Chapter 139: Damn Schemers
Bzz—
The blaring alarm echoing throughout the entire camp instantly snapped the furious Hunter back to his senses. The two men then exchanged a glance, their eyes filled with solemn gravity.
They had never heard this specific alarm before. Even on the day the Thunder Beasts attacked, the camp's alarm had not sounded like this.
The Smart Terminal vibrated. Li Yu's expression changed as Claptrap delivered the incoming report.
"The B-Tier Lifeform has suddenly appeared!"
"What!?" Hunter's face darkened. "According to Molcasar's projections, shouldn't we still have a few days?"
"I do not know." Li Yu shook his head. The situation was so urgent that Mole had no time to notify them personally, only managing to send a quick message.
Inside the command center, Mole roared furiously, "What is going on? Didn't we have three more days? Why did it suddenly appear? What are you all even doing!?"
Several sensory operators exchanged fearful glances. According to the grapevine, several councilors had inexplicably vanished, and rumors claimed that Archon Mole was behind it.
Kansa hurriedly arrived with the Ship Breakers squad. The two leaders, each harboring schemes, exchanged a glance and reached a tacit understanding to focus entirely on the immediate trouble.
This B-Tier Lifeform had to be dealt with first!
"Does Your Excellency Mole have any intelligence on this lifeform?" Kansa inquired, his fists clenching subconsciously.
Mobilizing the fleet required time. Most importantly, he needed an inconspicuous excuse to justify bringing the Cruiser Fleet here.
As a middle-tier Prince within the Amethyst Imperial Family, his influence could not compare to that of his older brothers.
According to his plan, once the Cruiser Fleet arrived, they would take over all of Molcasar. Anyone who stood in their way would die. What did a B-Tier Lifeform matter? Could it survive a synchronized volley from the main battle fleet of the Amethyst Civilization?
But plans could never outpace changing circumstances. The sudden appearance of the B-Tier Lifeform forced them to focus on the present.
Otherwise, if a descendant of an Amethyst Beast—and a B-Tier Lifeform at that—managed to obtain the Amethyst Core, the consequences would be unimaginable.
Kansa's expression shifted slightly, as if he had just pictured something truly horrifying.
"We only have a rough profile." Mole casually handed over a few documents. Kansa did not even glance at them, passing them straight to Yu Jin; after all, he was not a combatant.
Yu Jin glanced down at the documents, his face turning incredibly foul. He looked up, staring intently at Mole. "Are you sure there is no mistake here?"
Mole frowned, a hint of dissatisfaction in his voice. "Although our sensory equipment is rather outdated, the margin of error will not exceed five percent."
Yu Jin slammed the documents down. "A B-Tier Lifeform standing five hundred meters tall would require at least five B-Tier Lifeforms to handle! What exactly are we supposed to fight it with?"
Much like the Thunder Beasts, the sheer size of this B-Tier Lifeform was astonishing. A height of five hundred meters—even with a five percent margin of error—was a terrifying figure.
The reason Cosmic Colossuses were so fearsome was entirely due to their size. Spanning thousands of kilometers in length, their mere presence was enough to instill absolute terror in anyone who beheld them.
"Is there actually a creature that instills fear in Your Excellency Yu Jin?" Li Yu walked into the command center, bending down to pick up the discarded documents and skimming over them.
Yu Jin did not even spare him a glance. When not in a furious state, he felt that speaking even a single extra word to this arrogant fool was an insult to himself.
"Is Your Excellency God Slayer feeling particularly confident? Why don't you take the vanguard?" Behind Yu Jin, the tall and imposing Kemo sneered mockingly.
Li Yu shook his head. "I wouldn't dare. After all, it's a lifeform that even terrifies Your Excellency Yu Jin."
Kemo instantly scoffed, "If you don't have the guts, then be a good boy and hide in the back."
Li Yu smiled. "No problem, I will hide right behind you all. I certainly hope you can protect me well."
He then added with a sigh of admiration, "You guys are truly good people."
"Your Excellency Mole, are you actually relying on this person to help you?" Yu Jin looked at Mole, a cold sneer playing on his lips. "It seems Molcasar truly has no one capable left to use."
"Don't I still have you?" Mole shot back with a lukewarm tone.
"You...!" Someone behind Yu Jin bristled with dissatisfaction and was about to snap back, but Kansa interrupted them. "Enough! The top priority right now is dealing with this B-Tier Lifeform!"
