Chapter 54: Mo En's Plan
“It’s Natsu and Gray—those two brats got into a fight this morning, and now the dorm looks like this.”
Seeing Mo En, Reinhardt, who was laboriously repairing the dorm, explained.
“Uncle Reinhardt? Itachi can do this?!”
Only when Reinhardt spoke did Mo En realize that the man dressed like a laborer, hammering away with a mallet, was actually Reinhardt, the guild’s master of defensive magic arrays.
“Hey, folks in our line of work need some way to make a living.”
Reinhardt laughed and replied—he wasn’t joking; weak magicians really did need other means of survival, or they might not even feed themselves.
Mo En rolled his eyes, ignoring Reinhardt’s nonsense—Reinhardt wasn’t weak at all; his skill here was pure hobby. The Fairy Tail folks had all sorts of hobbies.
Mo En looked up closely—the large hole in the dorm building was indeed in Natsu and Gray’s room.
“Is it really that dangerous?”
Elfman, watching nearby, swallowed hard, his face filled with concern—could a fight really punch a hole through a building? Was this place really safe for him to live in?
“Don’t worry, they’ve got control—they won’t hurt Itachi.”
Seeing Elfman’s worried expression, Mo En quickly reassured him—don’t scare the kid away.
“Natsu! Gray! Itachi’re always causing trouble!”
At the same time, Mo En mentally scolded Natsu and Gray—causing chaos and not even telling him? Afraid of getting beaten, are Itachi?
“I’m not afraid, Mo En brother.”
Though Elfman felt some worry, he didn’t retreat.
As a true man, he couldn’t be so easily frightened—he wanted to learn magic, so that if someone else fought again, he could stop them!
“Good!”
Mo En gave Elfman a thumbs-up—this “Little Elf” had grit in his character.
With his bag slung over his shoulder, Elfman followed Mo En into the dorm building; though Natsu and Gray’s room had a gaping hole, it didn’t affect the other rooms’ normal use.
Soon, Mo En settled Elfman in, then stayed behind, chatting with him in his room.
“Was your sister Mirajane always like this?”
Mo En asked, actively gathering intel on his target—know yourself and know your enemy, and Itachi’ll never be defeated; to make Mirajane accept this power, he needed to find why she refused it.
“No, Mirajane used to be brave and lively.”
Hearing Mo En’s question, Elfman’s expression grew somber; he spoke slowly, his tone full of helplessness—he’d always been anxious about his sister’s change.
“At first, after she awakened her Takeover Magic, she didn’t become like this. It was only after the villagers turned against us, after they hated us, that she changed—she became depressed.”
Elfman looked at Mo En, telling the story of his family; the boy’s eyes held hope—he clearly hoped Mo En could find a solution.
Elfman couldn’t think of a way. Neither could Lisanna.
While wandering outside, they’d both heard their sister Mirajane stifling sobs at night; they both knew her emotions were in torment, and it worried and pained them deeply.
If someone could find a way to bring her back, he’d be eternally grateful—even if it meant doing anything!
“So that’s how it is.”
Hearing Elfman’s words, Mo En narrowed his eyes—he’d grasped a key point, a breakthrough!
The current Mirajane wasn’t the real her—she was a girl tormented by guilt within.
The object of Mirajane’s guilt was Lisanna and Elfman; her hatred for the “demon power” stemmed from Lisanna and Elfman.
The three siblings had grown up together, relying on each other—only Lisanna and Elfman could make Mirajane change like this; she didn’t care much about others’ opinions.
She hated her own recklessness—for trying to destroy the demon, she’d accidentally gained this “demon power.”
She hated this “demon power,” because it caused Lisanna and Elfman to be hated along with her.
She believed it was all her fault—her selfishness had changed everything, stealing from her brother and sister the hard but peaceful life they once had.
“Is that… really how it is?!”
Hearing Mo En’s analysis, Elfman was stunned; then, after thinking it over, it made sense—given his sister’s nature, she very likely thought exactly this.
“But Lisanna and I don’t blame Mirajane at all!”
Elfman grew anxious, standing up immediately—he wanted to go explain clearly to his sister; they’d grown up together, relying on each other—he and Lisanna didn’t care whether others liked them or not; as long as the family was together, that was enough.
Even if they wandered together, slept under the open sky, ate whatever they could find—they never felt hardship, never blamed Mirajane.
“Itachi two do need to do something.”
Mo En nodded; the root cause was found—now they just needed the right remedy.
To untie a knot, Itachi must use the same rope that tied it—this problem could only be solved by Elfman and Lisanna.
“I’ll go find Mirajane right now and explain everything!”
Hearing this, Elfman hurried to leave.
But Mo En stopped him—he felt words alone were too weak to truly shake Mirajane’s mind.
To ensure the mission succeeded, Mo En believed he needed a decisive blow—one chance, one success.
“Are Itachi willing to learn Takeover Magic?”
After thinking for a moment, Mo En asked Elfman.
“Huh? I am!”
Elfman paused for a second, then answered immediately—he wasn’t stupid; he instantly understood Mo En’s plan.
If he learned Takeover Magic, and Lisanna learned it too, Mirajane wouldn’t feel it was only because of her own uniqueness that they’d been forced onto the streets.
If both he and Lisanna learned Takeover Magic—and even liked it—it might help Mirajane stop rejecting it.
“It’s a viable plan, but it depends on whether Itachi and Lisanna have the talent.”
Mo En was quite satisfied with this approach—it would strike Mirajane hard, but whether it could be realized remained to be seen.
