Chapter 5: Fairy Tail

~6 min read 1,002 words

After testing the effect of the Pegasus Bronze Saint Cloth, Mo En didn’t stay long at home—he left for the Fairy Tail guild.

Mo En’s daily routine consisted of only three places: home, the guild, and the forest—he rested at home, trained at the guild, and explored in the forest. He had already gone to the forest early this morning, and the afternoon would be spent training at the guild.

Mo En’s home wasn’t far from the guild; just a few streets away. From his third-floor window, he could even see the Fairy Tail guild’s sign directly.

After all, this was the guild master’s residence—it naturally wouldn’t be far from the guild.

The streets of Magnolia City were clean and tidy, with buildings entirely in the style of Japanese light novel manga—cobblestone roads lined with neat stalls, ranging from sizable shops to simple roadside stands, all bustling with customers and constant hawking.

“Uncle Drew, how’s business today?”

“Auntie Kelly, is my new outfit ready?”

“Sister Phil, I’d like to buy a bouquet of flowers.”

Walking down the streets of Magnolia City, soaking in the lively atmosphere, Mo En greeted the vendors warmly. He walked this route every day and knew everyone well; the vendors responded just as warmly.

This street was one of Magnolia City’s busier commercial avenues, filled with all kinds of shops and stalls, like a marketplace.

Just steps from Mo En’s home lay this commercial street, so many of the old vendors and shopkeepers had watched him grow up. Compared to the increasingly rebellious and wayward Laxus, Mo En had always remained steady in character and was far more beloved—he had grown up in kindness.

“Here Itachi go, little Mo En. Thank Itachi.”

Phil, the flower girl in a tattered cloth dress, holding a basket of flowers, smiled at Mo En—her face dotted with freckles—as she picked out a bright, blooming rose and handed it to him.

Every day, whenever she came, Mo En bought a bouquet from her. Phil knew the boy was trying to help her sell out faster.

“Mo En! Heading to the guild? Here!”

The old fruit shop owner beside him called out to Mo En and tossed him an apple, his face beaming.

“Hey! Thanks, Uncle!”

Mo En caught the apple midair—it was bright red, looking delicious.

He bit into it with a crisp “crunch,” then grinned and gave the old man a thumbs-up, praising him lavishly to show his appreciation.

As Makarov’s grandson and a member of the Fairy Tail guild, Mo En naturally carried some fame in this city.

After all, Fairy Tail was the only mage guild in Magnolia City—and one renowned throughout the Fiore Kingdom, ranking among the very best. Fairy Tail had almost become one of the city’s symbols.

The guild’s location alone revealed its status: the Fairy Tail guildhall stood right at the center of Magnolia City.

One hand holding the flowers, Mo En bit into the apple as he bid farewell to the enthusiastic vendors. After crossing several streets, he finally arrived at the entrance of the Fairy Tail guildhall.

The Fairy Tail guildhall was large, surrounded by a wall, housing a three-story castle-like building. Above it hung the giant characters “Fairy Tail,” along with its emblem—a symbol resembling both flame and tail.

Every member of Fairy Tail bore this emblem—it was a mark of identity, signifying they were Fairy Tail mages.

Mo En had one too: a pure black emblem on his left shoulder, clearly visible when wearing sleeveless clothes or bare arms.

Mo En entered the courtyard and walked into the guildhall. The front door stood open, with no guards—anyone could walk in freely.

After all, mage guilds like Fairy Tail were essentially job agencies for mages, where members earned bounties by taking on tasks posted on the guild’s bulletin board.

Such places naturally didn’t restrict outsiders—they welcomed them. The guild even employed staff specifically to greet clients posting tasks.

Entering the guildhall’s front door, a noisy clamor filled Mo En’s ears. The first floor was the main hall, where all guild members gathered to accept tasks, eat, and carry out daily activities—open to everyone.

Rows of tables and chairs, a bar-style front desk, and several bulletin boards plastered with task notices—this first-floor hall truly had the feel of a “task hall,” where all Fairy Tail mages congregated.

The second floor was where high-difficulty tasks were posted—only S-rank mages could enter. The basement was accessible only to past guild masters.

“Mo En, I heard Itachi knocked out the new kid? Is that true? Are Itachi bullying newcomers again?”

Mo En had barely stepped into the guildhall when someone noticed him—a blue-haired man in a white coat, smiling as he spoke. He was well-informed—he already knew about Natsu being knocked out.

Although the first-floor hall was open to all, the Fairy Tail mages inside still kept watch on anyone entering—they didn’t want trouble in the guildhall.

“Uncle Ma Kaou, don’t say that. We were just sparring normally. Itachi make it sound like I’m some bully who picks on newbies.”

Mo En rolled his eyes and replied irritably to the blue-haired man.

“Uncle?! I’m barely thirty! Itachi brat!”

Ma Kaou clutched his head, looking as if he’d seen a ghost—he was in his prime, not some “uncle”!

“Hahahaha! Calling Itachi uncle is fine! Itachi’re twenty-nine, about to turn thirty, and aren’t Itachi about to become a father?”

Beside Ma Kaou, Waka Ba, with his brown spiky hair and a pipe in his mouth, laughed loudly.

“What are Itachi laughing at?! Itachi’re the same! Itachi’re already an uncle too!”

Ma Kaou shot back immediately—the two had barely spoken a few words before they began punching and kicking each other.

“.”

Mo En sighed and covered his face, refusing to look at the two fools. Since he was a child, Ma Kaou and Waka Ba had always been like this—he was used to this daily spectacle.
