Chapter 13: Interrogation
The four of them hadn’t joined the unit and weren’t their superiors or subordinates, so Old Gao could only give them ideological education.
But this kind of trend must be eradicated.
After all, taking not even a needle or thread from the masses was military law; using mission excuses to feast on wealthy households was utterly unacceptable.
On the other side, Zhang Haiyan stared at the 900,000-yuan reimbursement form, glanced at the secretary beside her, and asked in disbelief: “This is their spending over two months?”
Yes, I cover their food, clothing, housing, and travel—but how did you spend over 900,000? You’re feasting on wealthy households; I should’ve just paid them salaries directly.
But she was a billionaire and didn’t mind this amount; she treated it as paying to avoid disaster.
At a five-star hotel in the East Sea, Guo Jing and the others devoured the food on the table like a storm.
Today was undoubtedly worth celebrating: first, the task left by the Master God had been preliminarily completed.
All four except Zhang Chu’an raised their glasses; Zhang Chu’an didn’t drink because after watching One Against Thousands, he had sworn off alcohol entirely, fearing he might repeat the disgrace he suffered at Longhu Mountain.
Nie Huaishang set down his glass and asked Guo Jing and the others: “Do you think Black Cat will reveal K2’s secrets?”
The four fell into thought: Black Cat was already broken, but K2 still existed—if they could extract the secrets of this century-old organization from him and wipe it out entirely, that would be ideal.
“It’s unlikely. Though he’s no good man, he’s extremely resolute; I doubt we’ll get anything out of him.”
Zhang Xiaofan stated firmly: I had a gun pressed to his head, and he still tried to kill me; even after I shot him four times, he didn’t utter a single word of surrender—Black Cat is a hardened man.
“Not necessarily.”
Nie Huaishang said confidently.
“Why?”
Guo Jing asked.
Such a resolute man is hard to break through interrogation; precisely because he’s so resolute, illusions won’t work on him.
“K2 will undoubtedly abandon Black Cat—he has no value left—but is he truly without any ties beyond K2?”
Nie Huaishang mused.
“You mean Zhang Haiyan and Ye Cunxin are his weak points—but will Black Cat betray K2 for them?”
Guo Jing asked doubtfully.
“Just try.”
Nie Huaishang said indifferently.
The other three nodded in agreement with Nie Huaishang’s plan.
The group went to the police station; upon arriving, they saw Old Gao walking out looking dejected.
“What’s wrong, Uncle Gao? Has Black Cat refused to reveal any intelligence?”
Nie Huaishang asked curiously.
“That’s right. No matter what methods we’ve used, we couldn’t get a word out of him.”
Old Gao said regretfully.
“By the way, Uncle Gao, you told me Black Cat thinks we four are assassins from a terrorist organization, right?”
Nie Huaishang confirmed again.
“Because you’re so young, your marksmanship is precise and your actions decisive—very similar to the assassins their organization cultivates from childhood.”
Old Gao confirmed.
“Uncle Gao, let me go question him as a terrorist assassin.”
Nie Huaishang suggested.
“Alright, give it a try—you’re reliable.”
After agreeing, Old Gao spoke to the officers inside and let Nie Huaishang and the others enter the interrogation room.
Seeing Nie Huaishang and the others enter, Black Cat’s face showed surprise:
“You’ve got guts—assassins daring to walk openly into a police station.”
“Senior Black Cat, the martial world isn’t about fighting and killing—it’s about human relationships. You have a billionaire wife; why can’t we have a powerful friend?”
Nie Huaishang spoke respectfully to the crippled Black Cat.
“You’re here for K2’s secrets, aren’t you?”
Black Cat sneered.
“Everything I am today is thanks to you—I’d never give you any intelligence.”
Hearing this, Nie Huaishang didn’t get angry; instead, he said politely: “Senior Black Cat, after this incident, your organization’s actions have been exposed.”
“K2’s actions have crossed everyone’s bottom line; it will inevitably face a coalition of forces hunting it down—its destruction is only a matter of time.”
“Then I still won’t tell you.”
Black Cat sneered coldly.
Nie Huaishang asked coldly: “Senior Black Cat, do you know how we differ from the people outside?”
Before Black Cat could answer, Nie Huaishang gave the answer himself: “They have moral boundaries; we don’t.”
“What are you going to do?”
Black Cat trembled.
In response to Black Cat’s question, Nie Huaishang said something unrelated: “Do you know, Senior Black Cat, I particularly admire a quote from Genghis Khan?”
At that moment, Nie Huaishang’s eyes and tone were filled with fanaticism: “The greatest joy in life is defeating enemies, chasing them down, seizing their possessions, seeing their dearest weep in despair, riding their horses, and taking their wives and daughters.”
“Since I was a child, I’ve regarded you as my greatest enemy. Now I’ve finally defeated you. Since I can’t have your wealth or possessions, I’ll have to target your wife and daughter.”
“I must say, Senior Black Cat, your wife and daughter are very beautiful—I thank all our organization’s special forces on your behalf.”
After hearing Nie Huaishang, Black Cat’s eyes bulged with rage as he screamed curses at him; Zhang Xiaofan stepped forward to slap him.
Nie Huaishang quickly stopped Zhang Xiaofan and urged:
“We’re about to make Senior Black Cat wear a green hat. He’ll have many green hats every day—can’t we let him curse us a little?”
Hearing this, Black Cat, furious, tried to lunge at them; Nie Huaishang watched like a spectator, calmly sipping his tea.
“Senior Black Cat, have you decided yet? If not, think it over carefully—we’ll go visit your wife and daughter first.”
As Nie Huaishang turned to leave, a roar stopped him: “Come back!”
Black Cat clenched his teeth and, summoning all his strength, said: “I’ll talk.”
After this, K2 would suffer a devastating blow. He had few things he cared about in life: K2 was one, Zhang Haiyan was another, and his unseen daughter Ye Cunxin counted too.
K2 had little chance of surviving the coalition’s crackdown—this attachment was gone.
He was an assassin himself; the moment he imagined the same twisted, cruel methods being inflicted on his wife and daughter, he called out to Nie Huaishang and the others who were leaving.
Seeing Black Cat’s attitude, Nie Huaishang was pleased; Black Cat offered no tricks and honestly revealed everything he knew, fearing these men would harm his wife and daughter.
Nie Huaishang walked out of the interrogation room to find Old Gao staring at him with a complex expression.
He finally understood why Black Cat had mistaken them for terrorist assassins.
This Black Cat, a leader of a terrorist organization, was intimidated by a few greenhorns.
I wonder what expression Black Cat would wear if he learned the truth?
