo En sensed the Saint Cloth’s enhancement effects—it was roughly the same as the Pegasus Bronze Saint Cloth, both still only offering basic capabilities.
Primarily, it boosted physical attributes, mana efficiency, and provided inherent armor protection.
To unlock further functions of the Saint Cloth, he clearly needed to establish a stable connection with the constellations above.
After experiencing several times the sensation of tugging at the stars and resonating with the night sky’s constellations, Mo En became even more certain that his understanding and application of the Saint Cloth and its abilities were still in their infancy.
“The road ahead is long and arduous—I shall seek high and low!”
After encouraging himself, Mo En packed up and returned to the dilapidated village.
Opening the dorm door, Jellal was already awake, but Grandmaster Macao was still snoring loudly, likely dreaming sweetly—his snot bubbles rose and shrank with each breath.
“Good morning, Jellal.”
Mo En greeted Jellal with a smile.
Jellal, seeing Mo En flushed and sweaty, guessed what he’d been up to, his youthful face showing surprise.
“Good morning, Mo En. Do Itachi always wake up this early?”
Jellal asked curiously.
“Have Itachi ever seen Magnolia at four in the morning?”
Mo En replied seriously.
“Huh?”
Jellal clearly froze.
“I’ve seen Magnolia at four in the morning—every single one.”
Mo En spoke again, his face barely holding back a grin.
“.”
Jellal fell silent—he understood what Mo En meant: he worked hard every day.
After teasing Jellal a bit, Mo En dropped it and shifted his target.
Mo En walked to Grandmaster Macao’s bed, picked up a small stick nearby, and with a sharp “plop!” popped one of Macao’s ever-changing snot bubbles.
“Ow!”
Grandmaster Macao jolted awake, glaring at Mo En holding the stick, furious.
“Brat! I was having the best dream!”
“So close! So close! I’m furious!”
Macao leapt from bed, his body swelling rapidly—soon he towered like a giant, transforming from a short old man into a colossal deity.
Meanwhile, Mo En had already bolted out of the dorm, executing a perfect “crash, retreat, sell, flee”—leaving Jellal stunned, watching it all unfold.
“Good morning, Grandmaster Macao.”
Jellal swallowed hard, nervously speaking—furious Grandmaster Macao looked terrifying.
This overwhelming pressure—truly, no wonder he’s the head of “Fairy Tail”! His power is terrifying!
Seeing Jellal’s shocked expression, Macao shrank back to his usual gentle, small old man form.
“Cough, cough—good morning, Jellal. Come on, let’s see if the girl’s awake. If she is, we’ll set off.”
Macao cleared his throat, easing the awkwardness, quickly pulling on his clothes as he spoke to Jellal, then walked out with his hands behind his back.
Jellal hurried after him; by the time they reached Wendy’s room, Mo En was already waiting there.
“Brat!”
Macao shot Mo En a glare but didn’t act further; Mo En grinned and apologized.
“Won’t happen again—I’ll let Itachi finish your dream for sure!”
Mo En strained to keep a straight face—he dared not imagine what kind of dream Macao had been having; it might’ve been inappropriate for children.
Macao chuckled, shaking his head helplessly, too tired to argue with Mo En.
“Squeak.”
The old door opened; a small figure stepped out, Wendy rubbing her eyes sleepily.
“Splat!”
Wendy bumped into Mo En, lifting her head in mild confusion.
“Big brother! Itachi’re back?!”
Seeing it was Mo En, Wendy snapped awake—her face lit up with delight, her big eyes sparkling with anticipation.
“Look who’s here.”
Mo En stepped aside, revealing Jellal—though Jellal was a year older, Mo En was actually taller.
“Jellal!”
Seeing Jellal, Wendy was clearly delighted, then immediately turned to the old man behind her, Robinlu.
Robinlu had just woken her up and told her there was a surprise waiting—turns out, it was a real one!
“Go with them, Wendy. Join Fairy Tail.”
Seeing Wendy look at him, Robinlu smiled gently, speaking slowly, granting her freedom to leave—he had no reason left to keep her, even though he’d fabricated an entire guild for her.
“But… the folks from Cat’s Nest…”
Wendy hesitated; after spending the whole day together, she’d become friends with everyone in “Cat’s Nest.”
The thought of leaving them made her suddenly reluctant—everyone in “Cat’s Nest” had been so, so kind to her!
“Come with me.”
Seeing Wendy’s expression, Robinlu smiled and led the way, guiding everyone to the village entrance.
There, the entire “Cat’s Nest” group had gathered—men, women, young, old—all standing behind Robinlu.
“Cat’s Nest” was the name Robinlu had hastily invented for the guild—he hadn’t had time to think of anything better, not even the members were real.
“To fabricate an entire guild for one girl—remarkable.”
Watching the phantoms, Mo En thought to himself—was Robinlu about to confess everything to Wendy?
“Wendy, go. Go with them. There, Itachi’ll find what Itachi seek—true companions who will stand by Itachi.”
Standing before the phantoms, Robinlu spoke softly, waving to Wendy; behind him, the phantoms smiled gently, bidding her farewell—yet their forms did not vanish.
“Whenever Itachi want to return, come back to Cat’s Nest and visit us.”
Robinlu smiled warmly, his tone tender.
But his words shocked both Mo En and Macao—this old man truly intended to maintain “Cat’s Nest” forever, just for Wendy?
