Chapter 71: The Plan Changes

~8 min read 1,461 words

After more than ten minutes, Chen Sao, carrying luggage and holding Lin Yue's hand, arrived in front of Jiang Cheng.

"Jiang Cheng, can we really go to the Outer City District and stay for a while?"

Lin Yue asked anxiously.

The depths of her eyes were full of anticipation.

She had also heard many friends talk about the sights of the Outer City District, especially a friend who had been there, who had become an object of envy and admiration for several people.

However, she also knew that in her whole life, she might never have a chance to go in and see it.

Now, however, there was this opportunity, to stay for more than ten days.

On top of that, the outside was getting more chaotic during this time, and she was very frightened, so she naturally couldn't have wanted it more.

Of course.

Jiang Cheng smiled at her, "Isn't that exactly why I'm preparing to take you over there?"

"Chen Sao, have you packed everything?"

"Mm, everything's packed."

Chen Sao nodded, looking at the two large suitcases.

"Alright, during this time, please take care of Grandma for me, Chen Sao."

"Huh? Didn't you say you'd go with us?" Chen Sao showed a surprised expression.

Old Man also tugged Jiang Cheng's clothes, "Xiao Cheng, wouldn't it be better if you went with us?"

"If I go, what about next month's membership fee? I can't gather that money, and when the Iron Fist Gang shows up, I'd have to pay the management fee again, plus the house needs someone to watch it, doesn't it? We're not at home; if we return after a while, what if everything in the house gets stolen?"

The others fell silent at those words; indeed, that makes sense.

Jiang Cheng smiled again and reassured, "Grandma, Chen Sao, don't worry. I have a High-level Membership Card from the Martial Arts Hall; even if I encounter those people, they wouldn't dare do anything to me. In a moment I'll take you to the place you'll stay in the Outer City District, and after you settle in, I'll return."

It wasn't that he didn't trust Bai Wei, but his worry for his family.

"Alright, then you alone, you must stay safe, understand?" Chen Sao, a bit reassured, reminded him.

"Don't worry. Alright, let's get ready to set off."

Jiang Cheng took a deep breath.

With his family safe, he had no worries left.

It wasn't just those few people on the street during the day, including Jiang Xiong and his thugs, who had originally planned to wait for the Wild Wolf Gang to leave before settling scores with them.

But now, he has already offended the Wild Wolf Gang, and they are very likely to strike at him.

Since that's the case, why continue to endure and retreat? One word: just go for it! Lock the door, Jiang Cheng escorted his family toward the Martial Arts Hall.

Along the way, indeed some hostile glances were cast at the group.

Most of the gazes fell on Chen Sao and Lin Yue.

But it was still broad daylight, and with Jiang Cheng beside them, they arrived safely at the Martial Arts Hall.

After letting the family wait on the first floor for a moment, Bai Wei came down.

The Old Man, Chen Sao, and Lin Yue, upon seeing her approach, involuntarily widened their eyes.

Because this woman before them, in looks, figure, and temperament, was incomparable to ordinary people.

"Everyone's here?"

Bai Wei glanced at the three, then smiled at Jiang Cheng.

She had originally expected there would be men, but they were all women; Jiang Cheng is a man, yet he had no intention of moving there, so she had no objections.

"This is my Grandma, this is Chen Sao, and this is my younger sister, Lin Yue."

Jiang Cheng gave a brief introduction.

"Well, no time to waste, let's set off, follow me."

Bai Wei nodded and led the group to the backyard.

There were quite a few cars parked inside.

Lin Yue's eyes widened instantly.

Chen Sao became even more cautious, gripping the Old Man's hand tightly.

The group arrived at a red sedan.

"Put the luggage over here."

Bai Wei opened the trunk and smiled at the restrained three.

"Let me."

Jiang Cheng took the luggage from Chen Sao's hands and placed them one by one into the trunk.

Out of the corner of his eye, he noticed the license plate, a string of numbers starting with D.

He quickly guessed what the D meant.

"It'll take about half an hour to Dongfang City; if you get tired, you can sleep in the car."

"We're not sleepy, not sleepy." Chen Sao hurriedly said.

"Hehe."

Bai Wei smiled, said nothing more, and took the driver's seat first.

Jiang Cheng could see that, not to mention Grandma, even Chen Sao and Lin Yue had hardly ever handled a sedan, at most having only seen pictures, so he slowly guided the three to sit in the car and close the doors. After doing that, he took the passenger seat and said gratefully, "Bai Wei, thank you for the trouble."

"No need to say that, we agreed, didn't we?"

Bai Wei said as she turned the steering wheel, slowly driving the car out of the courtyard, along the long street at the gate.

Pedestrians on the roadside, seeing this, stopped to watch, their faces showing admiration.

Ordinary people from the Poor District could never afford a sedan; only those from the city proper could afford it.

Lin Yue's small face was full of excitement as she looked out through the car window.

So this is what it feels like to ride in a sedan? One sits here while the scenery outside the window rushes backward.

Chen Sao also wore a stunned expression.

But whether it was her or Lin Yue, neither dared to make the slightest sound.

Jiang Cheng also remained silent; on the one hand, he didn't know what to say to Bai Wei, and on the other, he feared speaking too much might betray something to Chen Sao, who sat in the back seat.

The view outside the window was still the same: the streets were not particularly wide, houses lined both sides, and farther away were mud‑brick dwellings, their occupants plainly dressed, faces tinged with vegetable stains, all stopping to watch.

After an indeterminate amount of time, the houses on both sides vanished, replaced by open plains, with a road stretching into the distance.

There, a massive cluster of buildings could be seen faintly.

"That's Dongfang City,"

Bai Wei said.

The few people in the car all looked that way simultaneously.

As the distance closed, more and more cars appeared on both sides.

Even aircraft could be seen, whooshing past from the sky.

Even Jiang Cheng widened his eyes.

"The first time I saw that thing, I had the same expression,"

Bai Wei smiled.

"Is this thing expensive?"

Jiang Cheng asked.

"Not only expensive, but it also requires qualification,"

Bai Wei shrugged.

Jiang Cheng understood.

Probably only a certain select group can operate that thing.

Ahead, a wall over ten meters tall rose, extending to both sides; behind the wall were a few tall buildings, not many in number.

Further away, there seemed to be another high wall, taller than any building outside, obscuring what lay within.

Small black specks occasionally flew out of or into it.

"That's the inner city,"

Bai Wei's gaze grew complex as she said, "It's the upper level, where the Jiao Tribe people reside."

Jiang Cheng nodded.

Jiao Tribe people, huh.

They live within the inner city.

At the outer wall, there were many entrances, with numerous people and vehicles waiting to enter the city.

Guards dressed in black uniforms, wielding Firearm, conducted inspections.

Seeing that it was their turn.

The three people in the back seat immediately grew nervous.

Jiang Cheng also tightened his seatbelt.

"No need to be nervous; although you lack identification, my guarantee will get you in. Conversely, if you cause trouble in the city, I will bear the responsibility,"

Bai Wei explained.

"We won't cause any trouble," Chen Sao hurriedly said.

"I know."

Bai Wei glanced at the few through the rearview mirror above, and gave a faint smile.

Sure enough, after the guards arrived, they checked Bai Wei's documents, then asked for the names of Jiang Cheng and his companions, recorded their fingerprints, warned them, and then let them pass.

"Thank you."

Jiang Cheng thanked again.

After all, acting as a guarantor carries risk.

"It's nothing, Nuo, this is Outer City."

Bai Wei pursed her lips toward the front.
