Chapter 12: Initial Completion

~7 min read 1,243 words

Looking at Zhang Xiaofan pointing the gun at him, the Black Cat’s face twisted into a mad sneer: “Come on, kill me. Kill me already.”

After all he’d done, he’d be executed anyway once captured; better to be killed by Zhang Xiaofan than shot like a dead dog.

Hearing the Black Cat’s relentless taunts, Zhang Xiaofan frowned and fired a shot into his thigh.

“Ahh!”

The Black Cat clutched his thigh, screaming in agony—alive, he could be interrogated for many secrets, but to prevent any chance of counterattack,

he had to shoot his knees. Watching the Black Cat writhe in pain, Zhang Xiaofan didn’t stop—he believed the Black Cat still had fight left.

Zhang Xiaofan fired another shot at the Black Cat’s other thigh; the excruciating pain sent him straight into unconsciousness.

Seeing the Black Cat pass out, Zhang Xiaofan didn’t know if it was fake or real.

But to find out, he only needed to test him—and the test was simple.

He fired another shot into the Black Cat’s arm. Even unconscious, the pain jolted him into a howl.

Zhang Xiaofan sneered—he was faking. If he were truly unconscious, he wouldn’t have reacted.

Seeing Zhang Xiaofan’s sneer and feeling the unbearable pain all over his body, the Black Cat raised his one remaining movable finger and pointed it at Zhang Xiaofan.

“Oh? Still got some movement left?”

Zhang Xiaofan mocked him, then fired a shot into the Black Cat’s last functional arm.

Under Zhang Chu’an’s torture, the Black Cat finally passed out completely.

At that moment, Nie Huaishang and the others arrived. Seeing the unconscious Black Cat and his injuries, they all turned to stare at Zhang Xiaofan.

Zhang Xiaofan sighed: “He tried to go for a kill with me. I wanted to capture him alive, so I had no choice. My skills aren’t great.”

Nie Huaishang and the others didn’t believe him, but they quickly loaded the Black Cat into the vehicle and rushed him to the military hospital.

At the same time, Nie Huaishang asked in the group chat:

Nie Huaishang: “Zhang Xiaofan, why did you go this hard today? One shot each in all four limbs. Don’t tell me your skills are bad—I know your skills better than anyone. Taking down the Black Cat was no challenge.”

Zhang Xiaofan: “How to put it… I suddenly remembered the scene where Xiao Zhuang accidentally killed Xiao Ying. Xiao Zhuang was broken for ten years because of it.”

“It started when Ma Yunfei self-mutilated his arm; Xiao Ying went to treat him and got taken hostage. Then came this whole ridiculous chain of events.”

“Xiao Zhuang and Xiao Ying are my childhood friends. To prevent something like that from happening, I’ll just cripple Ma Yunfei’s limbs right away.”

“But my technique isn’t refined yet. I’ve been practicing on terrorists lately.”

At that moment, Ma Yunfei, directing the drug production in Yuanshan Town, felt his right eyelid twitch violently—a cold chill swept over his entire body.

“It’s scorching hot outside. Why am I feeling cold?”

Ma Yunfei didn’t dwell on it and continued directing the drug production.

Guo Jing: “From what you’ve said, the Black Cat shouldn’t be much of a threat anymore, right?”

Zhang Chu’an: “A threat? Zhang Xiaofan shot his elbows and kneecaps. Unless something miraculous happens, the hospital is already preparing to amputate.”

Nie Huaishang: “In the K2 Organization, where profit rules and strength is king, who would care about a killer with no limbs?”

Guo Jing: “Then our first mission is essentially complete.”

Nie Huaishang: “If he can still cause trouble after this, I’ll have to say I’m impressed.”

Not only would rescuing the Black Cat from the military’s encirclement be nearly impossible, but if they did manage it, they’d need massive manpower and expose many embedded moles.

But what would they gain by going through all that trouble to rescue him? A helpless cripple who needs others to feed and bathe him?

K2 would probably just eliminate him anyway. More importantly, now that the Black Cat is captured, Zhang Haiyan has nothing left to fear.

He’s already revealed everything he knew. With K2’s secrets exposed, the entire Chinese high command is enraged.

Too brazen. This organization produced chemical weapons on Chinese soil for terrorist attacks. If they succeeded, the consequences would be unimaginable.

Now K2 is barely holding itself together—how could they possibly rescue the Black Cat?

In the hospital, the Black Cat had awakened. Recalling what happened before he passed out, he knew that even if he lived, he was finished.

Feeling the changes in his body, there was no doubt—he’d been amputated in all four limbs.

When he saw Dog Head Gao, his expression turned complex: “I never thought your military would collaborate with a killer organization.”

So young, yet so ruthless—only a killer trained from childhood by a killer organization could act like this.

Dog Head Gao was confused. Killer? Was he talking about Guo Jing and Zhang Xiaofan?

But Dog Head Gao didn’t explain. Instead, he went along with the Black Cat’s words: “Correct. The enemy of my enemy is my friend. They want you dead just like I do.”

“As for who they are—I’m sorry, I can’t tell you.”

Hearing Dog Head Gao’s words, the Black Cat gave a bitter laugh: “Forget it. I’m like this now. What difference does it make if I know? How could I even seek revenge? Who would avenge me?”

“Don’t bother trying to extract K2’s secrets from me—it’s useless. I think you’d be better off just executing me.”

After hearing the Black Cat’s words, Dog Head Gao turned and walked out without looking back.

Seeing Dog Head Gao emerge, the four rushed forward: “Uncle Gao, how is he? Did you get anything out of him?”

“His body is still too weak for intense interrogation. But judging by his willpower, I doubt we’ll get anything out of him.”

Dog Head Gao sighed.

“Still, we have to try. Who knows? Maybe we’ll get lucky.”

Nie Huaishang comforted him.

“Alright, you four performed exceptionally well this time. I’ll recommend you for commendations to headquarters. This will help your promotions when you join the military.”

Dog Head Gao said with satisfaction. These four had played an indispensable role in capturing the Black Cat.

Nie Huaishang first eliminated the Black Cat’s mole in Donghai, then used Zhang Haiyan as bait to trap him.

Guo Jing was impressive too—one against five, killed three, forcing the Black Cat to retreat. Even I couldn’t have done better.

These four are all excellent prospects.

Of course, when Dog Head Gao saw their loads of bags and packages, he was baffled:

“Why do you have so much stuff?”

“Uncle Gao, we came all the way to Donghai. Don’t we need to bring something back for our parents and friends?”

Zhang Chu’an said excitedly.

“These things aren’t cheap. You didn’t have this much money, did you?”

All these bags together probably cost over two hundred thousand.

“Uncle Gao, we risked our lives for this internship—no salary, no benefits. At least you should cover our food, lodging, and travel. Don’t worry, the company will reimburse us.”

Zhang Chu’an said excitedly.

Dog Head Gao suddenly understood—you didn’t just come here for the mission. You came to feast on the company’s dime.

“Alright, that’s enough for now. But once you join the military, you can’t act like this again. Understood?”

Dog Head Gao asked sternly.

“Understood.”

The four answered in unison.
