Chapter 53: Mirajane

~5 min read 962 words

“That’s great! Sister! Itachi weren’t possessed by a demon—Itachi awakened magic! Amazing! No wonder Itachi’re Mirajane!”

After hearing Macao and Mo En’s explanations, little Lisanna burst into joyful cheers, her face glowing with happiness, her large eyes sparkling with purest light.

“That’s great! Sister! So amazing!”

Elfman also repeated it with a happy expression; though his appearance was dark and rugged, he wore a shirt and vest, giving him a gentlemanly air that created a striking contrast.

“Takeover Magic. Demon’s Power.”

Staring at her right hand, Mirajane stood frozen in thought.

Mo En squinted—he could keenly sense that the girl wasn’t happy at all; her gaze at that demonic arm was still filled with revulsion.

【Ding! Quest triggered!】

【Quest Name: “Mirajane’s Inner Turmoil”】

【Quest Content:】

S-rank Mage “Demon” Mirajane has doubts about her power and has fallen into self-isolation. For the guild’s development, it is your duty to guide her and help her shine once more for the guild!

Quest Progress: Get Mirajane to accept her power (Incomplete)

Quest Reward: Random Bronze Saint Skill.】

The 【Saint System】 popped up at the right moment, triggering a quest.

Looking at this quest, Mo En’s expression turned peculiar—it gave him a strange sense of déjà vu; when Erza first arrived, she’d triggered something similar.

But Erza’s quest only required helping her integrate into “Fairy Tail,” so the reward was far inferior to Mirajane’s.

Erza’s quest rewarded only rare metal materials—Silver Star Sand, Orichalcum, Gammane.

These weren’t unvaluable—in fact, they were extremely precious, mythical treasures said to exist only in legends, used to forge or repair Saint Cloths.

Yet without a Saint Cloth, and without the 【Saint Cloth Repair Manual】, Mo En had little practical use for them.

By comparison, a new skill was far more useful.

Even if the random skill was limited only to Bronze Saints.

Bronze Saints still include the Five Little Strong Ones.

Last time, Shiryu’s “Empty Hand Grabs Blade” was a Bronze Saint skill.

Yet “Empty Hand Grabs Blade” fit perfectly even among Gold Saint skills.

The Bronze Saint skill pool, if it grants any of the Five Little Strong Ones’ abilities, is guaranteed not to be a waste—and the odds are very high, since Mo En couldn’t recall how many skills other Bronze Saints had.

This meant the Five Little Strong Ones’ skills made up a huge portion of the Bronze Saint skill pool!

In a sense, prefixing “Bronze Saint” to “random skill” was effectively a “Rare Skill UP.”

Watching Mirajane lost in thought, Mo En abandoned his plan to leave for a mission.

For the coming period, his focus would be entirely on Mirajane—he’d first assess the difficulty of this quest.

“If Itachi have nowhere else to go, stay here at the guild. Join us. Become a member of Fairy Tail.”

Mo En smiled and extended the invitation on behalf of Grandpa Macao to the three children.

He felt Mirajane, Lisanna, and Elfman had no reason to refuse—they’d paused at the door, drawn by the guild’s lively atmosphere, proving their longing for this kind of environment.

“Yes! I love it here!”

Lisanna happily agreed, drawn to this place.

Because the old man and the big brother before her were kind—they didn’t despise Mirajane, didn’t see her as demon-possessed, didn’t shout to drive them away; no one in “Fairy Tail” would do that.

“Yes, I’m willing too.”

Elfman spoke up; his personality contradicted his appearance—he seemed a rather quiet boy.

With Lisanna and Elfman both expressing their desire to stay, all eyes turned to Mirajane.

“...Fine. I’ll stay.”

Mirajane pulled her arm back under her cloak and answered in a listless tone.

She tried to sound normal, to lift her mood—but it had little effect; she didn’t want her emotional state to affect her brother and sister.

“Alright, Erza, I’ll leave Mirajane and Lisanna to Itachi. I’ll take Elfman to the boys’ dorm.”

Mo En nodded in satisfaction; keeping Mirajane at the guild was the first step toward completing the quest—he couldn’t follow these three around on the road.

Though the 【Saint System】’s quest description called Mirajane an S-rank Mage, what hadn’t happened yet was still uncertain—everything depended on human effort.

“Don’t worry, I’ll take care of them.”

Erza smiled in reply; she could let Laqi hold the front desk alone for now—Laqi had been employed for half a year and could manage on her own.

Mo En trusted Erza completely—beautiful, kind, talented in song and dance, with no real flaws except poor combat ability; no wonder she was many in the guild’s dream woman.

“Come on, Elfman. I’ll show Itachi the dorm.”

Mo En patted Elfman’s head, signaling him to follow.

“Yes, big brother.”

Elfman obeyed instantly—he slung his bag over his shoulder, nodded, called Mo En “big brother” repeatedly, and walked closely behind him.

Though they’d just met, Mo En gave Elfman a strong sense of reliability.

Mostly because Mo En was the first to reject the idea that Mirajane was demon-possessed—this instantly won Elfman’s favor.

“No need to be so formal, Elfman. Now that Itachi’ve joined Fairy Tail, we’re family. Relax.”

Mo En smiled; his impression of Elfman was rapidly shifting—from the initial judgment based on appearance to a new image defined by contrast.

“Yes! Mo En-bro!”

Elfman replied, but still seemed slightly uncomfortable.

Mo En shook his head with a smile and said no more—he’d grow used to it soon. Neither Lisanna nor Elfman seemed eccentric; such children adapted quickly, especially with plenty of peers around the guild.

Bringing Elfman to the boys’ dorm, Mo En paused, doubtful—he wondered if he’d gotten lost after so long away; why was this dorm so dilapidated? It didn’t match his memory.