Yu Jin's expression shifted slightly, and he swept a cold glare over Kansa. Meeting his gaze head-on, Kansa pressed, "Tell me what you are thinking."
Kansa did not want to help Molcasar either, and right now, they were not helping Molcasar at all—they were protecting the Amethyst Core.
Although the two goals seemed to overlap, they were fundamentally different.
"The spaceship has miniature Nuclear Blast Bombs that can be used as traps. We also have Wither Nerve Gas, which can weaken its strength, Dawn sentry cannons, and... Mastana."
Yu Jin revealed a sinister smile as he watched Mole's face gradually darken. "However, these weapons will cause severe damage to the ecological environment. But faced with such a formidable enemy, I am sure Your Excellency Mole won't mind, right?"
Mole's face grew so dark it looked like it could drip water. Nuclear Blast Bombs would leave behind intense radiation. Unless they were clean, pollution-free Nuclear Blast Bombs, but those variants were astronomically expensive—there was no way Yu Jin would waste them here.
If the Nerve Gas spread into the natural environment, it would cause catastrophic devastation. It could only be safely deployed in artificial ecological biomes where the air could be recycled and purified.
When deployed on a planetary scale, its damage to the ecosystem far outweighed its lethality to the target lifeform itself.
And Mastana needed no introduction. It was an infamous area-of-effect meteorological weapon capable of conjuring torrential, highly corrosive acid rain. Its destructiveness to the environment was nothing short of apocalyptic.
Kansa immediately laughed. "Why would Your Excellency Mole care? If we fail to stop this B-Tier Lifeform, all hope is lost anyway. Why would he worry about ecological damage at a time like this?"
These words abruptly awakened Mole to reality. He cast a deep, intense stare at Yu Jin and declared coldly, "Of course... I do not mind."
"Excellent. Kemo, Shadow Kill, Sals—go set it up."
Yu Jin issued the order. Time was running out. In less than an hour, perhaps even shorter, that B-Tier Lifeform would breach the Surface.
Weapon after weapon was deployed in a highly organized manner. The entire Molcasar Camp sprang into frantic motion.
The leaders gathered at the edge of the camp, their faces grim as they stared out toward the projected breach point of the B-Tier Lifeform in the distance.
As the minutes and seconds ticked by, everyone felt a violent tremor. It was the quaking of the earth itself, far more intense than any previous attack they had faced.
Rumble!
The ensuing explosion made the tremors even more violent. Blinding white light saturated the sky and earth. Everyone quickly donned their Armor to brace for the incoming shockwave of the blast.
A mushroom cloud of fire and smoke billowed upward. The residual shockwave was so powerful that it nearly sent several soldiers flying.
In truth, an attack of this magnitude was more than enough to instantly kill a standard B-Tier Lifeform. However, unfortunately for them, this particular B-Tier Lifeform was unfathomably colossal.
Only after a long time did the smoke and dust gradually dissipate, allowing the crowd to faintly hear a miserable, agonized howl. It was sharp and piercing, forcing everyone to instinctively wince.
Hiss!
A brownish-yellow mist slowly began to diffuse through the area. Nerve Gas was lethal to all biological organisms, but since air filtration systems were a standard feature in the soldiers' Armor, a few drifting wisps posed no threat to them.
The vicinity was completely dominated by steel fortresses, devoid of any plant life—save for a single potted flower, nurtured by some unknown soldier, blooming in solitary defiance.
A single wisp of the brownish-yellow mist drifted over it. The potted flower instantly withered at a visible rate, draining of all its vitality in the blink of an eye.
The agonizing wails continued to echo. A flare shot howling into the sky, exploding into a dazzling burst of sparks. At that very moment, Mole took a deep breath.
The targeted area rapidly underwent a terrifying transformation. Droplets of putrid yellow liquid began condensing in the air, plummeting down at high speed. As they struck the earth, they emitted loud sizzling sounds, instantly kicking up thick plumes of white smoke.
On the outskirts of the camp, a towering, forty-meter-tall silver mechanical structure unfurled. Its massive barrel extended forward while four Mechanical Arms anchored themselves deeply into the ground, and layers of Energy Conduits lit up in rapid succession.
The silver-white Energy Cannon blasted mercilessly into the dense fog. The agonized wailing gradually grew fainter, yet stubbornly persisted.
Before this B-Tier Lifeform had even laid eyes on its enemies, it had already been subjected to a ruthless, backstabbing combo of attacks.
